Remote Control of a Robot Through the Internet (인터넷을 통한 로봇의 원격 제어)

  • In this paper, We control remote robot using web browser. This system used independent four PC and each PC is used to operator PC, database server, web server and robot control PC. Remote control can escape the operator from constraint the time and workspace. If operator inputting control data in web browse then the control data is saved the data base server. The robot control PC is inputted control data from database at access intervals of 1ms. Also, if the control data is changed then robot is operated. It made simple robot using step-motor and the robot is operated by web browser. Finally, Robot system is exactly operated using control data and certificate of possibility the remote robot control using web browser.

  • In this paper, a web based remote control system located at too dangerous field to access for the worker. The system was designed and implemented for three-dimensional stereo camera connected to web server which can be controlled easily by client side person working in the safe monitoring room. The user in the client side can control the vergence/focus control and zoom-in/out and pan/tilt functions through an user interface. The user interface for remote control environment was designed and implemented with Java applet mechanism, and was tested the operation result of the system.

  • Frequent occurrences of a fire cause tremendous loss of human lives and their property. Recently, in order to cope with such catastrophic accidents, researches on fire-fighting robots are carried out in developed countries. Under the dangerous situations, it is sometimes impossible for fire-fighting men to access the firing place because of explosive materials, smoke, high temperature and so on. In such an environment, fire-fighting robots can be useful to extinguish the fire. It is usually very dangerous place where fire-fighting robots operate. Hence, these robots should be controlled by remote users who are for away from the firing place exploiting remote communication systems. This paper considers the communication systems between fire-fighting robots and remote users. The communication systems consist of two parts; digital packet communication systems and analog image communication systems. Digital packet communication systems transfer data packets in order to control fire-fighting robots and to check the state of the fire-fighting robots. Remote users watch the video around the fire-fighting robots by exploiting the analog image communication systems. In the future, the more prosperous the commercial communication network systems will be, the more evolved the communication systems for fire-fighting robots are.

  • The robot is an effective means to perform repetitive tasks quickly and accurately. It could be more effective in dangerous environments where human is difficult to access. The construction site is a dangerous environment with a high possibility of industrial accidents where heavy work is frequently carried out at a high place. In particular, an accident in the construction site is highly likely to lead to a severe disaster. Of course, various technologies are being developed to monitor the safety of workers in construction sites and prevent accidents, but there is a limit to eliminate the risk of accidents. Therefore, it is necessary to make efforts to replace workers exposed to dangerous environments with equipment or robots that could be controlled remotely in a more active way. In this study, Remote Precise Installation System was proposed to replace the workers exposed to the risk of accident at a high place during the bridge construction. Also, the conceptual design and analytical reviews of this system were carried out. Suppose Remote Precise Installation System is developed according to the derived concept and the target performance. In that case, this system is expected to be applied as a technology that can effectively replace the workers at the bridge construction site.

Factors Influencing Learning Immersion in College Remote Classes (대학생의 원격수업에서 학습몰입도에 미치는 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The study aimed to identify factors that affect college students' learning immersion in non-face-to-face remote classes. Methods: During COVID-19, a survey was conducted on 140 college students who were taking non-face-to-face remote courses at universities located in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheong-do, Korea. Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficients, Independent t-test, ANOVA, and Hierarchial stepwise multiple regression with SPSS (Windows version 27.0). Results: In the study, the most important variable influencing learning immersion was the student's self-efficacy, followed by instructor presence, class participation, lecture satisfaction, and credits. Conclusion: Instructors who teach major courses at college need to develop and apply ways to enhance learners' self-efficacy and class content that can boost learners' motivation in order to maximize learners' learning immersion. In order to facilitate learners' access to online media and maintain their interest in remote classes, passionate efforts need to be made by active instructors.

