  • In this study, the annual growth of roots and their branching forms of Norway spruce(Picea abies [L.] Karst.) were analysed to compare the development of their root in the differently acidified forest soils. And there was no significant difference among the stands for the modified roots and the non-modified roots depending on the root branch forms, and however in the most acidified Weidenbrunnen stand, the modified roots, the abnormal root branch form such as fork, gun and rake types were appeared. As a result of the ring of the root, the annual horizontal root growth were 6.3cm for Weidenbrunnen and Barbis stands and 9.5cm for Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen stand. The average annual vertical root growth was 4.4cm, 5.4cm, and 6.7cm for Weidenbrunnen stand, Barbis stand, and Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen stand, respectively. The cross section area by root distribution at 80cm deep showed that the thick and thin roots were evenly distributed in of Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen stand and the sum of root cross section area was $32.6cm^2$. In Barbis stand, the thick roots were distributed in the center while the thin roots were comparatively rare. And the sum of root cross section area was $29.2cm^2$. In Weidenbrunnen stand, only a few thin roots were found, and the total root cross section area was $10.9cm^2$. The stability coefficient of roots were in the order of Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen stand(1.04), Barbis stand (0.3), and Weidenbrunnen(0.08) stand. Among the investigated Norway spruce stands, the modified abnormal root branching form and the low root growth appeared in the Weidenbrunnen stand could be attributed by the soil acidification etc.

  • We study on the significance and application of the whole body form diagnosis. The results were as follows; The general form diagnosis is the method to observe the individual physiology and pathology. The phase of thinking, the current and activity of KI, the pattern of general form diagnosis have organic relations with the symptoms. The general form diagnosis is made up the principle of the imaging phase, therefore it must make synthetic union the differentiation of syndromes. The general form diagnosis of NAE GYEONG shows the typical phases and it is divided with the sight of YIN YANG and Five-Element. The general form diagnosis of SEOP GAE is practiced the theory of constitution's demonstration before the understanding of symptoms. Then JANG NAM tried the type of constitution's demonstration. The general form diagnosis of DONG MU becomes the diagnostic root of constitution's demonstration in four type constitution theory.

  • Anatomical and biochemical changes of the corn root injured by the root lesion nematode, Pratylenchus vulnus, were examined to understand the interactions between the nematode and the crop which can be applied to a breeding program for nematode-resistant crop. The nematode and the crop which can be applied to be a breeding program for nematode-resistant crop. The nematode entered the cortex of corn root through its epidemis. They moved to other cortical cells by breaking their cell walls. They, finally, gathered around the endodermis of the roots and the bases of the root hairs. Parasitism of the nematode formed cavities within the root tissues where the females laid eggs. Major root damage by the nematode occurred in the cortical cells where must cell walls were broken and crushed to form empty spaces. These empty spaces in the base of the root resulted in this breakdown. Damage-induced biochemical changes of the corn roots were analysed by their total protein patterns and esterase activities in both control and nematode-infected roots. Denaturing gel did not show any significant difference in the banding patterns between them. Esterase patterns and activities, also, were not significantly different between the infected and the control roots.

  • Background: Endodontic sealers or their toxic components may become inflamed and lead to delayed wound healing when in direct contact with periapical tissues over an extended period. Moreover, an overfilled sealer can directly interact with adjacent tissues and may cause immediate necrosis or further resorption. Therefore, the treatment outcome conceivably depends on the endodontic sealer's biocompatibility and osteogenic potential. This study aimed to evaluate the cell viability and osteogenic effects of four different sealers in osteoblastic cells. Methods: AH Plus (resin-based sealer), Pulp Canal Sealer EWT (zinc oxide-eugenol sealer), BioRoot RCS (calcium silicate-based sealer), and Well-Root ST (MTA-based calcium silicate sealer) were mixed strictly according to the manufacturer's instructions, and dilutions of sealer extracts (1/2, 1/5 and 1/10) were determined. Cell viability was measured using the water-soluble tetrazolium-8 (WST-8) assay. Differentiation was assessed by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and mineralized nodule formation by Alizarin Red S staining. Results: The cell viability of the extracts derived from the sealers excluding Well-Root ST was concentration dependent, with sealer extracts having the least viability at a 1/2 dilution. At sealer extract dilution of 1/10, the test groups showed the same survival rate as that control group, with the exception of BioRoot RCS. Among all experimental groups, BioRoot RCS showed the highest cell viability after 48 hours. The ALP activity was significantly higher in a concentration-dependent manner. Furthemore, all four materials promoted ALP activity and mineralized nodule formation compared to the control at 1/10 dilutions. Conclusion: This is the first study to highlight the differences in biological activity of these four materials. These results suggest that the composition of root canal sealers appears to alter the form of biocompatibility and osteoblastic differentiation.

  • In order to study the structure of arbitrary split Leibniz triple systems, we introduce the class of split Leibniz triple systems as the natural extension of the class of split Lie triple systems and split Leibniz algebras. By developing techniques of connections of roots for this kind of triple systems, we show that any of such Leibniz triple systems T with a symmetric root system is of the form $T=U+{\sum}_{[j]{\in}{\Lambda}^1/{\sim}}I_{[j]}$ with U a subspace of $T_0$ and any $I_{[j]}$ a well described ideal of T, satisfying $\{I_{[j]},T,I_{[k]}\}=\{I_{[j]},I_{[k]},T\}=\{T,I_{[j]},I_{[k]}\}=0 \text{ if }[j]{\neq}[k]$.

