In general, in order to obtain position information from satellite images, satellite sensor model which represents the geometric relationship between sensor and targeted area should be established in the first place. However, it is not simple for modelling pushbroom satellite sensor due to the image capturing process. In recent development of new generation imaging sensors, a generic sensor model, which is applicable to all types of sensors such as frame, pushbroom, whiskbroom, and SAR is in great need to the remote sensing and photogrammetry community. In this paper, the RFM as sensor model was implemented with KOMPSAT EOC and SPOT satellite images and analyzed in cases where the number and distribution of ground control points were varied. The test results of RFM were presented and compared with those of Direct Linear Transformation(DLT).

This study proposes a classification method based on an automated training extraction procedure that may be used with very high resolution (VHR) images of non-accessible areas. The proposed method overcomes the problem of scale difference between VHR images and geographic information system (GIS) data through filtering and use of a Landsat image. In order to automate maximum likelihood classification (MLC), GIS data were used as an input to the MLC of a Landsat image, and a binary edge and a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) were used to increase the purity of the training samples. We identified the thresholds of an NDVI and binary edge appropriate to obtain pure samples of each class. The proposed method was then applied to QuickBird and SPOT-5 images. In order to validate the method, visual interpretation and quantitative assessment of the results were compared with products of a manual method. The results showed that the proposed method could classify VHR images and efficiently update GIS data.
The satellite sensor model is typically established using ground control points acquired by ground survey Of existing topographic maps. In some cases where the targeted area can't be accessed and the topographic maps are not available, it is difficult to obtain ground control points so that geospatial information could not be obtained from satellite image. The paper presents several satellite sensor models and satellite image decomposition methods for non-accessible area where ground control points can hardly acquired in conventional ways. First, 10 different satellite sensor models, which were extended from collinearity condition equations, were developed and then the behavior of each sensor model was investigated. Secondly, satellite images were decomposed and also pseudo images were generated. The satellite sensor model extended from collinearity equations was represented by the six exterior orientation parameters in 1$^{st}$, 2$^{nd}$ and 3$^{rd}$ order function of satellite image row. Among them, the rotational angle parameters such as $\omega$(omega) and $\phi$(phi) correlated highly with positional parameters could be assigned to constant values. For non-accessible area, satellite images were decomposed, which means that two consecutive images were combined as one image. The combined image consists of one satellite image with ground control points and the other without ground control points. In addition, a pseudo image which is an imaginary image, was prepared from one satellite image with ground control points and the other without ground control points. In other words, the pseudo image is an arbitrary image bridging two consecutive images. For the experiments, SPOT satellite images exposed to the similar area in different pass were used. Conclusively, it was found that 10 different satellite sensor models and 5 different decomposed methods delivered different levels of accuracy. Among them, the satellite camera model with 1$^{st}$ order function of image row for positional orientation parameters and rotational angle parameter of kappa, and constant rotational angle parameter omega and phi provided the best 60m maximum error at check point with pseudo images arrangement.
Urban population growth and consequent rapid urbanization involve some thermal environmental problems in the cities. Monitoring of thermal environments in urban areas such as hot spot analysis is required for effective actions to resolve these problems. This study selected 14 dongs and surrounding administrative districts of Sejong city as study areas and analyzed the characteristics of changes in surface temperature due to the urban expansion in the summer from 2013 to 2018. In the study, the surface temperature distributions in the study areas were plotted using surface temperature values from Landsat 8 and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and NDBI (Normalized Difference Built-up Index) based on KOMPSAT 2/3 data, and the patterns of surface temperature changes with urban expansion were discussed using the estimated NDVI and NDBI. In particular, the distinct urbanization in the study areas were selected for case studies, and the cause of the changes in the hot spots in the regions was analyzed using high-resolution KOMPSAT images. This study results present that hot spots appeared in urbanized regions within the study areas, and it was plotted that the lower the NDVI values and the higher the NDBI values indicate the temperature values are high. The land surface temperature and satellite-based products were used to divide the study areas into continuously urbanized regions and rapidly urbanized regions and to identify the different characteristics depending on land covers. In the regions with distinct surface temperature changes by urbanization, the analysis using high-resolution KOMPSAT images as presented in this study could provide effective information for urban planning and policy utilization in the future.

