Nitrogen removal performance of anammox process with PVA-SA gel bead crosslinked with sodium sulfate as a biomass carrier

  • In this study,the result shows that polyvinyl alcohol-sodium alginate (PVA-SA) gel bead crosslinked with sodium sulfate are better among the different methods by comparing the relative mechanical strength, mechanical strength swelling and expansion coefficient of beads in water. Subsequently, anammox biomass entrapment by PVA-SA gel was introduced into continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). After 24 operation days, the nitrogen removal efficiency achieved 60%, while the nitrogen loading rate (NLR) was $0.14kgN/m^3/d$ and the experiment data indicated that PVA-SA gel bead crosslinked with sodium sulfate can be used to initiate anammox process. Furthermore, it is an alternative for culturing anammox in a long-term operation.

SA해제 이후 GPS데이터의 교통정보수집 적용가능성 평가 (Evaluation of GPS Data Applicability to Traffic Information Collection after SA Removal)

  • GPS오차 중 하나였던 SA(Selective Availability)에 의한 오차의 제거 이후(2000년 5월 1일 기점) GPS 오차의 해제 전후의 교통정보의 신뢰성을 비교하고, GIS-GPS 교통정보수집단계에서의 수집신뢰성을 높일 수 있도록 하는 방안을 제시하는 것이 본 연구의 주요목적이다. 크게 두 가지를 다루고 있는바, 첫 번째는 GPS의 오차의 변화에 대한 것으로 GPS수신기에서 1초마다 수집된 원시데이터에 대하여 SA 해제 전과 후의 정확도를 고정점밀도를 이용하여 분석하였고 그 결과 SA 해제 후에는 도로중심선에서 20m의 범위 안에 전체 GPS 포인트의 87.23%가 포함된 반면 해제 전에는29.94%가 포함되어 SA 해제 이후 GPS데이터의 이용가능정도 및 정확도가 전체적으로 향상된 것을 알 수 있었다. 두 번째는 5분$^{1)}$동안 수집된 모든 자료에 대하여 각 링크의 참통행시간(실측통행시간)과 프로브차량의 통행시간의 차이를 산출하였다. 실측통행시간과 구간통행시간의 비교 결과 버퍼크기가 SA 해제 전(60m)보다 작은 40m에 가장 오차가 작게 산출되었다. 이는 SA 해제 이후 GPS 오차의 감소로 버퍼크기를 축소해도 산출된 구간통행 시간의 신뢰도에는 관계가 없다는 것을 보여주는 것이 된다. 하지만 SA 이외에 다른 오차는 여전히 존재하기 때문에 버퍼설계 시 GPS 오차를 완전히 무시하기는 힘든 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 구간통행시간의 오차평균을 볼 때 DGPS를 사용하지 않고 단지 GPS만 이용해도 교통정보의 획득을 위한 이용에 큰 문제가 없다고 판단되어졌다.

규산 나트륨으로부터 유기 용매 추출에 의한 고순도 규산 제조에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Preparation of High Purity Silicic Acid by Solvent Extraction from Sodium Silicate)

  • 규산 나트륨으로부터 묽은 황산으로 산성화시킨 규산 나트륨용액으로부터 유기 용매에 의한 추출로 규산[Silicic Acid(SA)]을 제조하였다. 유기 용매로 tetrahydrofuran(THF), isopropyl alcohol과 acetone을 사용하여 Si 추출율과 Na 제거율에 미치는 영향과 유기 용매의 부피비, 염화 나트륨 첨가량 및 $H_2O$ 첨가량에 따른 영향을 파악하였다. 고순도 규산을 제조하기위한 최적 조건은 유기 용매 THF, 유기 용매/규산의 부피비 1(organic solvent 10ml/10ml SA) 그리고 염화 나트륨 첨가량 2.5g/10ml SA이었고, 이 조건에서 Si 추출율 86.2%, Na 제거율 99.95%인 99.96%의 고순도 규산을 제조하였다.

Preparation of Calcium Silicate Hydrate Extrudates and Their Phosphate Adsorption Studies

  • Cylindrical shape extrudates of calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) were prepared using different percentages of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) / sodium alginate (SA) mixtures as binders and an aqueous solution containing 6% $H_3BO_3$ and 3% $CaCl_2$ was used as a cross linking agent. As the quantity of alginate increases, the phosphate removal efficiency and capacity were decreased. Among four different extrudate samples, the sample prepared by 8% PVA + 2% SA showed the highest phosphate removal efficiency (59.59%) and capacity (29.97 mg/g) at an initial phosphate concentration of 100 ppm and 2.0 g/L adsorbent dosage. Effects of the adsorbent dosage, contact time and initial phosphate concentration on the sample were further studied. The removal efficiency and capacity obtained by a 4.0 g/L adsorbent dose at an initial phosphate concentration of 100 ppm in 3 h were 79.38% and 19.96 mg/g, respectively. The experimental data of kinetic and isotherm measurements followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation and Langmuir isotherm model, respectively. These results suggested that the phosphate removal was processed via a chemisorption and a monolayer coverage of phosphate anions was on the CSH surface. The maximum adsorption capacity ($q_{max}$) was calculated as 23.87 mg/g from Langmuir isotherm model.

