  • To investigate the bone remodeling phenomenon around implant device, 3-D mathematical simulation model was developed. Strain energy density from the finite element method was chosen for the indicator for remodeling process. Recursive calculations continued until converged results between FEM and mathematical model. For a osteo-integration example, bone-remodeling process in a implanted tibia of beagle was adapted. Calculated results indicated that the bone densities around screw pitch were increased which indicates firm fixations between the bone and implant. Screw design parameters have an influence on initial stability of the implant rather than remodeling process.

  • A robust Kalman filtering method for uncertain stochastic systems is suggested by adopting a perturbation estimation process which is to reconstruct total uncertainty with respect to the nominal state transition equation. The predictor and corrector of discrete Kalman filter are reformulated with the perturbation estimator. Successively, the state and perturbation estimation error dynamics and the corresponding error covariance propagation equations are derived as well. Finally we have the recursive algorithm of Combined Kalman Filter-Perturbation Estimator (CKF). The proposed combined Kalman filter-perturbation estimator has the property of integrating innovations and the adaptation capability to system uncertainties. A numerical example is shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, a subband filtering and adaptive prediction technique for analyzing harmonics in power systems is presented. In this method, the filter banks are designed to decompose odd and even order harmonics separately. The adaptive prediction has been employed reduce the transient and white noise effect in time varying harmonics detecting and tracking. The frequencies and amplitudes of the decomposed harmonics are estimated by recursive algorithm. To demonstrate the performances of the developed technique, computer simulations to the signal with the time-varying frequency and THD are carried out.

  • To protect the flooding damages in Medium and Small watershed, it needs to set up flood warning system and develope Flood forecasting Model in real-time basis for medium and small watershed. In this study, it was able to minimize the error range between forecasted flood inflow and actual flood inflow, and forecast accurately the flood discharge some hours in advance by using simplex method recursively for the determination of the best parameters of RETFLO model. The result of RETFLO performance applied to several storm of Yugu river during 3 past years was very good with relative errors of 10% for comparison of total runoff volume and with one hour delayed peak time.

  • This paper presents an implementation method of multi-channel synchronized phasor measurement device, which is based on the ASIC implementation of the sliding-DFT. A time-shared multiplier structure is proposed to minimize the number of gates required for the implementation. The design is verified by the timing simulation of its operation. The effect of coefficient approximation in the recursive implementation of the sliding-DFT is analytically derived and verified with the computer simulations.

  • The eigenvalue equations of multiple waveguides with step-index profile are derived by using the WKB theory. Phase changes unique to step-index discontinuity areintroduced when applying the WKB connection formula to turning points. The transfer matrix method is employed for the analysis of multiple structure and the derived eigenvalue equation are represented in the recursive form. The results by the WKB are compared with those by the FEM for a three-waveguide coupler.

  • In this paper, global chaos synchronization is investigated for WINDMI (J. C. Sprott, 2003) and Coullet (P. Coullet et al, 1979) chaotic systems using adaptive backstepping control design based on recursive feedback control. Our theorems on synchronization for WINDMI and Coullet chaotic systems are established using Lyapunov stability theory. The adaptive backstepping control links the choice of Lyapunov function with the design of a controller and guarantees global stability performance of strict-feedback chaotic systems. The adaptive backstepping control maintains the parameter vector at a predetermined desired value. The adaptive backstepping control method is effective and convenient to synchronize and estimate the parameters of the chaotic systems. Mainly, this technique gives the flexibility to construct a control law and estimate the parameter values. Numerical simulations are also given to illustrate and validate the synchronization results derived in this paper.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for designing a class of M-channel, causal, stable, perfect reconstruction, infinite impulse response (IIR), and parallel uniform discrete Fourier transform (DFT) filter banks. It is based on a previously proposed structure by Martinez et al. [1] for IIR digital filter design for sampling rate reduction. The proposed filter bank has a modular structure and is therefore very well suited for VLSI implementation. Moreover, the current structure is more efficient in terms of computational complexity than the most general IIR DFT filter bank, and this results in a reduced computational complexity by more than 50% in both the critically sampled and oversampled cases. In the polyphase oversampled DFT filter bank case, we get flexible stop-band attenuation, which is also taken care of in the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, a self-tuning optimal control algorithm is proposed to retain the optimal performance of an active suspension system, when the vehicle has some time varying parameters and parameter uncertainties. We consider a 2 DOF time-varying quarter car model which has the parameter variation of sprung mass, suspension spring constant and suspension damping constant. Instead of solving algebraic riccati equation on line, we propose a neural network approach as an alternative. The optimal feedback gains obtained from the off line computation, according to parameter variations, are used as the neural network training data. When the active suspension system is on, the parameters are identified by the recursive least square method and the trained neural network controller designer finds the proper optimal feedback gains. The simulation results are represented and discussed.

  • In this paper, a new neural networks and neural network based sliding mode controller are proposed. The new neural networks are an mor self-recurrent neural networks which use a recursive least squares method for the fast on-line leammg. The error self-recurrent neural networks converge considerably last than the back-prollagation algorithm and have advantage oi bemg less affected by the poor initial weights and learning rate. The controller for suspension system is designed according to sliding mode technique based on new proposed neural networks. In order to adapt shding mode control mnethod, each frame dstance hetween ground and vehcle body is estimated md controller is designed according to estimated neural model. The neural networks based sliding mode controller approves good peiformance throllgh computer sirnulations.
