Gender Relations and Psychological Well-Being Among the Elderly (노년기 젠더관계와 심리적 복지감: 유배우 노인의 성역할태도와 가사노동분담의 영향에 대하여)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate (1) the relationship between gender-role attitude and psychological well-being related to the division of household labor and (2) the effect of congruency between gender-role attitude and the division of household labor on psychological well-being for the elderly. In this study, independent variable is gender-role attitude, mediating variable is the division of household labor and dependent variable is psychological well-being. Psychological well-being consists of depression and happiness. The hypotheses of this study are as follows: 1) Gender-role attitude affects psychological well-being of the elderly. The more egalitarian gender-role attitude, the higher degree of psychological well-being, whereas the more traditional gender-role attitude, the lower degree of psychological well-being. 2) The division of household labor influences psychological well-being of the elderly. The higher degree of division of household labor is likely to show the higher degree of psychological well-being. 3) The congruency between gender-role attitude and the division of household labor affects psychological well-being. As the relationship between gender-role attitude and the division of household labor is more congruent. psychological well-being increases. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1) There is no relation between gender-role attitude and psychological well-being for the elderly. 2) The division of household labor affects psychological well-being for husband. The higher degree of division of household labor, the higher degree of psychological well-being. The result shows that husbands are involved in household labor involuntarily. 3) Congruency between gender-role attitude and the division of household labor affects psychological well-being. As the relationship between gender-role attitude and the division of household labor is more congruent, the degree of depression decreases. 4) Wives participate in most of household labor. Gender segregation in household labor is found in elderly family. 5) Health, income, network of children or sibling, and community network affect psychological well-being. The healthier, higher income and stronger network are likely to show the higher degree of psychological well-being.

National Research Trends Regarding Use of the Four Pillars of Destiny in the Counseling Realm (상담 장면에서의 명리의 활용에 대한 국내 연구 동향 분석)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate current research trends of Four Pillars of Destiny and verify its values and potential in the counselling scene, as the Four Pillars of Destiny's territory has been expanding to counselling, medical and psychiatric realm nowadays. Methods: The studies were searched from psychotherapy to general consultation, directly or indirectly related to counseling and Four Pillars of Destiny. Twenty-one published research studies were selected for analysis. The studies were categorized into 7 groups, meta-analysis, comparison with other personality tests, user's trend analysis, utilization in job counseling, disease prediction study, utilization in treatment counseling, and use in Korean medicine. Results: The selected studies attempted to expand Four Pillars of Destiny's usage through combination with other fields such as artificial intelligence, Korean medicine, and personality test. Furthermore by analyzing Four Pillars of Destiny itself to extract its key elements in counseling, such as therapeutic counseling factors and occupational counseling factors. Conclusions: At present, there are no standard use of Four Pillars of Destiny in counseling scene, for no large-scale research has been conducted or completed on this subject. This current status quo leads this paper to end up just understanding the counseling factors and possibilities of Four Pillars of Destiny rather than its psychological theory and clinical effect. However, this research trend analysis will be helpful in preparing future studies investigating Four Pillars of Destiny's counseling effect, application in the counseling scene and its psychological theory. Also, further studies, including confirmation of the theory through the operational definition, prospective research, control study, statistical technique are required in order to evaluate Four Pillars of Destiny's psychological theory and its effects to verify its use in clinical scenes.

A review study on the impact of divorce upon children's well-being (이혼이 자녀에게 미치는 효과에 관한 개관 연구)

  • The present study reviewed the study on the impact of divorce upon children's well-being presented in both abroad and Korea. The criteria for the selection of the study for the review are as follow; The study must have a comparative child group of non-divorced family and include at least one psychological variable that are measured quantitatively. Two studies are found in Korea and 92 in abroad. Both the domestic studies and foreign studies indicate the lower self-esteems of children of divorced families than those of children of non divorced families. In domestic study, the sociable was found as the variable that give a negative impact to the children of divorced families among elementary population but not to the children of middle school. In contrast, the studies of foreign showed the negative impact of the seven psychological variables included in the studies upon children of divorced families. The study suggests that the impacts of divorce on the children will be more pronounced in Korea than in abroad and the necessities of the studies in the future in Korea.