For the land-cover classification we have usually used imagery of the optical sensors only. But currently a number of the satellite with various sensors are operating and the availability of using the data acquired from them are increasing. SAR sensors, in particular, can produce additional informations on the land-cover which has not been available from optical sensors. On this study, I have applied the SAR Image to the SPOT XS image in the classification procedures, and analysed the classified results. In this procedure I have extracted texture informations from SAR intensity images, then applied both intensity and texture informations. From the accuracy analysis, overall accuracy are increased slightly when the SAR texture was applied. In case of the Built-up class the results showed higher accuracy than those of when only the SPOT XS image was used. From this result I can show that overall accuracy was increased slightly but the spatial distribution of classes was visibly improved.
Satellite images without value-added processing may be nothing but artistic painting. That is in order to benefit from satellite images acquired from money-drinking satellites, we should utilize the paramount information in scientific world and practical lift that can be extracted from image. Hence, the Satellite Technology Research Center has developed a integrated software called "Valadd-Pro". In this paper, the main components of the Valadd-Pro are briefly introduced, its value-added product are compared with PCI$^{\circledR}$ commercial software. Based on the results, the performance of the Valadd-Pro is superior to that of PCI$^{\circledR}$ on 6000$\times$6000 SPOT panchromatic images.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the hazard of landslides at Penang, Malaysia, using a Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing. Landslide locations were identified in the study area from interpretation of aerial photographs and from field surveys. Topographical and geological data and satellite images were collected, processed, and constructed into a spatial database using GIS and image processing. The factors chosen that influence landslide occurrence were: topographic slope, topographic aspect, topographic curvature and distance from drainage, all from the topographic database; lithology and distance from lineament, taken from the geologic database; land use from TM satellite images; and the vegetation index value from SPOT satellite images. Landslide hazardous area were analysed and mapped using the landslide-occurrence factors by logistic regression model. The results of the analysis were verified using the landslide location data and compared with probabilistic model. The validation results showed that the logistic regression model is better prediction accuracy than probabilistic model.
In this paper, we classify between the chromosome and blood cell, and find the location of chromosome. First, the gray level images be the binary images using the threshold method. Then, the spot noises are removed by the morphological filtering. Features are obtained using the updated Run length(RL) coding and are classified using the Bayes decision rule. The performances of classification are 83.3% in chromosome and 93.3% in blood cell. Because each sub-images ($256{\times}256$) is obtained from the full image($512{\times}512$), we realize the location of chromosome if we get the corrected chromosome classifications.
The objective of this investigation is to establish a simple yet effective block adjustment procedure for the orthorectification of multi-orbit satellite images. The major works of the proposed scheme are: (1) adjustment of satellite‘s orbit accurately, (2) calculation of the error vectors for each tie point using digital terrain model and ray tracing technique, (3) refining the orbit using the Least Squares Filtering technique and (4) generation of the orthophotos. In the process of least squares filtering, we use the residual vectors on ground control points and tie points to collocate the orbit. In orthorectification, we use the indirect method to generate the orthoimage. Test areas cover northern Taiwan. Test images are from SPOT 5 satellite. Experimental results indicate that proposed method improves the relative accuracy significantly.
Efficient multi-resolution image fusion aims to take advantage of the high spectral resolution of Landsat TM images and high spatial resolution of SPOT panchromatic images simultaneously. This paper presents a multi-resolution data fusion scheme, based on multirate image representation. Motivated by analytical results obtained from high-resolution multispectral image data analysis: the energy packing the spectral features are distributed in the lower frequency bands, and the spatial features, edges, are distributed in the higher frequency bands. This allows to spatially enhancing the multispectral images, by adding the high-resolution spatial features to them, by a multirate filtering procedure. The proposed method is compared with some conventional methods. Results show it preserves more spectral features with less spatial distortion.
