  • The peak flood discharge at a downstream station and the flood travel time between a pair of dams due to a specific flood release from the upper reservoir are computed using a hydraulic river channel routing method. The study covered the whole large reservoir system in the Han River, Korea. The computed flood discharges and the travel times between dams were correlated with the duration and the magnitude of flood release rate at the upstream reservoir, and hence a multiple regression model is proposed for each river reach between a pair of dams. The peak flood discharge at a downstream location can be converted to the peak flood stage by a rating curve. Hence, the proposed regression model could be used to forecast the peak flood stage at a downstream location and the flood travel time between dams using the information on the flood travel time, release rate and duration from the upper dam.

  • Conventional gas deposits consist of pressurized gas held in porous and permeable reservoir rocks and its recovery takes place where the natural pressure of the gas reservoir forces gas to the surface. But gas hydrate is a crystalline solid, its prospects require reservoir rock properties approprate porosity, permeability with mapping of temperature and pressure conditions to define the hydrate stability zone. In this study, we have carried out to investigate the dissociation characteristics of methane hydrates and the productivities of dissociated gas and water with depressurization scheme. Also, it has been conducted the flowing behavior of the dissociated gas and water in porous rock and the efficiency of the production.

  • To document the basic ecological aspects of Chaoborus species, which has never been reported in Korea, we attempted to identify the species, to monitor seasonal and vertical dynamics, and to elucidate trophic relations of the species in Sang-Chun reservoir. Using morphological characteristics, we identified the collected samples as C. flavicans. Also, we compared the distribution of C. flavicans, Daphnia rosea and chlorophyll a to observed seasonal dynamics. The increase of C. flavicans was observed 1-2 weeks after the increase of D. rosea. Survey of diel vertica migration patterns in the summer season showed that C. flavicans were in hypolimnion at daytime, but moved to the epilimnion at night. Finally, to determine trophic relationships in Sang-Chun reservoir, additional studies on the food web were undertaken by stable isotope analysis. Chaoborus flavicans I-II instars appear to be filter feeders based on carbon isotope values. Trophic levels of C. flavicans III-IV instars were shown to be higher than other zooplankto based on nitrogen isotope values.

  • The purpose of this study was to analysis water quality monitoring data and to estimate future trends using ARIMA model of time series analysis. Water quality data in Chin yang reservoir were used with monthly monitoring interval during past 7 years. The variations of water quality parameters with periodicity and trend could be estimated by multiplicative ARIMA models and the statistical tests showed a good agreement with the observed data. Therefore, the monthly values of water quality parameters could be forecasted using these models.

  • Seasonal variation in species composition of fishes in the Sannam reservoir in Changwon, Korea was determined using samples collected by a three-sided fyke net in 2018. During the study period, we collected 2,181 individuals of 9 species, with a total weight of 111,552.2 g. The dominant species were Lepomis macrochirus, Carassius carassius, Erythroculter erythropterus, and Cyprinus carpio. These species accounted for 96.1% of the total number of individuals. The number of fish species, number of individuals, biomass and species diversity indices fluctuated with the seasons. The peak number of fish species occurred in May and August, the biomass of fishes was highest in May. Whereas the number of individuals was highest in February.

  • The muddy water occurrence possibility of reservoir were analyzed by considering GIS based soil erosion model, sediment delivery ratio and effective reservoir capacity. For the purpose, the weakness factors for the establishment of countermeasures of basin were analyzed by evaluating input factors of RUSLE model based on spatial data such as DEM, soil map, landcover map and so on. The potential of soil erosion was estimated considering highland upland. The sediment yields of Chungju-Dam and Soyanggang-Dam showed the highest result in sediment yield using sediment delivery ratio with considering basin area. The sediment concentration of Imha-Dam and Chungju-Dam showed the highest value as 0.791 $kg/m^3/yr$ and 0.526 $kg/m^3/yr$ respectively in sediment concentration with considering effective reservoir capacity. Especially, sediment yield of Imha-Dam was about 2.36 times lower than Soyanggang-Dam, but the sediment concentration was 1.90 times higher preferably, because the effective reservoir capacity of Imha-Dam was about 4.48 times lower. This study calculated sediment concentration using the 10 years mean rainfall event and could consider the aspects of soil, terrain, landcover, cultivation condition and effective reservoir capacity of each basin effectively through the results. Therefore, these quantitative sediment concentration data could be used to estimate the potential of high density turbid water for reservoir and applied with effective tools for the management of reservoir.

  • An integration study of watershed model(HSPF, Hydological Simulation program-Fortran) and reservoir water quality model (CE-QUAL-W2) was performed for the evaluation of turbid water management in Yongdam reservoir. The watershed model was calibrated and analyzed for flow and suspended solid concentration variation during rainy period, their results were inputted for reservoir water quality model as time-variable water temperature and turbidity. Results of the watershed model showed a good agreement with the field measurements of flow and suspended solid. Also, results of the reservoir water quality model showed a good agreement with the filed measurements of water balance, water temperature and turbidity using linkage of the watershed model results. Integration of watershed and reservoir model is an important in turbid water management because flow and turbidity in stream and high turbidity layer in reservoir could be predicted and analyzed. In this study, the integration of HSPF and CE-QUAL-W2 was applied for the turbid water management in Yongdam reservoir, where it is evaluated to be appliable and important.