Soft computing techniques in prediction Cr(VI) removal efficiency of polymer inclusion membranes

  • In this study soft computing techniques including, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) were investigated for the prediction of Cr(VI) transport efficiency by novel Polymer Inclusion Membranes (PIMs). Transport experiments carried out by varying parameters such as time, film thickness, carrier type, carier rate, plasticizer type, and plasticizer rate. The predictive performance of ANN and ANFIS model was evaluated by using statistical performance criteria such as Root Mean Standard Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and Coefficient of Determination (R2). Moreover, Sensitivity Analysis (SA) was carried out to investigate the effect of each input on PIMs Cr(VI) removal efficiency. The proposed ANN model presented reliable and valid results, followed by ANFIS model results. RMSE and MAE values were 0.00556, 0.00163 for ANN and 0.00924, 0.00493 for ANFIS model in the prediction of Cr(VI) removal efficiency on testing data sets. The R2 values were 0.973 and 0.867 on testing data sets by ANN and ANFIS, respectively. Results show that the ANN-based prediction model performed better than ANFIS. SA demonstrated that time; film thickness; carrier type and plasticizer type are major operating parameters having 33.61%, 26.85%, 21.07% and 8.917% contribution, respectively.

개질된 Nanoscale Zero-Valent Iron을 이용한 질산성질소 처리 (Removal of Nitrate by modified Nanoscale Zero-Valent Iron)

  • A Nanoscale Zero-Valent Iron(NZVI) was modified to build a reactor system to treat nitrate. Shell layer of the NZVI was modified by slow exposure of the iron surface to air flow, which produced NZVI particles that are resistant to aerial oxidation. A XANES (X-ray Absorption Near-Edge Structure) analysis revealed that the shell consists of magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$) dominantly. The shell-modified NZVI(0.5 g NZVI/ 120 mL) was able to degrade more than 95% of 30 mg/L of nitrate within $30 hr^{-1}$ ( pseudo first-order rate constant($k_{SA}$) normalzed to NZVI surface area ($17.96m^2/g$) : $0.0050L{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}hr^{-1}$). Ammonia occupied about 90% of degradation products of nitrate. Nitrate degradation efficiencies increased with the increase of NZVI dose generally. Initial pH values of the reactor systems at 4, 7, and 10 did not affect nitrate removal rate and final pH values of all experiments were near 12. Nitrate removal experiments by using the shell-modified NZVI immobilized on a cellulose acetate (CA) membrane were also conducted. The nitrate removal efficiency of the CA membrane supported NZVI ($k_{SA}=0.0036L{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}hr^{-1}$) was less than that of the NZVI slurries($k_{SA}=0.0050L{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}hr^{-1}$), which is probably due to less surface area available for reduction and to kinetic retardation by nitrate transport through the CA membrane. The detachment of the NZVI from the CA membrane was minimal and impregnation of up to 1 g of NZVI onto 1 g of the CA membrane was found feasible.

Influence of Implant Surface Coated with pH Buffering Agent on Early Osseointegration

  • Purpose: Surface treatment with pH buffering agent has been developed to achieve higher and faster osseointegration. The aim of this study was to evaluate its influence by measuring removal torque and analyzing histological characteristics. Materials and Methods: Titanium implants with following surfaces were used in this study: sand-blasted acid-etched (SA) surface (SA group as control I group), SA surface in calcium chloride aqueous solution (CA group as control II group) and SA surface coated with pH buffering agent (pH group as test group). Removal torque test after 2 weeks and bone-to-implant contact and bone area analyses at 2 and 4 weeks were performed. Result: The rotational torque values at 2 weeks were significantly higher in pH group ($107.5{\pm}6.2Ncm$, P<0.05). The mean values of bone-to-implant contact at 2 and 4 weeks were both higher in pH group ($93.0%{\pm}6.4%$ at 2 weeks, $88.6%{\pm}5.5%$ at 4 weeks) than in SA group ($49.7%{\pm}9.7%$ at 2 weeks, $47.3%{\pm}20.1%$ at 4 weeks) and CA group ($73.7%{\pm}12.4%$ at 2 weeks, $72.5%{\pm}10.9%$ at 4 weeks) with significances (P<0.05). The means of bone area showed significantly higher numbers in pH group ($39.5%{\pm}11.3%$ at 2 weeks, $71.9%{\pm}10.9%$ at 4 weeks, P<0.05). Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated that surface modification with pH buffering agent improved early osseointegration with superior biomechanical property.