  • A computer program which can differentiate compounds whose absorbance spectra are very similar was developed. The program. [SPECMAN PLUS], written in Pascal provides automated spectral comparison techniques, utilizing the values of Root Mean of Squares (RMS) of differences. This comparison routine of the program can deal with spectra of compounds different concentrations and different spectral recording resolutions. In addition, the program was designed applicable to any spectral data of digital form. The program was applied to the UV spectra of 13 pencillins and 5 cephalosporins, whose absorbance spectra are so similar. As a result, all compounds examined could be differentiated from each other.

  • Cemental tears are uncommon form of root fracture that can lead to rapid localized periodontal attachment loss. Studies have described periodontal breakdown as being associated with the separation of the cementum from the underlying tooth structure. The aim of this case report is to assess the outcome of treatment of cemental tear with several surgical treatment regimens. Three patients with cemental tear were treated with different surgical method. In all three cases, the cemental tear occurred on maxillary right central incisors. In each case, the root fragment were removed, the localized defect was treated using different surgical methods including guided tissue regeneration and bone graft followed by scaling and root planting. In all three cases, symptoms subsided after the treatment and clinical attachment level was improved up to 2 mm at 3 month after surgery. Both conventional and regenerative periodontal surgery could achieve successful outcomes.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the alveolar bone surface following root separation angle in the mandibular second molars. The fifty mandibular second molars(which were extracted) were selected, and the alveolar bone surface following root separation angle of the selected teeth were evaluated. The results were obtained as follows; 1. The root separation angle of fifty mandibular second molars were divided into three groups. The first $group(10-20^{\circ})$ was made up of ten teeth, the second $group(20-30^{\circ})$ was made up of fifteen teeth, and the third group(30-40$^{\circ}$) was made up of twenty-five teeth. 2. The mean root separation angle was $28.1^{\circ}$. The mean alveolar bone rate on the mesial surface of the mesial root was 44.27%, on the distal surface of the mesial root was 36.52%, on the mesial surface of the distal root was 33.45%, and on the distal surface of the distal root was 25.28%. 3. The mean alveolar bone rate on the distal surface of the mesial root, which composed the root separation area, was 32.95% in the first group, 36.06% in the second group, and 38.22% in the third group. The mean alveolar bone rate in the mesial surface of the distal root was 31.40% in the first group, 31.93% in the second group, and 35.18% in the third group. 4. The positive correlation was found between the root separation angle and the alveolar bone rate in the root separation area.(P<0.05) Although the mandibular second molar is a very important tooth in the oral cavity, its treatment and diagnosis is very difficult due to the variation of its root form. When periodontal disease involves the mandibular second molar, the result of this study assists in its treatment and diagnosis.

  • Background: Some plants have harmful effects on fungi and bacteria as well as other plants. Incorporating such plant into soil as green manure is effective in reducing population densities of soil pathogens. Methods and Results: Twenty-three species of green manure crops were cultivated after the harvest of 6-year-old ginseng and then incorporated into the soil at the flowering stage. The following year, the root rot ratio of 2-year-old ginseng and soil chemical properties were investigated. In the absence of green manure addition, the $NO_3$ content, electric conductivity (EC), and K content decreased by 95%, 79% and 65%, respectively. In the presence of green manure addition, $P_2O_5$ and $NO_3$ contents reduced by 41% and 25%, respectively. The "survived root ratio" of 2-year-old ginseng significantly increased by 56.2%, 47.5%, and 47.3%, in the Sorghum sudanense, Ricinus communis and Helianthus tuberosus treatment, respectively. In addition, there was a significant increase in the "survived root ratio" in the Secale cereale, Chrysanthemum morifolium, Atractylodes macrocephala, and Smallanthus sonchifolius treatments. The "survived root ratio" of ginseng showed a significant positive correlation with the soil pH and a negative correlation with the $NO_3$ contents, and EC. Conclusions: Cultivation of plant form the Chrysanthemum family as green manure, using mainly the rhizomes was effective for the control of root rot disease of ginseng.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the sealing ability of ZOE, FR and Sealapex, as a root canal sealer. Ninety six extracted anterior or premolar human teeth with single root were instrumented by using conventional method. After instrumentation, the teeth were divided into three groups and thirty two teeth in each group were filled as follows: ZOE group: ZOE cement as a root canal sealer in combination with guttapercha cone FR group: FR root canal sealer in combination with guttapercha cone Sealapex group: Sealapex root canal sealer in combination with guttapercha cone $^{45}Ca$ in the form of calcium chloride, was employed as the tracer in this study and produce the auto-radiograph. The depth of isotope penetration into the root canal was evaluated by method by Yates and Hembree at the intervals of 1 day, 7 days, 14 days and 30 days. The following conclusions were derived from the results obtained; 1. After 1 day, ZOE group exhibited the greatest penetration degree of radioisotope (p < 0.05). 2. After 14 days, there was some difference of the radioisotope penetration between each group, but its difference was not significant statistically. 3. After 30 days Sealapex group exhibited the least penetration degree of radioisotope (p < 0.025). 4. In ZOE and Sealapex groups, there was no change of the degree of radioisotope penetration with time.
