  • Reliability growth is defined as the positive improvement in a reliability parameter over a period of time due to implementation of corrective actions to system design, operation or maintenance procedures, or the associated manufacturing process. In recent, the importance of reliability growth management has emerged in the military authority and industries. For effective application of reliability growth models, it is necessary to understand their characteristics and differences. This paper presents the concepts of reliability growth management and compares the features of reliability tracking and projection models centered on MIL-HDBK-189C for selecting the appropriate model for an one-shot system under development.

  • Recently reliability Improvement and certification are considered as important issues by world-wide leading and highly qualified companies in advanced countries. In Korea, from a few years ago, the policy for reliability certification newly has been driven to improve product competitiveness in part and material industry. As yet the reliability certification is local and domestic, it is necessary to develop local certification system to global certification system. Reliability certification system is composed of accreditation body, testing laboratory and reliability assurance. In this paper, we review the reliability certification system and its application in Korea and the current research trends in advanced countries. Finally we propose some suggestions for the eliability certification system to be an international standard.

  • Reliability assurance problem is an important issue in advanced company with good R&D capacity. In Korea, long-term and large-scale project for reliability improvement and certification have been conducted from 2000, 4 years ago. Generally, assurance is composed of system assurance and lot assurance. For reliability lot assurance. it is prerequisite to development reliability sampling plan with time-saving and minimum cost. In this paper, we aim to investigate previous study on reliability lot assurance focused on reliability sampling plans and propose some suggestions for the future study.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to measure the reliability of complex equipment. Reliability of product is one of the most important factor to achieve competitiveness in the market. While there were many researches for assessing the reliability on components and modules, research on quantitative assessment tool for equipment with many component was little because of equipment's complexity. Methods: In this article, we developed index to assess reliability management system by using IEC 60300 and Reliability Management Tool-kit. With MIR and BARS, we developed reliability index clauses relevant to reliability activities and found weight factor for each clause by survey on experts. Results: The results of this study were as follows; reliability index that can assess both management side and technology side of the company was developed. Conclusion: Using this index, we assessed the reliability of a manufacturing equipment and found out the current reliability level of the manufacturing equipment, and derived improvement points.

  • Purpose: In this paper, we developed a reliability index (RI) to efficiently compare reliability of products based on the design, development and production information such as reliability tests, quality, product life-cycle management. RI also can be applied to reliability prediction of a novel product as well as comparison evaluation among existing products. Methods: For evaluating RI, we proposed evaluation process which is composed of five steps. Target modules are selected based on warranty data and correlation analysis. Scores of selected target modules are calculated by scoring function. Finally, weights of RI model are determined by optimization method. Results: This paper presented an empirical analysis based on failure data of mobile devices. In this case study, we demonstrated that there is a direct correlation between evaluated RI and field failure probability of each product. Conclusion: We proposed the index for comprehensive and effective assessment of product reliability level. From the procedure of this study, we expected to be applied for reliability estimation of novel products and deduction of field failure-related factors.
