  • 양자 셀룰라 오토마타(QCA)는 CMOS의 기술을 상속받을 차세대 나노 전자 소자 중 하나이다. QCA는 원자규모 및 초저전력화로 이목이 집중되고 있으며 다양한 QCA 회로들이 제안되었다. 십진 출력을 요하는 전자회로와 마이크로프로세서에서 주로 사용되는 이진화 십진법(BCD)은 연산을 위한 변환은 편하지만 데이터 낭비가 심하다. 본 논문에서는 QCA 회로에서 감산 및 반올림에 효과적으로 이용될 수 있는 BCD-3초과 코드를 제안한다. 제안된 구조는 잡음을 최소화하고 공간 및 시간 복잡도를 고려하여 효율적으로 설계되었으며 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였다.

  • The problem of fluctuation-induced digital errors in a rapid single flux quantum (RSFQ) circuit has been a very important issue. In this work, we calculated the bit error rate of an RSFQ switch used in superconductive arithmetic logic unit (ALU). RSFQ switch should have a very low error rate in the optimal bias. Theoretical estimates of the RSFQ error rate are on the order of $10^{-50}$ per bit operation. In this experiment, we prepared two identical circuits placed in parallel. Each circuit was composed of 10 Josephson transmission lines (JTLs) connected in series with an RSFQ switch placed in the middle of the 10 JTLs. We used a splitter to feed the same input signal to both circuits. The outputs of the two circuits were compared with an RSFQ exclusive OR (XOR) to measure the bit error rate of the RSFQ switch. By using a computerized bit-error-rate test setup, we measured the bit error rate of $2.18{\times}10^{-12}$ when the bias to the RSFQ switch was 0.398 mA that was quite off from the optimum bias of 0.6 mA.

A brief review on recent developments of superconducting microwave resonators for quantum device application

  • Quantum information processing using superconducting qubit based on Josephson junction has become one of the most promising candidates for possible realization of a quantum computer. In the heart of the qubit circuits, the superconducting microwave resonator plays a key role in quantum operations and measurements, which enables single-photon level microwave quantum optics. During last decade, the coherence time, or the lifetime of the quantum state, of the superconducting qubit has been dramatically improved. Among several technological innovations, the improvement of superconducting microwave resonator's quality has been the main driving force in getting the qubit performance almost ready for elementary quantum computing architecture. In this paper, I will briefly review very recent progresses of the superconducting microwave resonators especially aimed for quantum device applications during the last decade. The progresses have been driven by ingenious circuit design, material improvement, and new measurement techniques. Even a rather radical idea of three-dimensional large resonators have been successfully implemented in a qubit circuit. All those efforts contributed to our understanding of the qubit decoherence mechanism and as a result to the improvement of qubit performance.

Generation of valley polarized current in graphene using quantum adiabatic pumping

  • We study a device structure which can be used to generate pure valley current and valley polarized current using quantum adiabatic pumping. The design of the structure allows the flexibility of changing the structure from one for pure valley current generation to one for valley polarized current generation by changing the applied electric potentials through changing the symmetry of the structure. The device is useful for the development of valleytronic devices.

  • We demonstrate a polarization insensitive waveguide filter using quantum well intermixing(QWI). The bandgap of epitaxial layer is modified from 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 1.40${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ using QWI and a Bragg grating filter is demonstrated using electron beam lithography technology. The fabricated waveguide filter has a 70% reflection efficiency and a 1.46nm filter bandwidth. Furthermore polarization insensitive transmission characteristics are observed. The device can be applied to photonic integrated circuits(PIC).

  • We have successfully manufactured high-quality top-contact organic thin-film transistors using inkjet technologies with sub-femtoliter droplet volume. Silver fine lines were directly patterned by inkjet on pentacene channel layers. The minimum width of silver lines was $1{\mu}m$ with without the need for pre-patterning or surface pretreatments. The mobility was $0.3\;cm^2/Vs$.

  • Quantum converters, a subset of resonant converters operating with optimal conditions are modeled. It is shown that series resonant converter(SRC) can be modeled as buck/boost converter with an equivalent inductor and parallel resonant converter(PRC) can be modeled as Cuk converter, with an equivalent capacitor. Also new resonant circuits with boost, buck-boost and Cuk converter characteristics are proposed. From these models, the quantum converters can be designed to be controlled with closed loop feedback, having many advantages such as low device switching stress, reliable high frequency operation and low EMI.

양자 논리회로의 정보 가역성에 대한 고찰 (A Study on the Information Reversibility of Quantum Logic Circuits)

  • 양자논리회로의 가역성은 정보 가역적 및 에너지 가역적 회로라는 두 가지 가역 조건을 만족할 때 실현될 수 있다. 본 논문은 다치 양자논리 회로에서 원래상태로의 정보가역성 회복에 필요한 연산 사이클을 모델링하였다. 모델링을 위해 유니터리 스위치를 산술 멱승 스위치로 사용하는 함수 임베딩 방법을 사용하였다. 양자논리회로에서 수반게이트 쌍이 대칭이면 유니터리 스위치함수가 균형함수 특성을 보임으로써 원래상태의 정보 가역성 회복에 1 사이클 연산이 소요되었다. 반대로 비대칭 구조이면 상수 함수에 의해 2 사이클 연산이 소요되었다. 본 논문은 ternary M-S 게이트로 hybrid MCT 게이트를 실현할 경우의 비대칭 구조에 따른 2 사이클 복원 문제는 비대칭 구조의 수반게이트들을 대칭구조의 수반게이트로 등가 변환하여 해결할 수 있음을 밝혔다.

  • 양자점 셀룰러 오토마타(QCA: Quantum-dot cellular automata)는 차세대 디지털 회로설계 기술로서 주목받는 기술이며, 여러 디지털 회로들이 QCA 환경에서 제안되고 있다. 내용주소화 메모리(CAM: Content-addressable memory)는 내부에 저장된 정보를 바탕으로 탐색을 진행하는 저장장치이며, 네트워크 스위칭 등 특수한 과정에서 빠른 속도를 제공한다. QCA 환경에서 제안된 기존의 CAM 셀 회로들은 필요 면적과 에너지 손실이 크다는 단점이 있다. CAM 셀은 정보가 저장되는 메모리 부와 탐색의 성공 여부를 판단하는 판단부로 구성되며, 본 연구에서는 메모리 부를 다층구조로 설계하여 개선된 QCA CAM 셀을 제안한다. 제안한 회로는 시뮬레이션을 사용하여 동작을 검증하며 기존 회로와 비교 및 분석한다.

Operation of a High-T$_c$ Rapid Single-Flux-Quantum 4-stage Shift Register

  • We have designed and fabricated a single-flux-quantum(SFQ) four-stage shift register using YBCO bicrystal Josephson junctions, and tested its operations using a digital measurement set-up. The circuit consists of 4 shift register stages and a read SQUID placed next to each side of the shift register. Each SQUID was inductively coupled to the nearby shift register stage. The major obstacle in testing the circuits was the interference between the two read SQUIDs, and we could get over the problem by determining the correct operation points of the SQUID from the simultaneously measured modulation curves. Loaded data ('1' or '0') were successfully shifted from a stage to the next by a controlled current pulse injected to the bias lines located between the stages, and the corresponding correct data shifts were observed with the two read SQUIDs.
