A simulation study on detection of linkage between genetic markers and QTL in backcross design was conducted. The effects of various sample sizes and the degree of QTL dominance on detention of linkage were examined by using a simple regression analysis. The results indicated that as sample size increased, the standard error of the estimated slope became smaller. When the dominance effect of QTL was complete, the estimated slope tended to be negative but was statistically not significant at all with type I error of greater than 50%. With complete linkage between genetic Marker and QTL, the estimated intercept value was smallest but the estimated slope was largest as expected. In most cases with various degree of dominance and sample sizes, when the actual recombination rate became larger, greater values were obtained for the slope except in the case of complete dominance of QTL.
A simulation study was conducted to evaluate a fine-mapping method exploiting population-wide linkage disequilibrium. Data were simulated according to the pedigree structure based on a large paternal half-sib family population with a total of 1,034 or 2,068 progeny. Twenty autosomes of 100 cM were generated with 5 cM or 1 cM marker intervals for all founder individuals in the pedigree, and marker alleles and a number of quantitative trait loci (QTL) explaining a total of 70% phenotypic variance were generated and randomly assigned across the whole chromosomes, assuming linkage equilibrium between the markers. The founder chromosomes were then descended through the pedigree to the current offspring generation, including recombinants that were generated by recombination between adjacent markers. Power to detect QTL was high for the QTL with at least moderate size, which was more pronounced with larger sample size and denser marker map. However, sample size contributed much more significantly to power to detect QTL than map density to the precise estimate of QTL position. No QTL was detected on the test chromosomes in which QTL was not assigned, which did not allow detection of false positive QTL. For the multiple QTL that were closely located, the estimates of the QTL positions were biased, except when the QTL were located on the right marker positions. Our fine mapping simulation results indicate that construction of dense maps and large sample size is needed to increase power to detect QTL and mapping precision for QTL position.
A method using PCR was developed for the monitoring of glyphosate tolerant soybean (GTS) produced by the DNA recombination technique. We designed 3 pairs of specific oligonucleotide primers based on the gene sequences inserted in soybean and in lectin and ferritin genes as internal standards. Template DNAs were isolated from soybeans by the modified hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB)method and used for PCR with different primer sets. PCR, used with specific primer sets for GTS detection, showed the amplified DNA fragments with GTS template DNA but no product showed with non-GTS template. PCR amplified products were confirmed by DNA sequencing and were detected for up to 0.05% of GTS template DNA.

