Purpose: This study was designed to test structural equation modeling of the quality of life of pre-dialysis patients, in order to provide guidelines for the development of interventions and strategies to improve the quality of life of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Methods: Participants were patients who visited the nephrology outpatient department of a tertiary hospital located in Seoul. Data on demographic factors, social support, nutritional status, physical factors and biobehavioral factors and quality of life were collected between March 4 and March 31, 2011. Results: In the final analysis 208 patients were included. Of the patients 42% were in a malnourished state. Anxious or depressed patients accounted for 62.0%, 72.6%, respectively. Model fit indices for the hypothetical model were in good agreement with the recommended levels (GFI=.94 and CFI=.99). Quality of life in pre-dialysis patients with CKD was significantly affected by demographic factors, social support, nutritional status, physical factors and biobehavioral factors. Biobehavioral factors had the strongest and most direct influence on quality of life of patients with CKD. Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of life in pre-dialysis patients with CKD, comprehensive interventions are necessary to assess and manage biobehavioral factors, physical factors and nutritional status.

Purpose: This study was done to apply Andersen's behavioral model to identify factors that determine oral health-related quality of life in elderly persons. Methods: Participants were 257 people ages 65 years or older. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The variables in the behavioral model, predisposing factors, enabling factors and need factors, explained 31% (F=12.7, p<.001) of variance in oral health-related quality of life. The predisposing factors, enabling factors, need factors and health behavior collectively explained 35% (F=9.22, p<.001) of variance in oral health-related quality of life. Factors influencing oral health-related quality of life in older adults were ADL and IADL, self-reported oral health status, xerostomia and dental care in last 12 months. Conclusions: The analysis results showed that the need factor had the highest level of relative importance of the three factors. The model used for this study can be used to predict oral health-related quality of life.
Objectives: We aimed to identify the factors related to depression and quality of life in patients with hypertension by using multilevel regression analysis. Methods: In 2019, 229 043 participants in the Korean Community Health Survey were selected as the study group. Individual factors were identified using data from the 2019 Community Health Survey. Regional factors were identified using data from the National Statistical Office of Korea. Multilevel regression analysis was conducted to find individual and local factors affecting depression and quality of life in patients with hypertension and to determine any associated interactions. Results: As individual factors in patients with hypertension, women, those with lower education-levels, recipients of basic livelihood benefits, and those with poor dietary conditions showed stronger associations with depression and quality of life. As regional factors and individual-level variables in patients with hypertension, lower gross regional personal income, fewer doctors at medical institutions, and lower rates of participation in volunteer activities presented stronger associations with depression and quality of life. In addition, the associations of depression with gross regional personal income, the number of doctors at medical institutions, and dietary conditions were significantly stronger in patients with hypertension than in patients without hypertension. The associations of gender and employment status with quality of life were also significantly greater. Conclusions: Policy interventions are needed to adjust health behaviors, prevent depression, and improve quality of life for patients with hypertension, especially for those with the risk factors identified in this study.

