A Study on the Actual Condition Survey of Apartment Rebar Work (공동주택 철근공사의 실태조사에 관한 연구)

  • The rebar work is very related to the safety and durability of the building. Recently, the rebar work is produced some serious problems due to the lack of skillful crafts-man and the rising cost of rebar materials. Many papers have dealt with the rebar work of the manufacturing system in plants with a view to improvement those problems. But, the research on the rebar work of the manufacturing system in field is in a insignificant condition. This study presents the following improvement schemes as a result. First, the education strengthening for evaluation on practical affairs, second, the reinforcement of drawing & management in shop drawing and finally the simplification of apartment rebar work in slab. Also, this paper aims at advancing apartment rebar work by the actual condition survey in slab work. The further research will be needed about the whole structure parts such as foundation, wall, girder and rebar truss-deck plate as one of the improvement methods.

  • Rebar work takes up big proportion in a construction work. The current process of purchasing, cutting and election, and working of rebar induces a lot of loss in rebar. This study is focused on analyzing the problem and the present condition of the process from the calculating of rebar quantifies to the actual constructional stage through surveying those who have experience in the estimation department, or the construction site of a domestic construction company. Many reform measures such as diversification of standard(i.e., 8-meter)bar, calculation of rebar quantities and construction according to the rebar election drawing, expansion of accuracy in layout plan, thoroughness in examination of layout plan in advance, utilization of the worked material, systemization of rebar control(management), and a shift in attitude of the field(site) manager were proposed as the result of the survey.

  • The rebar work is a labor intensive construction work with a high labor cost ratio. It is difficult to manage the productivity, construction time, and safety of rebar work. The problem of productivity decreased in rebar construction is due to a lack of workers according to the aged workers. Partial prefabrication rebar can be an alternative solution to productivity decreased in rebar work. The characteristic of partial prefabrication method is that time consuming component such as stirrup of beam assemble in factory and others assemble in site. Therefore, in this study, the time required for each rebar assembly method is measured and analyzed to confirm the possibility of productivity improvement.

  • With labor shortage and high-wage, the construction cost is rising and the construction-business is dull, demanding the construction environment of Korea to raise profitability through major cost savings and rationalization of construction management. Therefore, in this study, to improve many problems found in calculating rebar quantity for capital expenditure programming which is considered the beginning stage of rebar work. and to improve problems such as no grasping of rebar loss due to lack of systematic management in order/purchase stage and construction management stage, a rebar information-management-system was found and preyed. The relation database was designed for the rebar information management system by analyzing work process of a rebar manufacturing plant, as the rebar information that is necessary in a rebar manufacturing plant if similar to that of a purchasing department of general construction company. The Proposed rebar information management system was implemented in two large rebar production plants. The implementation of the proposed system showed that the system increased work efficiency, reduced the management manpower, and improved the project-integrated management

  • With labor shortage and high-wage era, the construction cost is rising and the construction business is dull, demanding the construction environment of Korea to raise profitability through major cost savings and rationalization of construction management. However, although reinforcing bar(rebar) work, which greatly effects the building's safety, endurance, and construction time, is an important phase in construction, it holds serious problem of quality and productivity deterioration due to its characteristic of intensive-labor and maintaining of old work methods resulting in poor management, and costs increase. Therefor in this study to investigate current situation and problems of rebar work and to find methods of betterment, a survey was conducted to site engineers and individuals in division of cost estimate of domestic construction company. The survey questions were on the subjects of (1) calculating rebar quantity, (2) ordering and procurement, (3) rebar cutting and bending, and (4) rebar work management.   • In this study, it was accomplished to analyze the productivity and manpower through the activity of rebar work for the application of rational construction cost in apartment house. And the rebar work is very important in the view of the expense and safety, and durability in the construction of R/C structure. Also the rebar work is very affected with productivity owing to the lack of manpower and materials cost rise.

  • Reinforced concrete works account for 40 to 50 percent of the total construction work. However, the shortage of construction workers is a problem in the delay of the construction period of reinforced concrete. The partial rebar prefabrication is one of the ways to shorten construction period. Thus, this study compared the partial rebar prefabrication and field fabrication method through work sampling. As a result, the partial rebar prefabrication showed a significant decrease in time compared to field fabrication method. As a result of this study, it is expected to be used as a reference for the efficient selection of reinforced concrete methods.

  • Importance of quality control is gradually increasing in the construction. And the reber work is very important things which influence in safety and durability of the building and accounts for about 9.8% of the total cost. Although reber work is important, quality control of the rebar work is still performed by attitude and experience of worker. Therefore, it is very important to quality achievement effort and quality standards recognition of rebar worker for quality sophistication in the construction. Some papers have dealt with the quality control in construction. But there was no study for actual conditions of quality standards recognition of rebar workers. The purpose of this study is to survey the actual conditions of quality standards recognition of rebar workers and to analyze difference of consciousness of administrator and worker. The result are : there id difference of consciousness of worker and administrator, workers work without knowing quality standard.

  • Reinforced concrete construction is one of the labor intensive construction projects and its productivity is very low. It is necessary to increase the productivity of rebar construction for improving the productivity of construction work. Therefore, in this study, the rebar drawings of apartment buildings are analyzed to prefabricate wall rebar unit shaped mesh in the factory and installing it on site. If the proposed wall rebar unit is applied to apartment construction working time of wall rebar can be reduced by 50% or more.

  • Due to a shortage of professional labor and the stagnant construction industry in recent days, there has been an increasing demand for securing profitability through cost reduction. Though its importance in the cost and its great influence on the safety and durability of structures, the labor intensiveness of rebar work has caused a serious problem of rising cost accompanied by the loss of rebar materials. In the plant manufacturing process, rebar is cut and bent at the automated facilities and conveyed to the construction site, which makes it possible to manufacture higher-quality bars and to reduce the losses from rebar materials. Different from the expectation, however, this type of plant manufacturing still has not been active since its first introduction in 1990s. In this study, a research on the actual condition of rebar manufacturing plant has been implemented and a standardized rebar manufacturing has been provided as a way to activate rebar manufacturing.
