Rooting agents and shading treatments were tested in two different experiments to determine their effects on the establishment success of hardwood cuttings of three highbush blueberry varieties 'Bluecrop', 'Duke' and 'Sunrise'. For the experiment with rooting agents, one-cm long bases of the cuttings were dipped into solutions of IBA or NAA for 5 s, both at 0, 500 and $1000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ in 50% ethanol, and were also treated with Rootone$^{(R)}$ powder. Determined 90 days after cutting, the percent rooting and root weight were increased by NAA at $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ in 'Bluecrop' and 'Sunrise', while in 'Duke' IBA at $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ was effective. These auxin treatments were found to work better than a commercial product Rootone$^{(R)}$. The rooting agent-induced increases in root development resulted in better shoot growth of the cuttings in all three varieties, as determined after 90 days of further growth in individual containers. In the experiment with shading treatments, different levels of the shading treatment (30 to 90%) were imposed over the cutting bed under no mist. In all three varieties, 30% shading increased the percent rooting and root and shoot growth, compared to no shading control. However, shading levels higher than 50% shading were found to be inhibitory for hardwood cuttings of highbush blueberries, especially under the environmental conditions with no mist system.
It is important to accelerate rooting and establishment of seedlings after transplanting for higher dry matter production and tuber yield in sweet potato cultivation. Therefore, this study was conducted to obtain some information about the effects of vine-cutting holding on rooting and plant growth after transplanting. Vines were cut 20-25cm long and stored for 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 days in a shade room at 20$\pm$0.5$^{\circ}C$, RH 68$\pm$,/TEX>1%. Peroxidase activity in the vine cuttings increased as the holding period increased and the highest catalase activity was detected in the 5-day holding. Length of main vine, number of branches and nodes on main vine also increased in the 5-day holding. There was little difference in the diameter of main vine among the various holding periods. The data obtained indicate that transplanting of vine cuttings after 5-day holding could promote rooting and vine growth.
Optimum conditions for rooting of hardwood cuttings of two mulberry varieties have been determined with respect to the concentration of IBA applied to the base of cutting, dipping depth into IBA solution, season of cutting collection and rooting medium in the bottom heat bins. 1. Optimum range of IBA concentration was 2,000 p.p.m.∼4,000 p.p.m. in Sariasi and Ichinose. 2. Most optimum dipping depth of cutting was 2.5 cm from the base of cutting 3. Rooting occurred most readily during December and March. 4. Perlite was the best medium to produce hardwood cuttings in the bottom heat bins.
This study was conducted to find out the propagation method of a rare variety Daphne kiusiana Miq. in Korea through softwood cuttings. Daphne kiusiana Miq are the evergreen broad leaf tree which have lived in the southern part of Korea. The flowering time of Daphne kiusiana Miq is early spring and the flower has an attractive fragrance. Generally, plants are dioecious and only the male plants are found in Korea. Propagation by seed is very difficult in this tree. Softwood cuttings were taken to establish an efficient propagation method in Daphne kiusiana Miq Cuttings were grown in perlite:vermiculite (1 : 1), perlite, vermiculite, sand rooting media under shaded greenhouses during summer in 2007. The rooting rates of cuttings were 86.7%, 95%, 75% and 95% in perlite:vermiculite (1 : 1), perlite, vermiculite and sand media, respectively. Softwood cuttings taken on July and rooting at $27^{\circ}C$ were significantly improved the growth and rooting rates. Softwood cutting can be an effective means of propagation in Daphne kiusiana Miq.
Disbudded epicotyl cuttings from light-grown 6-day-old seedings of Vigna angularis Owhi et Ohashi were preincubated in $2\;\times\;10^{-4}M$ IAA solution for 48 hr to promote adventitious root formation in upright or inverted direction and then incubated in upright direction for 96 hr. Adventitious root formation occurred only at the morphological base of the cuttings which were preincubated in upright direction, while at the both ends in inverted direction. IAA treatment enhanced the adventitious root formation in all cuttings regardless of their orientation during preincubation. To elucidate localized root development, the activity of enzymes involved in root initiation and development was measured 24 hr, 48 hr, and 148 hr after epicotyl incubation. IAA oxidase, peroxidase and catalase were assayed in the apical, middle and basal segment of the epicotyls, and their fresh weight and length were measured. Elongation occurred the most in the upper segment of the epicotyl while fresh weight gain was the most in the basal segment. At root initiation phase, 24 hr after incubation IAA peroxidase and catalase activities appeared high at rooting zone while IAA oxidase activity was low at both ends, IAA oxidase and peroxidase activities declined at the rooting zone during the adventitious root formation at 48 ht. Inversion of cuttings during preincubation caused a chrange of enzyme activities along their epicotyl cuttings. Only peroxidase activity showed a high correlation with root initiation. Therefore, the biochemical change is highly correlated with change in IAA level in the rooting zone of the epicotyl, resulting in root formation in unusual rooting zone of epicotyl.