  • This study examined the psychological characteristics of the Koreans Uzzul(Boasting) about the impact on consumer attitudes about the brand. Elated about the psychological characteristics of Korean literature on the basis of an analysis of these Koreans Uzzul(Boasting) psychological characteristics were examined for luxury consumer attitudes and whether any relationship was confirmed. Firstly, the psychological characteristics of Koreans Uzzul(Boasting) were six sub-factors. Second, consumer attitudes about the luxury factor analysis was the result of two factors. Third, the psychological characteristics of Koreans Uzzul(Boasting) impact on consumer attitudes about the brand. Arrogant sense and self-esteem factors had a significant impact on hedonic attitudes. In addition, the relative recognition factors had an impact on the quality trust attitude. The results of this study did not cover the face of conspicuous luxury-related studies have mainly dealt with the psychological variables. Whereas Koreans Uzzul(Boasting) psychological characteristics based on research in progress by virtue of the fact that it is worth. Offered practitioners to consider the characteristics of the target group of Uzzul(Boasting) psychological implications for the future designer to create ads.

The Mediating Effects of Perceived Value of Work and Psychological Ownership for Effects of Procedural Justice and Job Significance on the Employees' Job Satisfaction: Focused on Hospital Nurses (절차공정성과 직무중요성이 조직구성원의 직무만족에 미치는 영향에 대한 일가치감과 심리적 주인의식의 매개효과 검증: 간호사를 대상으로)

  • The purpose of this study includes: Firstly, to examine the effects of procedural justice and job significance on value of work, psychological ownership, and job satisfaction. Secondly, to examine the mediating effect of the value of work, psychological ownership on the relationship between procedural justice, job significance and job satisfaction. For the study, the data was collected from convenient sample of 273 nurses at university hospital in a city to test theoretical model and its hypotheses. All data collected from the survey were analyzed using with SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. This study reports findings as followed: first, the relationship between the procedural justice and the value of work is positively related. Second, there was also a positive correlation between the procedural justice and the psychological ownership. Third, there was also a positive correlation between the job significance and the value of work. Fourth, the relationship between the job significance and the psychological ownership is positively related. Fifth, there was also a positive correlation between the value of work and the psychological ownership. Sixth, there was also a positive correlation between the procedural justice and the job satisfaction. Seventh, the relationship between the job significance and the job satisfaction is positively related. Eighth, there was also a positive correlation between the value of work and the job satisfaction. Ninth, there was also a positive correlation between the psychological ownership and the job satisfaction. Finally, the value of work and psychological ownership played as a partial mediator on the relationship between procedural justice and job satisfaction. Also, the value of work and psychological ownership played as a partial mediator on the relationship between job significance and job satisfaction. Based on these findings, the limitations of the study and some directions for future studies were presented.

The Effects of Mindfulness on Perceived Stress and Psychological Well-Being in Parents with 3 to 5-Year-Old Children (마음챙김이 유아기 자녀를 둔 부모의 스트레스 및 심리적 안녕감에 미치는 영향)

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of daily mindfulness in parents with 3 to 5-year-old children on their stress and psychological well-being. Methods: Based on the previous studies, this study established a research model in which parent's mindfulness affects their psychological well-being by the mediation of stress, and verified the relationship between them using 283 parents data set. Results: First, mindfulness and psychological well-being in the ages of 40s was significantly higher than the 20s~30s. Second, parent's mindfulness and psychological well-being showed high positive correlation, and stress showed high negative correlation with mindfulness and psychological well-being. Third, it was verified that mindfulness not only directly affects psychological well-being but also indirectly influences psychological well-being by reducing their stress. Conclusions: This study suggests that daily mindfulness in parents with 3 to 5-year-old children is effective in managing their stress and improving their psychological well-Being.

