  • IP is not suitable for mobile nodes by network-based routing because mobile nodes are dynamically change their network attachment point. Mobile-IP is an IETF standard providing continuous access to the Internet for mobile nodes, but it has the triangle routing problem. Also it has a performance degradation problem by massive packet loss during layer 3 handoff of mobile nodes. Especially, two IETF multicast support schemes for Mobile-IP do not guarantee the quality of realtime multimedia services because they have several problems such as long routing path, packet duplication(hi-directional tunneling) and massive packet loss(remote subscription). In this paper, we propose a lossless remote subscription scheme that guarantees the quality of realtime multimedia services over Mobile-IP. From the result of simulation, we verified that the proposed scheme in this paper can reduce the delay time of remote subscription by the effect of the low latency handoff scheme that is extended to apply to the multicast group management and it requires only 0.58% buffer spaces of the previously proposed lossless remote subscription scheme.

  • In this paper, we define the secure authentication model to provide a mobile node with global roaming service and integrate the Fast Handoff scheme with our approach to minimize the service latency. By starting the AAA(Authentication, Authorization and Account) procedure with Fast Handoff simultaneously when a roaming occurs, authentication latency is reduced significantly and provision of fast and seamless service is possible. The previous works such as IPsec(Internet Protocol Security), RR (Return Routability) and AAA define the procedures performed after the completion of Layer2 Handoff which leads us to study a way of providing the real time and QoS guaranteed service during this period. The proposed scheme is for this goal and when appling it to roaming environment it shows the cost reduction up to 55% and 17% for the case of the MN receiving the FBACK and not respectively before L2 Handoff occurs.

  • In this paper, we propose the method to use power-saving mode (PSM) applicable to non real-time traffic and PSM applicable to real-time traffic simultaneously, for VoIP traffic with silence suppression. The proposed method uses PSC II during talk-spurt interval of parties A and/or B and uses PSC I or probabilistic sleep interval decision (PSID) method during mutual silence interval, respectively. To evaluate the performance of hybrid PSM (HPSM) based on PSC II or PSID method, we present average buffering delay, energy consumption of mobile station and VoIP packet drop probability with simulation runs. Results shows that proposed HPSM decreases energy consumption of mobile station up to 25 % while satisfying the packet drop probability within QoS requirement in case of end-to-end VoIP connection.

  • There is a scheme where secondary users (SU) use predicted spectrum holes for primary users (PU) not to utilize for efficient utilization of the limited spectrum resources in cognitive radio networks. In this paper, we propose an adaptive call admission control framework that minimizes spectrum hopping call dropped probability (SHDP) for satisfying SU quality of service (QoS). The scheme is based on a call admission control (CAC), bandwidth prediction and adaptive bandwidth assignment. The prediction model predicts not only the number of spectrum holes, but requested bandwidth of SU spectrum hopping call, and then the CAC minimizes SHDP via an adaptive bandwidth assignment in resources not being enough for reservation. We bring Wiener prediction model to predict the resources. Simulations are conducted to compare the performance of proposed scheme with an existing, and show its ability of minimizing the SHDP.

  • Recently, the military of Korea has been establishing the next generation wireless tactical communication system so called Tactical Information Communication Network (TICN). A routing protocol for TICN transport networks has to be able to select a path with high survivality, reliability, and stability while accommodating as many flows as possible with minimum QoS guarantees. The OSPF(Open Short Path First) used widely is determined to be the routing protocol for TICN. With the typical deployment practices OSPF, however, it cannot satisfy the requirements of TICN. In this paper, we propose a cost function for OSPF and a way to tune the OSPF protocol parameters for the TICN transport networks. Through simulations, it is shown that the OSPF with the proposed cost function provides better performance than the OSPF in terms of both the services provided to the applications and the network resources utilization.

  • In this study, the optimal buffer size is calculated for seamless video playback on a mobile device. Buffer means the memory space for multimedia packet which arrives in mobile device for video play such as VOD service. If the buffer size is too large, latency time before video playback can be longer. However, if it is too short, playback service can be paused because of shortage of packets arrived. Hence, the optimal buffer size insures QoS of video playback on mobile devices. We model the process of buffering into a discret-time queueing model. Mean busy period length and mean waiting time of Geo/G/1 queue with N-policy is analyzed. After then, we uses the main performance measures to present numerical examples to decide the optimal buffer size on mobile devices. Our results enhance the user satisfaction by insuring the seamless playback and minimizing the initial delay time in VOD streaming process.

