  • The autonomous robot has the ability of obstacle avoidance and target tracking with some manufactured information. In this paper, it is shown that autonomous mobile robot can avoid fixed obstacles using the map made before and the fuzzy controller is adopted with the global path planing and the local path planing when the robot navigates. With that map sensor, information will be used when an autonomous robot navigates. This paper proves that robot can navigate through optimized route and keep the stable condition.

  • An animal assisted therapy (AAT) for handicapped child's psychotherapy has been reported by some researches. A robot can be substituted for the role of a real animal of the AAT. The robot for the AAT is called RAT (Robot Assisted Therapy). It consists of four parts: microprocessor-based MCU(Micro Control Unit), sensing part with various sensors, the movement part operated by some motors, and the exterior with soft feel. We will here introduce the RAT.

  • In this paper, a new localization method of indoor mobile robot using multi IR(infrared) range sensors is proposed. Each IR range sensor detects the edge of obstacles and wall using the acquired range data. The environment map is built by the merging process of the detected edge data of each sensor. The performance of proposed system is verified by the comparison of the real environment and the detected map in experiments.

  • This paper proposes a sensor-fusion technique where the data sets for the previous moments are properly transformed and fused into the current data sets to enable accurate measurement, such as, distance to an obstacle and location of the service robot itself. In the conventional fusion schemes, the measurement is dependent on the current data sets. As the results, more of sensors are required to measure a certain physical parameter or to improve the accuracy of the measurement. However, in this approach, instead of adding more sensors to the system, the temporal sequence of the data sets are stored and utilized for the measurement improvement. Theoretical basis is illustrated by examples and the effectiveness is proved through the simulations. Finally, the new space and time sensor fusion (STSF) scheme is applied to the control of a mobile robot in an unstructured environment as well as structured environment.

  • This paper introduces the control and measurement of a double parallel robot manipulator applied for unknown geometric surface grinding. A measurement system is developed to recognize a grinding path by a vision camera and to observe a grinding load by a current sensor. With the measured fusion information, an intelligent controller identifies the unknown geometric surface and moves the robot along the grinding path with a constant grinding load.

  • Up to now, a lot of unmanned demining systems have been developed. However, some inferiority surely exist by reason of their large platform and explosive mechanism. To settle this inferiority, non-explosive demining system adaptable to a mobile robot already has been developed. Brief experiment indoors showed that developed demining system can remove landmines well. But, out of doors, several problems are detected. In this research, a study on the performance improvement of developed non-explosive demining system is mainly discussed. To overcome downhill effect, mechanical sensor composed of shaft and spring is used. It is confirmed that clearance depth control using the mechanical sensor is a good solution for the inclination of the system.

  • Autonomous of welding process in shipyard is ultimately necessary., since welding site is spatially enclosed by floors and girders, and therefore welding operators are exposed to hostile working conditions. To solve this problem, a welding robot that can navigate autonomously within the enclosure needs to be developed. To achieve the welding ra나, the robotic welding systems needs a sensor system for the recognition of the working environments and the weld seam tracking, and a specially designed environment recognition strategy. In this paper, a three-dimensional laser vision system is developed based on the optical triangulation technology in order to provide robots with work environmental map. At the same time a strategy for environment recognition for welding mobile robot is proposed in order to recognize the work environment efficiently. The design of the sensor system, the algorithm for sensing the structured environment, and the recognition strategy and tactics for sensing the work environment are described and dis-cussed in detail.

  • In this paper, a robust and simple structured light sensory system has been studied to endow mobile robots with the ability of navigating in real world. A mobile robot with this sensor can be applied in two ways: first, real time navigation in 3-dimensional world, second, modeling and recognition of environment. Range data obtained with this sensor are fairy accurate, and the data aquisition speed is satisfactory. Experiments in diverse situation show effectiveness of the structured light sensor for the mobile robot.

  • This paper shows the development of robot sensor system using optical fiber. When the object recognition is implemented in the existing robot system, the image processing method using CCTV-Camera has been most widely used. But when it is necessary to recognize and classify only simple elements in industrial field, the real time processing using this method requires relatively high cost. The purpose of this paper is to represent the fundamental study on the development of optical-fiber sensor system, which may be used to recognize and classify elements with low cost and real-time.