Mother's psychological well-being and children's problems behavior : Mediating effects of Coping with Children's Negative Emotions (어머니의 심리적 안녕감과 유아의 문제행동 : 자녀의 부정적 정서에 대한 어머니 대처양식의 매개효과)

  • This study examines the relationship between a mother's psychological well-being and children's problematic behavior(withdrawal, depression anxiety, aggression and emotional instability). In order to expand the study on the relationships, special attention was given to the possible mediator effects of mother's coping style with children's negative emotions. The subjects were 305 mothers with children 4-5 years old residing in the cities of Cheonan and Seongnam. It was found that mother's psychological well-being was significantly related to the level of children's withdrawal, depression anxiety, aggression and emotional instability. The mother's coping style with children's negative emotions were also significantly related to the mother's psychological well-being. In addition the mother's coping style with children's negative emotions was found to be a significant mediator of the relationship between mother's psychological well-being and children's. This was especially so for internal problems behavior as like withdrawal, depression anxiety and emotional instability that were perfectly mediated by the mother's coping style with children's negative emotions. Aggression, external problems behavior was partially mediated by the mother's coping style.

Effects of Fathers' Parental Involvement and Social Support on Parenting Stress of Mothers with Infants: Mothers' Psychological Characteristics as a Mediator (아버지 양육참여와 사회적 지지가 영아기 어머니의 양육스트레스에 미치는 영향: 어머니 심리특성의 매개효과)

  • This study had two purposes. One was to investigate the interrelations between the mothers' parenting stress and fathers' parental involvement, social support, and the mothers' psychological characteristics. The other was to prove that the fathers' parental involvement and social support have an effect on the mothers' parenting stress, and that these effects are mediated by the mothers' psychological characteristics. For this purpose, the data of 1,754 2-year-olds and their mothers from the 2010 Panel Study on Korean Children were analyzed using PASW ver. 21.0 and AMOS ver. 23.0 to carry out descriptive statistics, correlation co-efficiencies, and structural equation model, along with the Sobel test. The results showed that the mothers' parenting stress had significant, negative correlations with the fathers' parental involvement, social support, and mothers' positive psychological characteristics. The findings also proved that not only the fathers' parental involvement, but also social support, had significant effects on the mothers' parenting stress, and that the mothers' positive psychological characteristics mediated these relations.

The Mediating Effect of Psychological Ownership on the Relationship between Job Characteristics and Service Quality (직무특성과 서비스품질의 관계에서 심리적 주인의식의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study includes: the relationships between job characteristics and service quality and the mediating effect of the psychological ownership on the relationship between job characteristics and service quality. In order to verify the relationships and mediating effect, data were collected from 255 nurses in a university hospital at Ulsan city to test theoretical model and its hypotheses. All data collected from the survey were analyzed using with SPSS 18.0. and AMOS 18.0. This study reports findings as follows: first, the relationship between the job characteristics and the psychological ownership is positively related. Second, there was also a positive correlation between the psychological ownership and service quality. Third, the relationship between the job characteristics and the service quality is positively related. Finally, the psychological ownership played as a partial mediator on the relationship between job characteristics and service quality. Based on these findings, the implications and the limitations of the study were presented including some directions for future studies.

Parental and Partner Acceptance-Rejection, Behavioral Control, and Psychological Adjustment Among Korean College Students (대학생이 지각한 부모 및 부모 이외 애착대상의 수용-거부, 행동통제와 심리적 적응 간의 관계)

  • This study examined (1) whether romantic partners' or close friends' acceptance-rejection perceived by college students is related to their psychological adjustment indicated by hostility/aggression, dependency, negative self-esteem, negative self-competence, emotional unresponsiveness, emotional instability, and negative world view; (2) whether parents' behavioral control in childhood and romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control perceived by college students are related to their psychological adjustment; (3) how parents' behavioral control and acceptance-rejection in childhood perceived by college students are related with each other; and (4) how romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control and acceptance-rejection perceived by college students are related with each other. The subjects were 163 college students enrolled in universities located in Seoul or Kyungki-do in Korea. The results indicated that college students' perceptions of their romantic partners' or close friends' acceptance-rejection are related to their psychological adjustment, that college students' perceptions of their parents' behavioral control and romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control are related to their psychological adjustment, and that college students' perceptions of parents' behavioral control are related to their perceptions of parents' hostility/aggression, indifference, and rejection and the results were the same for the romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control and acceptance-rejection.