좀개구리밥 (Lenma gibba G3)의 원형질막의 투과성 변화와 관련된 막전위의 특성 (Characterization of the Membrane Potential Relevant to Permeability Changes in the Plasmalemma of Lemna gibba G3)

  • The membrane potential in the subepidermal cells of Lemna gibba G3 fronds was measured in the dark with glass capillary microelectrodes. At pH 7, the membrane potential, approximately-215 mV, could be depolarized to -82∼-88 mV by 0.1 mM dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCCD) or by KCN at 0.3 mM or higher concentrations. When the pH of the medium was altered the potential showed reversible changes, while it revealed no response to the external pH changes when energy transduction across the membrane was being blocked by 0.1 mM DCCD. The results support an assumption that the active component of the membrane potential of Lemna subepidermal cells is generated by electrogenic H+ -pump. By the addition of 0.10∼5.00 mM salicylic acid(SA) to the bathing medium the membrane potential was depolarized to a great extent, and the removal of SA from the medium repolarized the potential showing almost complete recovery, 92.3∼97.6% to the initial levels. Although the potential was greatly depolarized by 5.0% or higher concentrations of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), the recovery rate by DMSO removal was decreased as the pretreatment concentration had increased. Twenty percent DMSO pretreatment limited the recovery at only 47.1%. The presence of SA in the bathing medium could reversibly increase the permeability of the plasmalemma. DMSO at its concentration of 5.0% or higher increased the permeability of the membrane by irrevesibly impairing the membrane component involved in the membrane permeability.

저영향개발 시설 설계 기준에 따른 용량 평가 방법 연구 (Research on Design Capacity Evaluation of Low Impact Development according to Design Criteria)

  • 전 세계적으로 도시화로 인해 파괴된 자연물 순환시스템 회복을 위해 저영향개발 (Low Impact Development, LID) 시설에 대한 관심이 커지고 있다. 하지만, LID 시설 용량 적정성 평가를 위한 종합적인 분석이 이루어지지 않아 LID 시설 도입에 많은 어려움이 제기되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 LID 시설 4개소(식생수로, 식생여과대, 식생체류지 및 투수블록)의 강우 모니터링 결과를 바탕으로 저감 효율 및 적정 용량 산정 방안을 분석하였다. WQV과 WQF을 설계 기준으로 하는 LID 시설의 강우 유출수(37%) 및 오염물질(TSS, BOD, TN 및 TP) 별 저감 효율(20% ~ 37.1%)이 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 바탕으로 용량 적정성 평가를 위한 SA/CA 그래프 도출 결과 모든 항목에서 결정계수 0.5 이상(비선형회귀모형 기준)으로 나타났으며, 특히 강우 유출수 및 TP에서 높은 결정계수를 보였다. 그리고 본 연구에서 제안하는 LID 시설의 구조적 차이를 고려한 'SA/CA & L/CA' 그래프 도식 결과, 'SA/CA'보다 강우 유출수, TSS 및 TP 결정계수가 향상됨을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통해 LID 시설의 용량 적정성 평가를 위한 'SA/CA & L/CA' 적용 가능성을 확인하였으며, 향후 일반화 및 표준화를 위한 추가적인 연구를 수행할 필요가 있다.

원전 증기발생기 2차측 화학세정을 위한 제동공정중의 전기화학적 거동 및 슬러지용해 거동 (Electrochemical and Sludge Dissolution Behavior During a Copper Removal Process for Chemical Cleaning on the Secondary Side of Nuclear Steam Generators)

  • 원전 증기발생기 2차측 화학세정시 두가지 주요 목표는 슬러지 제거를 효과적으로 하는 것과 모재금속의 부식을 최소화하는데 있다. 본 연구에서는 전기화학 실험과 슬러지 용해 실험을 통하여 제동공정 중에 어떤 인자들이 중요한 역할을 하는지 확인하고 외국에서 개발된 두가지 제동공정에 대하여 안전성 측면과 슬러지 제거 효과를 비교. 평가하고자 하였다. 38$^{\circ}C$에서 EDTA, NH$_4$OH. EDA를 사용하는 제동공정에 있어서 $H_2O$$_2$는 구리슬러지 제거에 적합한 전위구역으로 구리의 전위를 높여주는데 매우 효과적이었다. 이런 전위구역에서 SA 285 Grade C와 Alloy 600 재료의 부식속도는 매우 작았다. 그러나 전위가 -450 mV 이하로 유지될 때 SA 285 Grade C 재료의 부식속도 증가가 예상된다. 6$0^{\circ}C$에서 EDA, (NH$_4$)$_2$CO$_3$를 사용하는 공정은 구리의 부식전위가 -200 mV이상으로 유지될 때 효과적인 제동이 가능하였으나 전위를 공기주입과 용액교반으로 이 구역으로 올리기는 매우 어려웠다.
