Interactive learning in oral and maxillofacial radiology

  • Purpose: The use of electronic tools in teaching is growing rapidly in all fields, and there are many options to choose from. We present one such platform, Learning Catalytics$^{TM}$ (LC) (Pearson, New York, NY, USA), which we utilized in our oral and maxillofacial radiology course for second-year dental students. Materials and Methods: The aim of our study was to assess the correlation between students' performance on course exams and self-assessment LC quizzes. The performance of 354 predoctoral dental students from 2 consecutive classes on the course exams and LC quizzes was assessed to identify correlations using the Spearman rank correlation test. The first class was given in-class LC quizzes that were graded for accuracy. The second class was given out-of-class quizzes that were treated as online self-assessment exercises. The grading in the self-assessment exercises was for participation only and not accuracy. All quizzes were scheduled 1-2 weeks before the course examinations. Results: A positive but weak correlation was found between the overall quiz scores and exam scores when the two classes were combined (P<0.0001). A positive but weak correlation was likewise found between students' performance on exams and on in-class LC quizzes (class of 2016) (P<0.0001) as well as on exams and online LC quizzes (class of 2017) (P<0.0001). Conclusion: It is not just the introduction of technological tools that impacts learning, but also their use in enabling an interactive learning environment. The LC platform provides an excellent technological tool for enhancing learning by improving bidirectional communication in a learning environment.

Evaluation of End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium-Geriatric Train-the-Trainer Program in Korea

  • Background: Few nurses are trained in palliative care for long-term care in Korea. The End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC)-Geriatric training program improves nurses' ability to promote palliative care for the elderly. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate nurses' satisfaction and knowledge following the attendance at the ELNEC-Geriatric curriculum on nurses' knowledge of palliative care. Methods: Nine ELNEC-Geriatric modules were presented to 203 interdisciplinary professionals on July 1 and 3, 2010, in Seoul, South Korea. The Palliative care quiz for nursing (PCQN) was used to evaluate nurses' knowledge. Of all the participants, 128 nurses were completed the questionnaire. Of these nurses, 45.2% were staff nurses and 73.4% were hospital nurses. Results: Approximately eight nine percent of the nurses reported previous experience in caring for dying patients and attending various hospice palliative care training programs. Overall program satisfaction of the participants was 4.03 on a 5-point scale, and their mean of the total PCQN score was 12.75 out of 20 after participating in ELNEC-Geriatric course, which was a significant improvement (p=.022) from the pretest. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrate that ELNEC-Geriatric curriculum was successfully implemented and significantly contributed to increasing the nurses' knowledge for palliative care in long-term care in Korea.

노인병원 간호사의 노인에 대한 지식과 태도 및 부정적 행동통제기술의 사용정도 간의 관계 (Relationships among Knowledge, Attitude, and Use of Negative Control Maintenance Techniques Toward Older Adults among Nurses Working in Geriatric Hospitals)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among knowledge, attitudes, and the use of negative control maintenance techniques toward older adults among nurses working in geriatric hospitals (n=86). Methods: Data were collected from April 4th to May 30th in 2006 by using questionnaires of Fact on Aging Quiz Part I, Aging Semantic Differential Scaling, and Control Maintenance Techniques. Results: The findings showed that the nurses displayed lack of knowledge concerning older adults and their average rate of correct answer was 45.6%. They also hold some negative bias and attitudes, especially in psychological and social aspects. The level of using negative control maintenance techniques in managing older patients' problematic behaviors was reported as the mean of 5.65 with a possible range of 0-40. Nurse's knowledge of older adults was positively associated with their attitudes toward older adults, but their knowledge and attitudes were not associated with the use of negative control maintenance techniques. Conclusion: It is necessary to provide educational programs for nurses that focus on a comprehensive understanding of aging with lifetime developmental perspectives. Further studies are needed to understand the factors associated with using negative control maintenance techniques and to evaluate the intervention programs in reducing the use of negative control maintenance techniques.

간호대학생의 노인에 대한 사회적 거리감 영향요인 (Factors Affecting the Social Distance toward Older Adults of Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the factors related to the social distance toward older adults in nursing college students. Methods: The participants comprised 137 students in a nursing college. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires in March 2019. The measurement instruments included social distance scales, the Fact on Aging Quiz (FAQ I), a 20-item semantic differential scale (to assess attitudes), and the perceived elderly stigma scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson's correlation coefficient, and a multiple regression analysis. Results: The total score for social distance toward older adults was 3.98±0.54 out of a maximum of 5. Social distance had a statistically significant relationship with knowledge (r=.20, p=.022), attitudes toward older adults (r=-.31, p<.001), and elderly stigma (r=-.27 p=.008). The factors affecting social distance were education in geriatrics (β=.33, p=.004), grade (β=-.29, p=.014), attitudes (β=-.21, p=.018), academic major satisfaction (β=.19, p=.028), and knowledge (β=.15, p=.048); the explanatory power of the model was 34%. Conclusion: There is a need for departmental efforts that nursing students acquire correct knowledge about the life and health of the elderly with the aging process and develop positive attitudes toward older adults through various experiences in gerontological nursing practicum and community senior-college student link programs.

