  • Daoism is a very important subject that consists of oriental medicine(traditional east asia medicine). Among the many scriptures, The Zhouyi cantong qi (周易參同契, Token for Joining the Three in Accordance with the Book of Changes) is the main Chinese alchemical scripture. This book is composed with three kinds of subject, Zhouyi(周易, the Book of Changes), the Huanglao(黃老) Tradition and alchemy(鍊金, 爐火). The author's name is not signed but is concealed in the text. According to the traditional account, the legendary Han immortal from Guiji (會稽, in present-day Zhejiang, 古 浙江), Wei Boyang(魏伯陽), wrote it in the period between Emperor Shun and Emperor Huan of the Eastern Han (126-127 BC), after reading the Longhu jing (龍虎經, Scripture of the Dragon and Tiger). Later he transmitted it to Xu Congshi(徐從事), who appended a commentary, and to Chunyu Shutong(淳于叔通), who first circulated it in the world. While some features of this account provide significant details - especially about the reputed date of the text and about its formation having taken place in stages - the received Cantong qi(參同契) actually is not the product of a single generation of authors, but the result of several centuries of textual accretions as well as theory of three co-authorship by Wei Boyang(魏伯陽), Xu Congshi(徐從事), Chunyu Shutong(淳于叔通). It has over 6000 characters in four-word or five-word verses. Some parts of the book are in styles of prose and poem. Many scholars explain the title "cantongqi(參同契)", saying that "Can(參)" means three, "Tong(同)" means correspondence, and "Qi(契)" means unification. Through images of hexagrams of the Book of Changes, the book illustrates the thought of the Huanglao(黃老) Tradition and alchemy. Wei Boyang(魏伯陽) theorizes his own experience unifying the way of intercourse of Yin and Yang in the Book of Changes, the cultivation of spirit through spontaneity of the Huanglao(黃老) Tradition and the elixir refining of alchemy.

  • Fever is a rise in body temperature from any of a variety of causes. One might even feel a fever when body temperature is normal. An imbalance of Yin and Yang due to exogenous pathogenic factors or internal damage is usually considered the cause of fever in Oriental Medicine. Fever from deficiency of Qi is one of the major components of the theory of fever due to internal damage. Clinically, such cases are usually encountered along with wasting diseases and fever does not run high. The compliment of Qi is usually considered the appropriate treatment in these cases. Oriental Medical treatment was performed using herbal medicine after the cause of fever was diagnosed as deficiency of Qi. The herb medicine used in these cases was mainly Bojoongikki-tang(補中益氣湯). Through those treatments good results were seen. More clinical case reports are needed.

  • In the Oriental Medicine field the great three reference books are Hwantienaekyung(黃帝內徑, HJNK), Sihnnongbonchokyung(神農本草經, BCK) and Shanghanlun(SHR). HJNK has been a theory book regarded as a bible of the Oriental Medicine, BCK, a herbal book with 365 species of red letters noticed from Bonchokyungjipjoo(本草經集註) and SHR, very important clinical book with concrete prescriptions for the therapy of patients. Though these books were written by Chinese people ca. 2000 years ago, yet they are no doubt very important and effective ones in these days. Unfortunately they are handed down to all transmitted books for a long times because original ones were destroyed by fire and another troubles. In this study we have tried to extract three common terminological words and common theories from the prescription law by theoretical principles(理法方藥, clinical therapeutic mechanism) acquired through the comparative analysis of these three books. They are qi(氣), cold or heat(寒熱) and yin & yang(陰陽), and their practical basic theories have been evidenced through exterior & interior of body(表裏) and deficiency or exessiveness(虛實) by the heat of Sun. Also we would have realized that Oriental Medicine should be analyzed through various scientific techniques and clinical experiences, and necessarily unified to yin & yang monism from qi theory of the Sun in all human's life cycle(生老病死).

  • Objectives : To determine the level of medicine in the Earlier Han period through 『Liushi Bing Fang』. Methods : Original texts were collected from previously published studies on 『Liushi Bing Fang』 and books to reconstruct the text of 『Liushi Bing Fang』. Results & Conclusions : 151 tablets out of the entire 213, a total of 4,084 characters out of the entire 9,000 were collected. This amounts to about 45% of the entire 『Liushi Bing Fang』. Based on this finding, we could summarize the following. First, the concept of Qi is used in the context of illness, indicating the usage of Qi as a medical concept to be much earlier than previously known, as it appears in a herbal treatment text. Second, on Blood, similarly to 『Wushier Bing Fang』 and 『Wuwei Handai Yijian』, it refers to the physical blood as well as name of disease. Moreover, the concept of stagnated blood is mentioned as 'neiyu(內瘀)' in 『Liushi Bing Fang』, meaning that the doctors of the time held this concept and also had the medicinal knowledge to treat this condition. Third, within 『Liushi Bing Fang』, there are contents on the body parts each medicinal mainly treats. This indicates to the understanding that not only were they at the level to connect each medicinals to its mainly applicable disease, but they were able to connect the herbal medicinals to the inner constructions of the body. Based on these findings, the first text to provide the base to the attributive channel theory of herbal medicinals, where each medicinal's properties and effects are connected to the Zangfu and body parts, needs to be newly acknowledged as 『Liushi Bing Fang』 instead of 『Shennongbencaojing』 as previously known.