Large-Memory Data Processing on a Remote Memory System using Commodity Hardware (대용량 메모리 데이타 처리를 위한 범용 하드웨어 기반의 원격 메모리 시스템)

  • This article presents a novel infrastructure for large-memory database processing using commodity hardware with operating system support. We exploit inexpensive PCs and a high-speed network capable of Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) operations to build a new memory hierarchy between fast volatile memory and slow disk storage. The new memory hierarchy guarantees a reasonable response time, and its storage size enables us to run large-memory database systems with little performance degradation. The proposed architecture has two main components: (1) a remote memory system inside the Linux kernel to manage other computers' memory pages efficiently and (2) a remote memory pager responsible for manipulating remote read/write operations on remote memory pages. We insist that the proposed architecture is practical enough to support the rigorous demands of commercial in-memory database systems by demonstrating the performance of publicly available main-memory databases (e.g., MySQL) on our prototyped system. The experimental results show very interesting results from the TPC-C benchmark.

Development of Eire-lighting and Rescue Robot for Outdoor Environment using Target Oriented Design Methodology (목표지향설계 개념을 이용한 실외화재진압 및 인명구조 로봇의 개발)

  • This paper presents the development of fire-fighting and rescue robot for Outdoor Environment. In the procedure of this development, we follow Target Oriented Design (TOD) which is recognized as the systematic methodology to design a system by specifying the target clearly. For some real fire fighting tasks (e.g. tasks in shopping street and a market), narrow road make it difficult for existing fire engine to access the firing place. On the other hand, for dangerous tasks (e.g. gasoline station and a storehouse) the explosive materials make it impossible for fire-fighters to access the firing place. Moreover, the smoke and the high-temperature caused by fire make fire fighting difficult. In this situation, the solution is to develop the fire-fighting and rescue robot. TOD is performed firstly by analyzing the environment properties of fro place and the demanded tasks and the fire-fighting and rescue robot is manufactured. For safety, the fire fighting robot should be controlled by remote operation to keep the operator away from the fire, and the control system is divided into three parts: the robot controllers, controller for remote operating device and wireless communication system. We have selected and developed appropriate hardware and software for each part of control system with considering TOD. As a result, the fire-fighting robot functions correctly and the performance and usefulness of our control architecture is validated by successfully performing some fire-fighting tasks.

A Study on the System for the Computer Remote Control by Mobile (모바일 기반의 컴퓨터 원격제어 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • The development of various contents has been accelerated with the explosive increase of the number of internet users, the rapid expansion of wireless internet service and the pervasion of mobile terminal. Mobile service is able to offer the elastic service to anyone regardless of the place and the time. With this characteristics, this service could be extended even to the pace which the access was limited with the existing line service. The purpose of this study is to propose a system which is able to make a remote control of computer by means of mobile as an example of the production of contents for such mobile service. With this system it could be identified what kind of job a user of PC is making by mobile phone regardless of the time and place. The functions such as termination reboot, messenger, macro execution, and timer are included. The greatest advantage of the system proposed in this paper is to protect the youth, who are making an access recklessly to the harmful site, by use of mobile at my time and any place.

  • We usually applied PPP CHAP when the visited ISP subscriber accesses to authentication server in own home ISP network and IP Assignment for remote Internet service. But PPP CHAP doesn't support in case of visited ISP subscriber in GPRS network accesses to authentication sorrel in own home ISP network for wireless Internet service. We suggest solution for this problem with PPP CHAP improvement. For this we propose the modified PPP CHAP message format, PCO Message format at MT, and interworking message and format between GGSN and RADIUS in home ISP network for wireless internet service of mobile ISP subscriber at GPRS network in this paper. We also show authentication results when visited mobile ISP subscriber via PPP CHAP at GPRS network accesses the RADIUS server in home ISP network.

An Educational MBL Platform Development with Remote Access Functionality (원격 제어 교육용 MBL 플랫폼 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The Microprocessor Based Laboratory Systems(MBL) with the remote access functional could put basic science experimental facilities together by providing a modem platform that the students can utilize simultaneously to learn basic physics, chemistry and biology, Our educator target platform combines a highly integrated 8-bit embedded Atmega128 processor and real time embedded OS (operating system), allowing plenty of headroom for follow-on basic science projects for students. The proposed MBL-NUTOS (Microprocessor Based Laboratory-NUT/OS) employed in the lab are available with internet base simulation capabilities, on public servers and students personal PCs, enabling the students to study at home and increasing the opportunity of accessing for the science laboratory facility.