한.일 사회복지사의 노화사실 인지정도와 노인에 대한 태도 비교연구 (A Comparative Study on the Social Worker's Knowledge about Facts on Aging and Attitude toward the Elderly between Korea and Japan)

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the social worker's knowledge about facts on aging and attitude toward the elderly between Korea and Japan. and to find out the variables that may influence their attitude. Four hundred and sixty two social workers working in nursing homes were given the questionnaire containing the Kyung San Facts on Aging Quiz to measure the level of knowledge about aging and Yoon (1988)'s scale to find the direction of attitude toward the elderly. The results of this study are analyzed as follows: (1) The Korean social worker's level of knowledge about aging was 63.0%, which was lower than Japanese social worker's level (67.6%). (2) Using 5 points scale. mean of the Korean social worker's attitude toward the elderly was 2.2 (44.8%), which was significantly different from the Japanese social worker's attitude 3.2 (63.4%). (3) Using multiple regression analysis, the social worker's level of knowledge about aging was the most significant predictor to explain the social worker's attitude toward the elderly. The other variables that are also statistically significant predictors of the social workers' attitude were country, personal experience with the elderly. and voluntary experience for the elderly. Especially the significant predictors to explain the Korean social workers' attitude were their levels of knowledge about aging. age, and classification of social worker license. On the other hand. the significant predictors to explain the Japanese social workers' attitude were their levels of knowledge about aging and periods of activity, Based on the research results, implications for practice and education methods for making social workers' attitude toward the elderly more positive are also suggested.

앱 인벤터를 활용한 예비 유아교사 학습 앱 개발 (Learning App Development using App Inventor for Preliminary Early Childhood Teacher)

  • 최근 ICT 기술 기반의 다양한 학습 도구를 이용해 학습 능력을 높이려고 하고 있다. 게임과 같은 응용프로그램을 강의식 수업과 병행하여 수업에서 대한 흥미를 유발하고 스마트 폰 앱을 학습 도구로 활용하여 학습 효과를 높이고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 조기 코딩 교육을 통해서 창의적 사고능력, 문제해결 능력, 논리적 사고능력를 키우고자 노력하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 앱 인벤터를 활용한 학습 및 퀴즈 앱으로 수업을 진행하고 개발된 앱을 설명한 후 앱 관련 설문을 진행하였다. 개발된 앱을 활용하여 예비 유아교사에게 교육철학에 대한 학습을 진행 하였고 그 앱에 대한 설명과 앱 인벤터를 활용하여 유아 교육에 활용할 수 있도록 교육하였다. 설문을 통해서 학습 효과 및 유아 교육에서 활용 의사를 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통해서 앱 인벤터로 개발된 앱으로 유아 교사 학습 능력 향상 및 유아 교육에서 코딩을 활용할 수 있도록 하고자 한다.

수학 교과 재량활동에 대한 학습자료 개발 및 적용에 관한 연구 -8-가 단계를 중심으로- (A Study on the Development and Application of the Learning Material for Mathematics Optional Activities. - Focused on 8-ga Grade -)

  • This study purported to develop the learning materials for the optional activities of mathematics, apply them to the students, and examine the effect on the learner's interest and attitude to mathematics. In order to conduct this study, the learning materials for the mathematics optional activities were developed according to the units of grade 8-Ga and the developed learning materials of the mathematics optional activities were inputted in two classes for 18 units after the second grade middle school students in Daejeon area received the questionnaire regarding the learning attitude and the interest in the mathematics. After that, the questionnaire regarding the learning attitude and the interest in the mathematics and the examination regarding the response to the application of the learning materials for mathematics optional activities were conducted and did t-test. The results of the study as follows : First The learning materials applied exciting games for mathematics optional activities aroused interest in mathematics and made the learners have confidence in mathematics learning. Second, There was affirmative change in the interest and attitude to the mathematics learning with the application of the mathematics optional learning materials. Third The leaning materials of the mathematics optional activities made the learners think mathematical questions connected with the real life and try various ways to solve the questions. Here are some suggestions to study the development of the learning materials such as story, game, quiz and craft. First it is necessary to develop the learning materials applied the games or the real life matters connected with mathematics for all grade middle school students and use them in the mathematics optional activities. Second, many students feel a great interest in animation. moving picture, sound graphic, etc. If the multimedia learning materials included the real life matters or the games are developed, the learners will feel more interest in mathematics. Third, the systematic and economical support is continuously needed in order that teachers are given much time to study and the opportunity to attend the training course for the understanding of the optional activities and the development of the various learning materials.

