In this paper, ECG based cardiac disease diagnosis models are developed. Conventionally, ECG monitoring equipments can only measure and store ECG signals and they always require medical doctor's diagnosis actions which are not desirable for continuous ambulatory monitoring and diagnosis healthcare systems. In this paper, two kinds of neural based self cardiac disease diagnosis engines are developed and tested for four kinds of diseases, sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, left bundle branch block and right bundle branch block. For diagnosis engines, error backpropagation neural network (BP) and probabilistic neural network (PNN) were applied. Five signal features including heart rate, QRS interval, PR interval, QT interval, and T wave types were selected for diagnosis characteristics. To show the validity of proposed diagnosis engine, MIT-BIH database were used to test. Test results showed that BP based diagnosis engine has 71% of diagnosis accuracy which is superior to accuracy of PNN based diagnosis engine. However, PNN based diagnosis engine showed superior diagnosis accuracy for complex-disease diagnoses than BP based diagnosis engine.
An ECG data compression algorithM using max-min slope update is proposed and a real time 3 channel ECG transmission system is implemented using the proposed algorithm. In order to effectively compress ECG data, we compare a threshold value with the max-min slope difference (MMSD) which is updated at each sample values. If this MMSD value is smaller than the threshold value, then the data is compressed. Conversely, when the MMSD value is larger than threshold value, the data is transmitted after storing the value and the length between the data which is beyond previous threshold level. As a result, it can accurately compress both the region of QRS, P, and T wave that has fast-changing and the region of the base line that slope is changing slow. Therefore, it Is possible to enhance the compression rate and the percent roms difference. In addition, because of the simplicity, this algorithm is more suitable for real-time implementation.
This paper describes the design of ECG data preprocess module for the ECG signals. This module process the data obtained from two channels. It is composed of the AID converter, QRS detector, one chip micro-computer and memory. This module performs the following functions;digital filtering, R wave detection and determination of reference point for the ST segment. The measured points are transfered to the next data module by the interrupt process. This preprocessor data module is available to the basis for the parallel data processing for the real time automatic diagnosis.
In order to detect the influence of overdosed combelen on the Korean native goats, 5mg of combelen per kg of body weight were injected intramusculary. Clinical findings, electrocardiograms and some blood chemical values were determined and the results obtained were as follows: 1. After administration of 5 mg/kg dose of combelen the animals were moderately depressed and often tried to take sitting position but showed moderate response to pinching stimulation of skin. 2. Body temperature and respiratory rate were not suppressed but heart rate were accelerated during sedative stage. 3. During sedation a slight change in the QRS complex and T wave appeared but it was not significant. 4. Hemoglobin concentration showed a tendency to decrease. SGOT activities were markedly increased 24 hours after administration of combelen and BUN values were slightly lowered. Blood sugar values were markedly elevated during sedative stage.
We have developed a high-$T_c$ SQUID magnetocardiogram (MCG) system for small laboratory animals. White noise of the measurement system was about 30 fT/$Hz^{1/2}$ when measured in a magnetically shielded room. We optimized the measurement position to obtain clear MCG wave from rat's small heart by using grid measurements. With the optimization, the MCG signal was successfully detected with the peak amplitude of about 30 pT. We could observe well defined P-, QRS-, and T-waves from the rat MCG. The results suggest that the developed system has a strong potential to monitor the progress of the heart disease model by using a laboratory rat.

This paper proposes a new method to measure the ECG signal from the driver. The ECG signal is often measured in the room. But it is mixed with many kinds of noise when we measure it during the vehicle moving. We classified noise occupied most many parts as the experimental among them. And we designed one suitable filter for each noise. It used ALE(Adaptive Line Enhancement) to remove the noise occurred to electromagnetic wave in vehicle. To remove the noise occurred to steering or vibration of vehicle, we used Wavelet transformation after ALE(preprocessing filter).