  • Objectives : As there was no sufficient research done on Sasang (four harms: 氣[qi], 血[blood], 痰[phlegm], and 鬱[congestion]), which serves as a precept in treatment of miscellaneous diseases, in contrast with 'Yang is always teeming whereas Yin is always scarce' and 'Sanghwa-ron', which are Judangye's major theories, I have come to work on it. I expect that with this, we can understand Judangye's medical theory and therapy for a variety of diseases. Methods : To begin with, I take a look at the definition of Sasang. And then, I make selections of theories and therapy related to Sasang from Gyeokchiyeoron(格致餘論) and Geumgweguhyeon(金匱鉤玄), which are Judangye's writings. My study follows the order of energy, blood, phlegm, and congestion. Results : Through Gyeokchiyeoron, I have learned more about Judangye's theory on how energy, blood, phlegm, and congestion cause diseases. And as for therapy, I have tapped into Geumgweguhyeon to use sagunja-tang(四君子湯) for drained energy, samul-tang(四物湯) for drained blood, ijin-tang(二陳湯) for phlegm, and wolguk-hwan(越鞠丸) for congestion, thus verifying the originality of Judangye's theory. Conclusions : "Judangye for miscellaneous diseases" was confirmed through his treatments for energy, blood, phlegm, and congestion. And his idea of Yang-eum(養陰 'nurturing yin') is now reflected in therapy for miscellaneous diseases, now serving as a study that provides a comprehensive understanding of Judangye's medical theories.

  • "Treatise on cold damage and miscellaneous disease" is a ancient formula records on keeping in good health, provided "Internal classic" is a ancient codes on keep in good health. It can be inferred that Zhang Zhongjing was a first inheritor of academic ideology from "formula followed by establishment of the therapeutic principles". Before writing and compiling the "Treatise on cold damage and miscellaneous disease", Zhang zhongjing got the essence of "Internal classic" after composing and utilizing "Plain Questions", "Miraculous pivot and classic of difficult issues", so all the theory foundations of "Treatise on cold damage and miscellaneous disease" came from "Internal classic". The keynote of internal classic lies in obeying the Yin and Yang in natural world and preserving and maintaining the yang-qi of human body to attain the longest life-span. Zhang assimilated the essence of "Internal classic" and then generated a new ideological system - "Treatise on cold damage and miscellaneous disease" when studying it. This article is to expound ideology inheritance of keeping in good health by protecting Yang in "Internal classic" from analyzing the usage of Guizhi in "treatise on cold damage diseases".

  • Sasang Constitutional Medicine is the constition medicine and the basis which constitution reveals is the distinction of the nature and emotion. Therefore the theory of the nature and emotion is the foundation which Sasang Constitution Medicine is coming into being. The author studied the progress that the distinction of the nature and emotion was formed and analized the phenomenon presented by the distinction of it as the principle of the movement of Yin and Yang. The results are following; 1. The beginning of the operation of the nature begins from some one part(cho ; 焦) among four part. That consists of the first factor of constitution-revelation. In accordance with the distinction of the nature, the second factor, that is the distinction of the emotion is determined and the united distinction of the nature and emotion presents the Sasang constitution. 2. The operation of the nature and emotion is the movement of Qi by the property of Yin and Yang and that is the phenomenon presented by the logical and scientifical law. 3. The ontology of Lee Je-ma is Qi-monism. 4. Four emotion(Sorrow, Anger, Joy, Presure) are not partional concept of the emotion but total concept which include all of it.

  • Chan and Qi (SCM 8/3 (2003) 209) developed an innovative measurement method that aggregates performance measures in a supply chain into an overall performance index. The method is useful and makes a significant contribution to supply chain management. Nevertheless, it can be cumbersome in computation due to its highly complex algorithmic fuzzy model. In aggregating the performance information, weights used by Chan and Qi-which aim to address the imprecision of human judgments-are incompatible with weights in additive models. Furthermore, the default assumption of linearity of its scoring procedure could lead to an inaccurate assessment of the overall performance. This paper addresses these limitations by developing an alternative measurement that takes care of the above. This research integrates three different approaches to multiple criteria decision analysis (MCDA)-the multiattribute value theory (MAVT), the swing weighting method and the eigenvector procedure-to develop a comprehensive assessment of supply chain performance. One case study is presented to demonstrate the measurement of the proposed method. The performance model used in the case study relies on the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model level 1. With this measurement method, supply chain managers can easily benchmark the performance of the whole system, and then analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of the supply chain.