학습장애아의 읽기 능력 향상을 위한 PREP 기반의 모바일 학습시스템 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of a PREP-based Mobile System for Improving Reading Skills of Children with Learning Disabilities)

  • 학습장애아의 읽기 능력을 위한 PREP(PASS Reading Enhancement Program)는 학습장애아를 대상으로 한 관찰을 바탕으로 이론이 정립되었고, 인지기능에 비인지적 요소인 주의집중을 포함시키고 있어 여러 연구를 통해서 그 효과가 입증되었다. 그러나 PREP를 활용한 모바일 시스템의 연구는 초기 단계에 있어 본 연구는 인지 이론을 바탕으로 한 프로그램인 PREP를 활용하여 모바일 학습 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 본 시스템의 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연속적 과제와 동시적 과제를 학습 내용으로 하여 학습 전략을 발전시키며 읽기 기능을 향상시키는데 중점을 두었다. 둘째, 학습자의 특성을 반영하여 흥미를 유지할 수 있도록 퀴즈의 형식을 도입하고 학습자의 접근성과 이동성, 개별성을 강화한 시스템을 고려하여 설계하고 구현하였다. 셋째, 시스템을 사용 시 학습자의 수준에 따라 다른 단계로 접근이 가능하며 완전학습을 지원할 수 있는 인터페이스를 구현하여 학습자의 유의미한 읽기 능력이 가능하도록 설계하고 구현하였다. 본 시스템을 학습장애의 초등학생에게 적용한 결과, 읽기활동에 대한 태도와 읽기 능력이 모바일 학습 시스템을 적용하기 전보다 향상되어 PREP 프로그램의 효과성이 입증되었다.

  • 대학에서는 사이버 교육을 통해 온라인 쪽지 시험을 보거나 온라인 학습을 한다. 그러나, 컴퓨터가 없거나 인터넷이 되지 않는 곳에 있는 다수의 학생들이 온라인 쪽지 시험을 볼 수 가 없는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 최근에는 많은 대학생들이 스마트폰을 가지고 있으며, 어느 곳에서든 스마트폰을 이용하여 웹 서핑, 뉴스, 메신저 등 다양하게 활용하고 있다. 또한, 스마트폰을 통하여 학생들이나 직장인 들은 필요한 서적을 PDF로 담아 학습을 있다. 스마트폰의 장점은 휴대하기 좋고 언제 어디서든 사용할 수 있다는 특징을 가지고 있다. 스마트폰을 통해 어디서든 온라인 학습하고 온라인 쪽지시험을 볼 수 있도록 본 논문에서는 하이브리드 앱을 이용한 스마트폰을 통한 온라인 쪽지 시험뿐만 아니라 본인의 점수와 성취도를 실시간으로 확인 할 수 있는 시스템을 제안 하였다.

사용자의 인터렉션 향상을 위한 EPUB eBook 변환 기법 (EPUB eBook Converting Schemes for Improving User Interactions)

  • 기존 책 문서인 PDF문서를 전자책에서 사용 가능하도록 전자책의 표준 형태로 변환하는 과정이 필요하다. PDF문서를 전자책의 표준 형태인 EPUB으로 변환할 때, 인쇄 색상 표현방법인 CMYK를 디지털 색상 RGB 형태로 변환하는 과정에서 형태의 차이로 인해 색감이 제대로 변환되지 못하는 문제점이 있다. 그리고 EPUB은 동영상, 자바스크립트 등을 이용해서 시각적인 효과를 줄 수 있으며, 사용자와의 상호작용이 가능하다. 본 연구는 PDF를 EPUB으로 변환 시 발생할 수 있는 문제점에 대해서 연구를 하였다. (1) 첫 번째는 색감을 잃지 않도록 ICC 프로파일을 이용한 변환 연구를 수행하였다. (2) 두 번째는 변환 과정에서 레이아웃 구성에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. (3) 세 번째는 전자책 독자들과 상호작용할 수 있는 시각적인 효과를 제공하기 위하여, 텍스트 중 특정 부분을 인식하여 시각적인 효과를 주는 연구를 수행하였으며 기존 책에서의 퀴즈를 추출하여 변환 시 자바스크립트를 이용한 퀴즈 플랫폼 프로토타입을 구현하였다. 또한 PDF문서를 EPUB에 기반 한 전자책 문서로 변환 후 사용자 평가를 통해 변환유효성 및 편의성을 검증하였다.
