  • A coupled three-dimensional pile group analysis method was developed by considering complex behavior of sub-structures (pile-soil-cap) which included soil nonlinearity and the behavior of super-structure (pier). As an intermediate analysis method between FBPier 3.0 and Group 0.0, it took advantages of each method. Among the components of a pile group, individual piles were modeled with stiffness matrices of pile heads and soils with nonlinear load-transfer curves (t-z, q-z and p-y curves). A pile cap was modeled with modified four-node flat shell elements and a pier with three-dimensional beam element, so that a unified analysis could be possible. A nonlinear analysis method was proposed in this study with a mixed incremental and iteration techniques. The proposed method for a pile group subjected to axial and lateral loads was compared with othe. analytical methods (i.e., Group 6.0 and FBPier 3.0). It was found that the proposed method could predict the complex behavior of a pile group well, even though piles were modelled simply in this study by using pile head stiffness matrices which were different from the method introduced in FBPier 3.0.

  • A virtual simulation test program to carry out the handling qualities of unmanned Rotorcraft has developed by using the MATLAB GUIDE(Graphic User Interface Development Environment). The handling quality evaluation program based on ADS-33E contributes to design the flight control system and to evaluate handling qualities. In addition, Linear Quadratic Tracker with Integrator(LQTI) attitude controller based on Linear Quadratic Regulator(LQR) for to rotorcraft BO-105C and the effects of the handling qualities is analyzed change to weight matrices of the Q and R.

  • This paper presents an experimental investigation of a recently developed Kronecker Product (KP) method to determine the type, location, and intensity of structural damage from an identified state-space model of the system. Although this inverse problem appears to be highly nonlinear, the system mass, stiffness, and damping matrices are identified through a series of transformations, and with the aid of the Kronecker product, only linear operations are involved in the process. Since a state-space model can be identified directly from input-output data, an initial finite element model and/or model updating are not required. The test structure is a two-degree-of-freedom torsional system in which mass and stiffness are arbitrarily adjustable to simulate various conditions of structural damage. This simple apparatus demonstrates the capability of the damage detection method by not only identifying the location and the extent of the damage, but also differentiating the nature of the damage. The potential applicability of the KP method for structural damage identification is confirmed by laboratory test.

  • A fast precise integration method (FPIM) is proposed for solving structural dynamics problems. It is based on the original precise integration method (PIM) that utilizes the sparse nature of the system matrices and especially the physical features found in structural dynamics problems. A physical interpretation of the matrix exponential is given, which leads to an efficient algorithm for both its evaluation and subsequently the solution of large-scale structural dynamics problems. The proposed algorithm is accurate, efficient and requires less computer storage than previous techniques.

  • The PLL equivalent augmented system incorporated with state feedback is proposed in this paper. The optimal value of filter time constant of loop filter in the phase-locked loop control system and the optimal state feedback gain designed by using linear quadratic regulator approach are derived. This approach allows the PLL control system to employ the large value of the phase-frequency gain $K_d$ and voltage control oscillator gain $K_o$. In designing, the structure of phase-locked loop control system will be rearranged to be a phase-locked loop equivalent augmented system by including the structure of loop filter into the process and by considering the voltage control oscillator as an additional integrator. The designed controller consisting of state feedback gain matrix K and integral gain $k_1$ is an optimal controller. The integral gain $k_1$ related to weighting matrices q and R will be an optimal value for assigning the filter time constant of loop filter. The experimental results in controlling the second-order lag pressure process using two types of loop filters show that the system response is fast without steady-state error, the output disturbance effect rejection is fast and the tracking to step changes is good.

  • In this paper, we introduce an improved algorithm for computing matrix triple product that commonly arises in primal-dual optimization method. In computing $P=AHA^{t}$, we devise a single pass algorithm that exploits the block diagonal structure of the matrix H. This one-phase scheme requires fewer floating point operations and roughly half the memory of the generic two-phase algorithm, where the product is computed in two steps, computing first $Q=HA^{t}$ and then P=AQ. The one-phase scheme achieved speed-up of 2.04 on Intel Itanium II platform over the two-phase scheme. Based on memory latency and modeled cache miss rates, the performance improvement was evaluated through performance modeling. Our research has impact on performance tuning study of complex sparse matrix operations, while most of the previous work focused on performance tuning of basic operations.