Apple stem pitting virus (ASPV), of the Foveavirus genus in the family Betaflexiviridae, is one of the most common viruses of apple and pear trees. To examine variability of the coat protein (CP) gene from ASPV, eight isolates originating from 251 apple trees, which were collected from 22 apple orchards located in intensive apple growing areas of the North Gyeongsang and North Jeolla Provinces in Korea, were sequenced and compared. The nucleotide sequence identity of the CP gene of eight ASPV isolates ranged from 77.0 to 97.0%, while the amino acid sequence identity ranged from 87.7 to 98.5%. The N-terminal region of the viral CP gene was highly variable, whereas the C-terminal region was conserved. Genetic algorithm recombination detection (GARD) and single breakpoint recombination (SBP) analyses identified base substitutions between eight ASPV isolates at positions 54 and 57 and position 771, respectively. GABranch analysis was used to determine whether the eight isolates evolved due to positive selection. All values in the GABranch analysis showed a ratio of substitution rates at non-synonymous and synonymous sites (dNS/dS) below 1, suggestive of strong negative selection forces during ASPV CP history. Although negative selection dominated CP evolution in the eight ASPV isolates, SLAC and FEL tests identified four possible positive selection sites at codons 10, 22, 102, and 158. This is the first study of the ASPV genome in Korea.
Legislation enacted worldwide to regulate the content of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in crops, foods, and ingredients, reliable and sensitive methods for GMO detection have been developed. Proteins produced in GMO plants can be determined by qualitative and quantitative analyses and thus GMO designation has performed exactly. Target proteins selected in this study were neomycin phosphotransferase II (NPTII), 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (CP4 EPSPS), cucumber mosaic virus(CMV), and phosphinothricin acetyltransferase (PAT). Analytical method employing western blotting was used for final characterization.
The objective of this study was to determine the response of QTL in each generation during selection to develop inbred lines. The simulation program was written in Fortran. Magnitude of QTL effects, base population size, number of QTL assigned to population, and the allelic frequency for the positive allele at each major QTL were highly associated with number of generations to fixation of QTLs during selection. Populations with larger QTL effects and larger base population size had more individuals with fixed QTL. However, a smaller number of QTL assigned to population had a higher fraction of individuals with fixed QTL at each generation compared with more populations with QTL. This simulation study will help to design biological experiments for detection of QTL-marker association using inbred population and to determine optimum number of lines with fixed QTL during inbred line development. To complement this study, additional simulation should be need with abundant replicates, more various population sizes, magnitude of QTL effects, and recombination between markers and QTLs.
In this paper, we intend to establish the judgement of electrical fire through analysis of PT(Potential Transformer) using the power installation. The columnar structure and the void generated by abrupt heat grew at the tenter of boundary-face on the metallurgical microscope analysis. The detection of OK lines was confirmed by EDX(Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) as melting and recombination due to the layer-short of the wiring. We found that the thermal-weight decrease occurred at 300$^{\circ}C$ in case of being the thermal-deterioration on the base of the result that analyzed the insulated-materials by using TGA, and the thermal reaction limited-value of PT insulator was about 300$^{\circ}C$ on the DSC curve. As this analysis, we confirmed what the layer-short appeared in the wiring of PT.
For higher sensitivity in ultraviolet (UV) and even vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) detection of silicon-based sensors, a sandwich-structured film sensor based on Ag Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR) was designed and fabricated. This film sensor was composed of a Ag nanoparticles (NPs) layer, SiO2 buffer and fluorescence layer by physical vapour deposition and thermal annealing. By tuning the annealing temperature and adding the SiO2 layer, the resonance absorption wavelength of Ag NPs matched with the emission wavelength of the fluorescence layer. Due to the strong plasmon resonance coupling and electromagnetic field formed on the surface of Ag NPs, the radiative recombination rate of the luminescent materials and the number of fluorescent molecules in the excited state increased. Therefore, the fluorescent emission intensity of the sandwich-structured film sensor was 1.10-1.58 times at 120-200 nm and 2.17-2.93 times at 240-360 nm that of the single-layer film sensor. A feasible method is provided for improving the detection performance of UV and VUV detectors.

Transparent conductors are commonly used in photoelectric devices, where the electric energy converts to light energy or vice versa. Energy consumption devices, such as LEDs, Displays, Lighting devices use the electrical energy to generate light by carrier recombination. Meanwhile, solar cell is the only device to generate electric energy from the incident photon. Most photoelectric devices require a transparent electrode to pass the light in or out from a device. Beyond the passive role, transparent conductors can be employed to form Schottky junction or heterojunction to establish a rectifying current flow. Transparent conductor-embedded heterojunction device provides significant advantages of transparent electrode formation, no need for intentional doping process, and enhanced light-reactive surface area. Herein, we present versatile applications of transparent conductors, such as NiO, ZnO, ITO in photoelectric devices of solar cells and photodetectors for high-performing UV or IR detection. Moreover, we also introduce the growth of transparent ITO nanowires by sputtering methods for large scale application.

By comparing MIRIS Paschen-${\alpha}$ ($Pa{\alpha}$) Galactic Plane Survey (MIPAPS) data with Anderson's H II region catalog (the most complete Galactic H II region catalog up to date), we confirmed $Pa{\alpha}$ detections from ~50% of the H II region candidates in Cepheus (Galactic longitude from $+96^{\circ}$ to $116^{\circ}$). The detection of the hydrogen recombination line identifies these candidates as clear H II regions. If we extend this result to the whole plane, more than 1000 candidates are expected to be identified as H II regions. In this contribution, we present the results of quantitative estimations (brightness, size, etc.) for the $Pa{\alpha}$ blobs detected in Cepheus. To obtain intensity of $Pa{\alpha}$ emission line, we perform background and point spread function (PSF) matching between two filter images (line and continuum filters) as well as flux calibration.
