  • This study aims to grasp the influence of a college student's academic emotions and the ability of interpersonal relations according to gender on the SNS addiction tendency. Data were collected through a self-reported structured questionnaire from 130 college students using convenient sampling methods from September 1 to October 31, 2015. The research result showed that in the case of male college students, only the ability of interpersonal relations (${\beta}=-.41$, p=.009) was understood as a variable with an influence on the SNS addiction tendency, having approximately 16% power of explanation (F=2.26, p=.049) after controlling for age, daily average duration of using SNS, subjectively-perceived level of dependence on SNS, and one's own level of using SNS. In the case of female college students, it was understood that the daily average duration of using SNS (${\beta}=.42$, p<.001) and positive academic emotions(${\beta}=.27$, p=.010) were variables having an influence on the SNS addiction tendency, having approximately 28% power of explanation (F=5.19, p<.001). Accordingly, to solve the psycho-social health problems related to male and female students' SNS addiction based on this research, it might be helpful for planning a program by taking into account the differences between the related variables according to gender.

  • The current study analyzes the usage of social network services(SNS) according to one's collectivistic and individualistic tendency and the relationship with addiction. Additionally, the study attempted to controll intrapersonal variables such as gender, personalitly, and age, which affect SNS the usage. Also, Collectivistic-individualistic tendency in SNS and offline environment may not correspond to one another. Therefore, the study measured the collectivistic-individualistic tendency regarding of the two environment separately. For this purpose, we designed a new measurement scale to measure collectivistic-individualistic tendencies in for the SNS by involving a kin vs nonkin context. The sample consisted of 253 adolescents ranging from 13 to 15 years old and 246 adults ranging from 18 to 25 years old, which sums up to 499 samples in total. Results indicated that individualistic tendency within SNS showed a positive relationship with the amount of SNS usage and SNS addiction. Furthermore, female users spent more time on SNS and showed a higher level addiction than males. While adults had longer experience with SNS and spent more time on it daily than adolescents, they did not show a significant difference in regards to SNS addiction. The correlation analysis indicated that collectivistic-individualistic tendencies in SNS were weakly correlated to that of offline environments. The kin individualistic tendency in SNS significantly predicted SNS addiction after controlling for the effect of age, personality, gender, and offline collectivistic-individualistic tendency. Taken together, these findings indicate the need for an appropriate collectivistic-individualist tendency scale that correspond to the SNS context. The results also suggest that kin individualistic tendency in the SNS environment can be the main factor for SNS addiction.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of the SNS usage time depending on SNS motive of the youth workers. Although previous studies revealed that there are many motivations for SNS usage, it is not known which factors determine usage time of each SNS motive. In this study, we constructed the unbalanced panel data of the Korean Education & Employment Panel data. Among three different SNS motives such as information exchange, social networking, and fun pursuit, gender, physical health, extraversion, and conscientiousness affected the usage of SNS when the motivation was information exchange. When it was personal connection, the size of organization, education, physical health, subjective happiness, job satisfaction, neuroticism, and agreeableness did. When it was fun & interest, foreign company, status of children, subjective happiness, and job satisfaction did. Based on the findings, we discussed theoretical and practical implications.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between demographic characteristics, self - esteem, and attachment instability (attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance) in the college students' SNS addiction tendency. To investigate the influencing factors on SNS addiction tendency of college students, we surveyed 330 college students at universities in the metropolitan area through offline and online questionnaires, and analyzed 271 valid ones. Frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, variance analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, 87.4% of college students used SNS, and the most used SNS was 'Facebook (82.3%)'. The most frequent use of SNS per day was 'over 1 hour ~ less than 2 hours (24.7%)'. Second, women had a significantly higher SNS addiction tendency than men. Third, self-esteem and SNS addiction tendency showed significant negative correlation. Fourth, attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance were positively correlated with SNS addiction tendency. Fifth, the self-esteem of college students affects negatively on the SNS addiction tendency and only the attachment anxiety among attachment instability affects the addiction tendency. Finally, we discussed the risk of SNS addiction according to the characteristics of university students.

  • The present study sought to identify the differences in levels of depression and impulsivity depending on hours on SNS among Korean adolescents. Data for this study was collected from the responses of 1,008 of middle and high school students in Seoul in 2014. The upper 33%(N=364) and the lower 33%(N=319) of students who reported to spend lots of time on SNS were extracted from the total data to constitute two groups for analysis. The sample was analyzed utilizing SEM to compare depression and impulsivity levels of the upper group with those of the lower group while controlling for gender. In conclusion, there was a significant difference in level of depression and impulsivity between the two groups. The upper group that spent more time on SNS displayed higher levels of depression and impulsivity. The result of this study means that the more time the adolescents spend on SNS the more likely the adolescents are to be depressed and impulsive.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of SNS addiction tendency, depression, and communication skill among university students. Subjects were 200 associate nursing students in Korea. The data were collected using a self-reporting questionnaire from October 11 to November 24, 2016. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, LSD test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. The levels of SNS addiction tendency were dependent on age (t=2.47, p=.044), connection SNS time (F=10.20, p<.001), and place of SNS use (t=2.54, p=.012). SNS addiction tendency was significantly correlated with depression. Higher SNS addiction was associated with higher rates of depression. SNS addiction tendency was not significantly correlated with communication skill in nursing students. Influential factors that affect SNS addiction tendency were depression (${\beta}=.265$, p<.001) and SNS usage time (${\beta}=.265$, p<.001), which explains about 15.5% of the variance. The results of this study indicate that nursing interventions are necessary to improve SNS addiction tendency, and early screening of nursing students is needed to develop health promotion programs for the vulnerable.

  • As Internet technology further develops, a social networking service (SNS) also develops. But most studies on SNS are not appropriate for business purposes since they mainly focus on personal characteristics. Unlike previous studies, however, this study tries to understand the effect of SNS on performance in the perspective of business. As the result of analysis, SNSE(Social Networking Service Engagement) appears to have positive effect on TMC(Transactive Memory Capability) and PER(Performance), and TMC also seems to affect PER. On the assumption that there should be some parameters between SNSE and PER that earlier studies did not consider, this study has proved that a new way of memories, or TMC, forms the bridge between SNS and PER. It also found out that the time spent on SNS is positively controlled when SNSE affects TMC. These results are different from those of the previous studies arguing that SNS has nothing to do with PER.
