The wafer temperature and its uniformity inside the LPCVD chamber were analyzed. The temperature uniformity at the end of the wafer load depends on the heat-insulating cap. The finite difference method was used to investigate the radiation and conduction heat transfer mechanisms, and the temperature field and heat diffusion in the LPCVD chamber was visualized. It was found that the temperature uniformity of the wafers could be controlled by the size and distance of the heat-insulating cap.
On-demand droplet generation with tunable droplet volume is fundamental in many droplet microfluidic applications. In this work, we propose an acoustofluidic method to produce water-in-oil droplets with prescribed volume in an on-demand manner. Surface acoustic waves produced from a slanted interdigital transducer are coupled with parallel laminar streams of dispersed and continuous phase fluids. Acoustic radiation force acting on the fluid interface enable generation of droplets in a microfluidic chip. We expect that the proposed acoustofluidic droplet generation method will serve as a promising tool for on-demand droplet generation with on-chip droplet volume control.

The stereo radiation detection system detects the gamma source and acquires two dimensional left and right images for gamma source and visible objects using the detection result. And then the system measures the distance to the radiation source from the system in 3D space using stereo vision algorithm. In this paper, we implemented the fast detection algorithm for gamma source from the system in 3D space to reduce the detection time with image processing algorithms. Additionally, the system's performance is verified through experiments on gamma irradiation facilities. As a result, if the fast detection algorithm applied to the system, we can confirm that the detection system represents a 35% better performance than the conventional detection method that is full scanning to acquire the stereo image. We also have visualized a gamma source distribution through a 3D monitor using the stereo vision algorithm in order to provide the information of radiation spatial distribution to the user efficiently.

In this paper we studied the radiation detection technology which described the radiation level distribution in high radiation area with remotely and safely. The designed radiation mapping system was composed of radiation nodes and radiation station. The radiation nodes could sense the radiation dose values with pMOSFET radiation sensors and transmit them to the radiation station. At the radiation station the received radiation values were merged with a geometric information and visualized at the virtual graphic location. For the functional verification of the above system, we attached the radiation nodes to each corner in our laboratory, executed the mapping tests, and confirmed the designed functions finally.

In droplet microfluidics, precise droplet manipulation is required in numerous applications. This study presents ultrasonic surface acoustic wave (USAW)-based microfluidic device for label-free droplet separation based on size. The proposed device is composed of a slanted-finger interdigital transducer on a piezoelectric substrate and a polydimethylsiloxane microchannel placed on the substrate. The microchannel is aligned in the cross-type configuration where the USAWs propagate in a perpendicular direction to the flow in the microchannel. When droplets are exposed to an acoustic field, they experience the USAW-induced acoustic radiation force (ARF), whose magnitude varies depending on the droplet size. We modeled the USAW-induced ARF based on ray acoustics and conducted a series of experiments to separate different-sized droplets. We found that the experimental results were in good agreement with the theoretical estimation. We believe that the proposed method will serve as a promising tool for size-based droplet separation in a label-free manner.

The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) is considered an ideal eukaryotic model and has long been recognized for its pivotal role in numerous industrial production processes. Depending on the cell cycle phases, microenvironment, and species, S. cerevisiae varies in shape and has different sizes of each shape such as singlets, doublets, and clusters. Obtaining high-purity populations of uniformly shaped S. cerevisiae cells is crucial in fundamental biological research and industrial operations. In this study, we propose an acoustofluidic method for separating S. cerevisiae cells based on their size using surface acoustic wave (SAW)-induced acoustic radiation force (ARF). The SAW-induced ARF increased with cell diameter, which enabled a successful size-based separation of S. cerevisiae cells using an acoustofluidics device. We anticipate that the proposed acoustofluidics approach for yeast cell separation will provide new opportunities in industrial applications.
Training for radiation protection and control requires a visual understanding of radiation, which cannot be perceived by the human senses. Trainees must also master the effective use of measuring instruments. Traditionally, such training has exposed trainees to radiation sources. Here, we present a novel e-training strategy that enables safe, exposure-free handling of a radiation measuring tool called a survey meter. Our mixed reality radiation-training system merges the physical world with a digital one. Collaborating with a mixed reality headset (HoloLens 2), this system constructs a mock-up of a survey meter in real-world space. The HoloLens 2 employs a browser-based application to visualize radiation and to simulate/share the use of the survey meter, including its physical movements. To provide a dynamic learning experience, the system adjusts the survey-meter mock-up readings according to the operator's movements, distance from the radiation source, the response time of survey meter, and shielding levels. Through this approach, we expect that trainees will acquire practical skills in interpreting survey-meter readings and gain a visual understanding of radiation in real-world situations.

As the existing radiation scanning systems use 2-dimensional radiation scanned images, the low accuracy has been pointed out as a problem of it. This research analyzes the applicability of the stereo image processing technique to X-ray scanned images. Two 2-dimensional radiation images which have different disparity values are acquired from a newly designed stereo image acquisition system which has one additional line sensor to the conventional system. Using a matching algorithm the 3D reconstruction process which find the correspondence between the images is progressed. As the radiation image is just a density information of the scanned object, the direct application of the general stereo image processing techniques to it is inefficient. To overcome this limitation of a stereo image processing in radiation area, we reconstruct 3-D shapes of the edges of the objects. Also, we proposed a new volume based 3D reconstruction algorithm. Experimental results show the proposed new volume based reconstruction technique can provide more efficient visualization for cargo inspection. The proposed technique can be used for such objects which CT or MRI cannot inspect due to restricted scan environment.
The technology of Computer Graphics (CG) has been in great progress for almost 20 years and has proven to be a valuable tool for a broad variety of fields, including nuclear engineering. To work in any hazardous environment for example radiation field is particularly challenging because the danger is not always visually apparent. In this study as the application of CG to nuclear engineering field, we proposed to develop a radiation risk recognition aided system in which various radiation information; radiation risks, radiation distribution, hazard information and so on, were visualized by CG. The system used the server and client system. In the server there were two parts; one (main-server) was the database part having various data and the other (sub-server) was the visualization part visualizing the human phantom by POV-Ray. In the client there was the input and output part. The outputs from the system were various radiation information represented by coloring, circle graph and line graph intuitionally. The system is useful for a broad range of activities including radiation protection, radiation management, dose minimization, and demonstration to the public.

Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) radiation of wavelength $\lambda$~10 nm or photon energy hv~100 eV is presently a blank region in the electromagnetic spectrum where applications are concerned. This is because no powerful sources were available until when intense-laser-produced plasmas are available. Both a new laboratory-sized source of EUV radiation and its new applications in lithography of semiconductor devices have been developed. (omitted)