Cuttings based on water media are relatively low-cost and easy to manage compared to those based on soil media. Nevertheless, species that root out in water media are very few. Water-medium rooted cuttings are not widely used. In water media, the survival rate of cuttings is high, but in many cases, they only form callus while not rooting. If cuttings with callus formed in a water medium were to root and survive after being transplanted in soil, water-medium cuttings could be used as an important means of propagating landscape tree species. In this study, cuttings of Ternstroemia japonica having various reactions to water media were soaked in different types of water media. Their callus formation and rooting conditions were analyzed. The water-medium cutting swere then transplanted in soil, and conditions for their survival were examined. The study concluded: 1. Cuttings that only formed callus in water media were able to root and survive after being transplanted. 2. Cuttings with satisfactory callus formation showed more satisfactory survival conditions than those with unsatisfactory callus formation. 3. Cuttings rooted in water media showed a high survival rate of 96.6% after being transplanted. 4. Water-medium cutting of Ternstroemia japonica proved to be more effective in Late July or August than in late June. 5. Cuttings pre-treated in 50ppm-IBA for 24 hours showed better survival conditions than those that were not pre-treated inIBA. 6. Cuttings pre-treated in 50ppm-IBA for 24 hours and soaked in water media with 0.02% atonic, 0.02% polyoxin, and 0.01% polyoxin showed a rooting and survival rate of 80 to 85%. Regardless their low rooting rate, water-medium cuttings can show a high survival rate when these factors are considered: proper cutting time, plant hormone treatment, and types of water media. Accordingly, water-medium cuttings will emerge as major means of propagating landscape tree species that require small volumes of multi-species.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of plant growth retardants (daminozide, chlormequat, hexaconazole, uniconazole, paclobutrazole) and fungicides of triazole chemical (microbutanil, difenoconazole, terbuconazole, bitertanol) on the rooting of 'New Guinea' impatiens cuttings. In both 'Papete' and 'Anguilla', the formation of adventitious roots was promoted by all concentrations of chlormequat, hexaconazole, uniconazole, and paclobutrazole treated. More adventitious roots were formed with hexaconazole, uniconazole, and paclobutrazole than with chlormequat. Length of the longest root and rooting zone decreased at higher concentrations of chlormequat, hexaconazole, uniconazole, and paclobutrazole in 'Papete', while 'Anguilla' showed less responses. In contrast with plant growth retardants, the formation of adventitious roots was remarkably promoted by fungicides of triazole chemical such as microbutanil, difenoconazole, terbuconazole, and bitertanol in 'Pepete' and 'Martinique' impatiens, but was not in 'Pagopago'. However, length of the longest root and rooting zone showed more sensitive response in 'Martinique' and 'Pagopago' than in 'Pepete'. These results suggest that fungicides of triazole chemical can be effectively used for rooting promotion of impatiens cuttings.
This research was done to identify the mass propagation method in winter daphne (Daphne odora Thunb) using its softwood cuttings and to investigate its plant characters established at different light and soil conditions as an indoor plant. Cuttings from winter daphne were taken and grown in different treatment consisted of rooting media (perlite, vermiculite, perlite + vermiculite (1 : 1) and commercial horticulture media soil), indole butyric acid (IBA) hormone concentrations (0, 100, 500, 1000 ppm and Rootone) and date of cutting. Transplants were grown at different light intensities (100, 1000, 2500 lux and control) and growing media. Results showed that cuttings grown in perlite + vermiculite (1 : 1) gave higher percentage (100%) rooting. Cuttings treated with Rootone and IBA 100 ppm showed good rooting growth and cutting taken in June, 25 gave the highest rooting (96.7%). The best plant growth obtained at 1000 lux (56~60 ${\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) followed by 2500 lux (125~130 ${\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) and scoria mixed with commercial horticulture media soil showed better growth of transplants.

Background: Planting vigorous cuttings that quickly develop shoots and roots is essential to the biological and economic success of producing medicinal flowers. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of storage temperature and duration on seedling capacity in the propagation of Chrysanthemum indicum L. and to investigate the effect of rooting media on the growth of C. indicum L. after cutting. Methods and Results: Returning cuttings to supplemental cold storage ($2.0{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$) may extend duration of cutting viability 6 weeks, returning cuttings to supplemental warm storage ($25.0{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$) is not recommended. The treatment of the growing media experiments, which were conducted in the 2014 planting seasons, included sawdust, river sand, topsoil + sawdust, topsoil + poultry manure, sawdust + river sand, river sand + poultry manure, topsoil + river sand + poultry manure, topsoil + poultry manure + river sand + sawdust. Result indicated that the topsoil + poultry manure media performed best and supported the highest number of branches (3.47), branch length (26.39), and number of leaves (88.63). Conclusions: The results of the present study suggest that cold storage and the topsoil + poultry manure growth media was superior in supporting the early establishment of C. indicum cutting, this result will have a tremendous influence on propagation of this species.
This study was conducted to find out a proper cutting time as related with a growth pattern for the mass propagation of Corylopsis coreana, which is one of the Korean endemic plant. New shoots began to grow in early April soon after end of blooming time and grew rapidly until the end of June. Shoot growth became dull after June and stopped in early September, showing a typical primary growth curve of temperate deciduous trees which show only one flush of growth throughout an annual growth cycle. The moisture content of shoot was the highest in an early growing season of May, and decreased with shoot maturity. Moisture content of cuttings taken on June 20 was 71.2%. Rooting was better in softwood cuttings than in hardwood cuttings. The highest value of rooting percentage was obtained in cuttings taken on June 20.