Magnetocardiography (MCG) is a device to measure the magnetic field from the heart. It is a noninvasive device and takes only few minutes to record magnetocardiogram from a subject. In this study, we compared the difference of MCG data recorded from 56 normal subjects in early twenties (28 males and 28 females, mean $age=21.0{\pm}1.6$ years) and 36 elderly subjects (20 males and 16 females, mean $age=61.9{\pm}6.9$ years) for the analysis of the age and gender difference. A total of 24 parameters used in the analysis were derived from QRS complex, R-wave, T-wave, and ST-T period. As a result, seven parameters including maximum current angle and map angle showed the significant difference (p<0.01 and p<0.05, respectively) between young males and young females. Significant difference (p<0.05) between elderly males and elderly females was found from a parameter, pole distance at T-wave peak. In the comparison of age difference, seven parameters regarding current moment, pole distance, and dynamics showed the significant difference between young and elderly males. Eight parameters also showed significant difference (p<0.05) between two younger and elderly female groups. Results showed that parameters regarding current moment, pole distance, and dynamics might be changed when people get older. In conclusion, gender and age difference should be considered when MCG data are analyzed for certain parameters.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the reference value for electrocardiogram in healthy captive raccoon dogs. Forty-one free-ranging adult raccoon dogs rescued from Wildlife rescue centre, Kangwon National University were enrolled in this study. The 6-lead electrocardiogram was obtained in all raccoon dogs without any chemical restraints. The mean heart rate was $146.10{\pm}43.31$ beats/min (95% confidence interval 132.84~159.36 beats/min). The mean respiration rate was $35.73{\pm}11.56$ breaths/min (95% confidence interval 32.19~39.27 breaths/min). The mean systolic blood pressure was $136{\pm}29.26$ mmHg (95% confidence interval 127.99~145.91 mmHg). Electrocardiographical features were also evaluated in all raccoon dogs. The mean duration and amplitude of P-wave were $38.2{\pm}4.0$ ms (range 28-40 ms) and $0.128{\pm}0.039$ mV (range 0.09~0.20). The mean duration and amplitude of QRS complexes were $48.5{\pm}7.2ms$ (range 36-60 ms) and $1.330{\pm}0.650$ mV (range 0.15~2.30). The range of the mean electrical (QRS) axis was $-91^{\circ}{\sim}+96^{\circ}$ ($10^{\circ}{\sim}60^{\circ}$; 95% of confidence interval). The mean corrected QT (QTc) interval was $273.7{\pm}32.7ms$ (range 212-333 ms), while the mean PR interval was $76.1{\pm}10.0ms$ (range 50-82 ms). To the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to provide references in electrocardiogram (ECG) in healthy captive raccoon dogs.
The ST-segment that the beginning part of T wave is the important diagnostic parameter to finding myocardial ischemia. Abnormal ST appears in two types. One is the level change, and the other is the pattern change. In this paper, we describe the monitoring of abnormal ST using PC based system. Hardware of this system consists of transmitter, receiver and PC. The function of transmitter is measuring ECG in three channels which are selected manually and transmitting the data to receiver by digital radio way. Connection with receiver and PC is by RS232C, and the data received on the PC is analyzed automatically by ECG analysis algorithm and saved to file. In the algorithm part for detecting abnormal ST, ST-segments are approximated by a polynomial. This method can detect all of the deviation and pattern change of ST-segment regardless the change in the heart rate or sampling rate. To gain algorithm reliability, the method rejects distorted polynomial approximation by calculation the difference between the approximated ST-segment and original ST-segment. In pre-signal processing, the wavelet transformation separates high frequency bands including QRS complex from the original ECG. Consequently, the process improves the performance of detecting each feature points.
The present study was undertaken to evaluate the protective effect of ethanol (EtAS), ethyl acetate (EAAS) and aqueous (AQAS) extracts of Argyreia speciosa (AS) roots against Isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial infarction in rats. The animals were exposed to isoproterenol (200 mg/kg. s.c) twice at an interval of 24 hrs. Cardioprotective effect was assessed by observing ECG parameters, serum marker enzymes and histopathology of the heart. Pretreatment of EAAS, and EtAS (200 mg/kg) resulted in a significant (P < 0.001) increase in P wave, QRS complex and R-R interval, whereas heart rate, QT interval and cardiac cycle were maintained near to normal values. EtAS and EAAS showed significant (P < 0.05; P < 0.001) reduction in all the tested diagnostic markers compared to ISO treated group. Histological studies on the structural changes of heart tissue supported the protective activity of AS. The result suggest that treatment of AS prior to ISO has a significant role in protecting the animals from ISO induced myocardial infarction.