  • With the advent of high speed networking technology, computers connected to the high-speed networks tend to consume more of their CPU cycles to process data. So one of the solutions to improve the performance of the computers is to reduce the CPU cycles for processing the data. As the consumption of the CPU cycles is increased in proportion to the number of the packets per second to be processed, reducing the number of the packets per second by increasing the length of the packet is one of the solutions. In order to meet this requirement, two types of jumbo packets such as jumbograms and jumbo frames have already been standardized or being discussed. In case that the jumbograms and general packets are interleaved and scheduled together in a router, the jumbogrms may deteriorate the QoS of the general packets due to the transfer delay. They also frequently exhaust the memory with storing the huge length of the packets. This produces the congestion state easily in the router that results in the loss of the packets. In this paper, we analyze the problems in processing the jumbo packets and suggest a noble solution to overcome the problems.

  • In this paper, we propose a single antenna SSD(simultaneous single band duplex) system using turbo equalizer. The proposed system communicates simultaneously on single band. That is the proposed system is full-duplex system. The proposed system uses balanced feed network circuit to improve isolation in single antenna structure. Also, the proposed system uses RF(radio frequency) cancellation and digital cancellation to cancel self-interference. Additionally, the proposed system uses turbo equalizer to equalize ISI(inter-symbol interference) by harsh multipath fading and to collect bit errors by residual self-interference signals. By using turbo equalizer, the proposed system guarantees QoS(quality of service). In this paper, we uses Simulink simulation program to analyze performance of the proposed system. The simulation results confirm that proposed system can communicate simultaneously by using balanced feed network, RF cancellation, digital cancellation and turbo equalizer in harsh multipath channel on single band.

  • By the help of expansion of computer network and rapid growth of Internet, the information infrastructure is now able to provide a wide range of services. Especially open architecture - the inherent nature of Internet - has not only got in the way of offering QoS service, managing networks, but also made the users vulnerable to both the threat of backing and the issue of information leak. Thus, people recognized the importance of both taking active, prompt and real-time action against intrusion threat, and at the same time, analyzing the similar patterns of in-trusion already known. There are now many researches underway on Intrusion Detection System(IDS). The paper carries research on the in-trusion detection system which hired supervised learning algorithm and Fuzzy membership function especially with Neuro-Fuzzy model in order to improve its performance. It modifies tansigmoid transfer function of Neural Networks into fuzzy membership function, so that it can reduce the uncertainty of anomaly intrusion detection. Finally, the fuzzy logic suggested here has been applied to a network-based anomaly intrusion detection system, tested against intrusion data offered by DARPA 2000 Intrusion Data Sets, and proven that it overcomes the shortcomings that Anomaly Intrusion Detection usually has.

  • In this paper, the Packet CDMA Reservation ALOHA protocol is proposed to support the multi-traffic services such as voice and videophone services with handoff calls, high-rate data and low-rate data services efficiently on the multi-rate transmission in uplink cellular systems. The frame structure, composed of the access slot and the transmission slot, and the proposed access permission probability based on the estimated number of contending users for each service are presented to reduce MAI. The assured priority to the voice and the videophone handoff calls is given through higher access permission probability. And through the proposed code assignment scheme, the voice service can be provided without the voice packet dropping probability in the CDMA/PRMA protocols. The code reservation is allowed to the voice and the videophone services. The low-rate data service uses the available codes during the silent periods of voice calls and the remaining codes in the codes assigned to the voice service to utilize codes efficiently. The high-rate data service uses the assigned codes to the high-rate data service and the remaining codes in the codes assigned to the videophone service. Using the Markov-chain subsystem model for each service including the handoff calls in uplink cellular systems, the steady-state performances are simulated and analyzed. After a round of tests for the examples, through the proposed code assignment scheme and the access permission probability, the Packet CDMA Reservation ALOHA protocol can guarantee the priority and the constant QoS for the handoff calls even at large number of contending users. Also, the data services are integrated efficiently on the multi-rate transmission.