This study aimed that certain risk factors are linked to the risk of developing depression and decreasing quality of life. This study was implemented using data from the 6th and 7th Korea National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey. The National Health and Nutrition Survey consist of health surveys, screenings, and nutrition surveys. Among the risk factors, data on adult diseases such as depression, hypertension, arthritis, diabetes, cataract, glaucoma, and macular degeneration were used. In total, 12,768 adults over 20 years of age were selected, of whom 520 were diagnosed with depression. The most common risk factors in adults over 20 years of age were hypertension, arthritis, cataract, diabetes, depression, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Their risk factors were analyzed if these were associated with depression and quality of life. The results revealed that hypertension, arthritis, diabetes, cataract, glaucoma, and macular degeneration were predictors for the occurrence of depression in adults. The factors associated with the highest risk for depression were arthritis and glaucoma. Furthermore, the study investigated the effect of certain factors on the quality of life; the factor associated with the greatest impact on quality of life was arthritis. This study verified that the aforementioned factors were related to the risk of developing depression and decreasing quality of life.
This study intended to provide fundamental data to take countermeasures against recurrent stress by analyzing the health-related quality of life and factors for recurrent stress of alcohol dependents. Structured questionnaire was prepared for patients who quitted drinking after they had been hospitalized for alcohol dependence to take medical treatment but suffered recurrence, and analysis on health-related quality of life and environmental factors with drinking risk was conducted. The quality of life was at a relatively satisfactory level, where pain was found at the highest level and general health condition was found at the lowest level. Environmental factors with drinking risk were found to be a moderate level, drinking for the reason of family and friends in terms of complications with other persons was found to be highest, and then job, self control, bad emotions, and social pressure on drinking were found in order. For health-related quality of life, the quality of life was found to be high in case of the only son, professional job, well-educated persons, and no history of hospitalization. Regarding factors for recurrent stress, stress was found to be high in case of the eldest son and being without religion, and the lower was the quality of life, the higher were recurrent stress and environmental factors with drinking risk. It was found that demographic factors including age, marriage, and job influenced the recurrence of alcohol dependence, and factors for recurrent stress, etc. also influenced recurrent alcohol dependence with drinking risks. Specially, the lower was the quality of life, the higher were factors for recurrent stress, and drinking risks, therefore measures to improve the quality of life are required to be taken to prevent alcohol dependence from recurrence.
The purpose of this study was to analyze how much demographic and disability-related characteristics influence the quality of life that employed and unemployed disabled people, and determine difference in the influence of those factors between the two disabled groups. For this purpose, the study utilized 1st-year(2016) data from the 2nd wave of the Korean Panel Study on Employment for the Disabled. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, employment is a critical factor that influences the disabled's quality of life. Besides, there are some financial, socio-relational and physical factors on which that quality is heavily dependent. Second, employed disabled people's quality of life is even more influenced by financial factors, socio-relational factors and health state than demographic factors. Third, unemployed disabled people's quality of life is significantly influenced by some demographic factors like gender and age and some physical factors like disability grade and disability period as well as by factors found influencing employed disabled people's quality of life. Thus, the two disabled groups are different from each other in which factors influence their quality of life. Based on these findings, this study made suggestions for the disabled's better quality of life.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing quality of life in kidney transplant recipients and to understand the concrete pathway of influence and the power of each variable, so that integrated prediction model to promote the quality of life of kidney transplant recipients could be developed. Methods: The sample was composed of 218 patients in follow-up care after a kidney transplant in one of 4 university hospitals in the Honam area. A structured questionnaire was used and the collected data were analyzed for fitness, using the LISREL program. Results: This model was concise and extensive in predicting the quality of life of kidney transplant recipients. Conclusion: The research verified the factors influencing quality of life for kidney transplant recipients and it verified that direct factors such as perception of health state, compliance, self-efficacy, stress and indirect factors such as self-efficacy and social support can be important factors to predict the quality of life for recipients. Moreover, those variables represent 87% of variance in explaining quality of life in a prediction model so that the variables can be utilized to predict quality of life for kidney transplant recipients.
This study aims at providing the basic data necessary for developing a model of and the policies for the improved quality of life of the adult population by measuring and analyzing factors affecting the quality of life based on a WHOQOL-Bref survey of 1,200 persons above the age of 20 residing in Taegu Metropolitan City area. 1. The factors affecting their quality of life were measured as follows: The physical conditions got the highest point of 3.31 while the psychological conditions got 3.20 and the environmental conditions got the lowest point of 3.09. The overall quality of life was rated to be at 3.11 2. General conditions affecting the quality of life, such as the economic conditions, health conditions and stress all turned out to be variables having significant differences(p〈0.01) in all the factors affecting the quality of life. 3. Through the analysis, we also found out the positive correlation exists among all the factors determining the quality of life(p〈0.01), while the psychological factor turning out to have the highest correlation value(r=0.640) with the overall quality of life. 4. To find out the factors affecting all the aspects of quality of life, we also conducted a multiple regression analysis employing the general characteristics as an independent variable. The health, economic and stress conditions all turned out to be significant in all aspects(p〈0.01). Summarizing the above analysis, the quality of life has a high correlation with the psychological, physical and environmental conditions. It has also turned out that the health, economic and stress conditions have the greatest influence on the quality of life. Therefore, it is believed to be necessary that a comprehensive program be developed to promote the public health and to formulate a model for improvement of the people's quality of life that can enhance their physical, psychological and social health conditions.

Purpose : As the population aging deepens, the number of elderly people with arthritis is also continuously increasing. Accordingly, this study intended to identify the factors influencing the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of the elderly with arthritis according to household type and provide baseline data for developing a measure to enhance the life quality of the elderly with arthritis. Methods : The factors influencing the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of the elderly with arthritis were identified based on the raw data from the Korea national health and nutrition examination survey conducted in 2021. Data were analyzed with SPSS Statistics ver 25.0 for windows (IBM Corp), and the significance level (α) was set to .05. Statistical analysis was performed with t-test, ANOVA, multiple regression analysis, and post-hoc analysis with Duncan test. Results : The factors that influenced the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of single-households were medical aid (β=-.17, p=.045), restriction of activity (β=-.17, p=.023), self-rated health status (β=.29, p<.001), and anxiety scale (β=-.36, p<.001). The factors that influenced the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of multi-households were an age of 75 or over (β=-.14, p=.011), living in rural (β=-.14, p=.003), the outpatient department treatment experience (β=-.09, p=.047), self-rated health status (β=.26, p<.001), anxiety scale (β=-.29, p<.001), and stress (β=-.22, p<.001). Conclusion : Factors affecting the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of the elderly with arthritis were found to be different between single-person households and multi-person household. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare measures to improve the quality of life of the elderly with arthritis by considering the factors influencing the health-related quality of life (HINT-8) of the elderly with arthritis according to the household type identified in this study.
