In this study, I hoped to reveal the understanding of pre-service elementary teachers about proportional reasoning and the traits of proportional reasoning strategy used by pre-service elementary teachers. The results of this study are as follows. Pre-service elementary teachers should deal with various proportional reasoning tasks and make a conscious effort to analyze proportional reasoning task and investigate various proportional reasoning strategies through teacher education program. It is necessary that pre-service elementary teachers supplement the lacking tasks such as qualitative reasoning and distinction between proportional situation and non-proportional situation. Finally, It is suggested to preform the future research on teachers' errors and mis-conceptions of proportional reasoning.

This paper presents a stochastic partial inventory model for the situation in which demand is deterministic, lead time follows normal distribution and backorder ratio during the stockout period decreases exponentially according to the length of backorder period. In this situation, an objective function is formulated to minimize the average annual cost, which is the sum of the ordering, carrying time-proportional backordering, quantity-proportional backordering and lost sales costs. And then the procedure of iterative solution method for the model is developed to find optimal reorder point and order quantity and numerical example to illustrate the proposed method is presented.
The objective of this paper is to develop a powered wheelchair controller based on EMG for users with high-level spinal cord injury using a proportional control scheme. An advantage of EMG is relative convenience of acquisition by a surface electrode to users. Direction information can be easily extracted from two EMG channels and force information can be acquired by proportional relationship between the amplitude of EMG and user's power, respectively. Pattern classification algorithm is a threshold method with a supervised learning process. Furthermore, the emergency situation can be avoided using an interrupt function. We evaluated the performance of powered wheelchair controller by navigating a pre-defined path with three non-handicapped people. The results show the feasibility of EMG as an input interface for powered wheelchair and other devices for the seriously disabled.

In this paper, we propose a time-varying proportional navigation guidance law that determines the proportional navigation gain in real-time according to the operating situation. When intercepting a target, an unidentified evasion strategy causes a loss of optimality. To compensate for this problem, proper proportional navigation gain is derived at every time step by solving an optimal control problem with the inferred evader's strategy. Recently, deep reinforcement learning algorithms are introduced to deal with complex optimal control problem efficiently. We adapt the actor-critic method to build a proportional navigation gain network and the network is trained by the Proximal Policy Optimization(PPO) algorithm to learn an evasion strategy of the target. Numerical experiments show the effectiveness and optimality of the proposed method.

This study focuses on understanding proportionality, in particular, what constitutes relational understanding of a:b=c:d, which is called proportional expression. The meanings of a:b=c:d are analyzed and some suggestions are offered for improving the teaching and learning of it. The equation a:b=c:d has three different meanings. First, it represents two different structures in one proportional situation. Second, it represents a common structure in two different proportional situations. Finally, it represents a number or a quantity underlying in different proportional situations. It is important to choose and use a unit flexibly to understand the first and the second meanings of a:b=c:d, Double strip diagram and double number line are useful to visualize the meanings of a:b=c:d. In addition, what a number or a quantity in the third meaning of a:b=c:d refers to in proportional situations should be emphasized in teaching and learning of a:b=c:d.
Since multimedia data such as video and audio data are displayed within a certain time constraint, their computation and manipulation should be handled under limited condition. Traditional real-time scheduling algorithms could net be directly applicable, because they are not suitable for multimedia scheduling applications which support many clients at the same time. Rate Regulating Proportional Share Scheduling Algorithm is a scheduling algorithm considered the time constraint of the multimedia data. This scheduling algorithm uses a rate regulator which prevents tasks from receiving more resource than its share in a given period. But this algorithm loses fairness, and does not show graceful degradation of performance under overloaded situation, This paper proposes a new modified algorithm. namely Modified Proportional Share Scheduling Algorithm considering the characteristics of multimedia data such as its continuity and time dependency, Proposed scheduling algorithm shows graceful degradation of performance in overloaded situation and the reduction in the number of context switching, Furthermore, a new evaluation method is proposed which can evaluate the flexibility of scheduling algorithm.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between the students' strategy types and the recognition for proportional situations. The students' strategy types which were based on the results of ratio and proportion tests were divided into an additive type, a multiplicative type, and a formal type. This research analyzed the students' activities of categorization when were given the proportional problems and nonproportional problems to the students. And it also explored how to develop students' recognizing for the discrimination between the proportional situations and nonproportional situations. The results was the following. First, the students didn't discriminate the proportional situations and the nonproportional situations in the initial state but they came to discriminate little by little. Secondly, the students didn't discriminate the direct proportions and the inverse proportions until the last stage. Third, the multiplicative type was outperformed more than the formal type in solving the ratio and proportion problems but the formal type was outperformed more than the multiplicative type in discriminating between proportional situations and nonproportional situations. These results are interpreted as showing that solving ratio and proportion tasks and recognizing proportional situations are different aspects of proportional reasoning and it is necessary to understand multiplicative strategy with formal strategy in recognizing proportional situations.
The primary purpose of this study was to gather knowledge about $5^{th},\;6^{th},\;and\;7^{th}$ graders' proportional reasoning ability by investigating their reactions and use of strategies when encounting proportional or nonproportional problems, and then to raise issues concerning instructional methods related to proportion. A descriptive study through pencil-and-paper tests was conducted. The tests consisted of 12 questions, which included 8 proportional questions and 4 nonproportional questions. The following conclusions were drawn from the results obtained in this study. First, for a deeper understanding of the ratio, textbooks should treat numerical comparison problems and qualitative prediction and comparison problems together with missing-value problems. Second, when solving missing-value problems, students correctly answered direct-proportion questions but failed to correctly answer inverse-proportion questions. This result highlights the need for a more intensive curriculum to handle inverse-proportion. In particular, students need to experience inverse-relationships more often. Third, qualitative reasoning tends to be a more general norm than quantitative reasoning. Moreover, the former could be the cornerstone of proportional reasoning, and for this reason, qualitative reasoning should be emphasized before proportional reasoning. Forth, when dealing with nonproportional problems about 34% of students made proportional errors because they focused on numerical structure instead of comprehending the overall relationship. In order to overcome such errors, qualitative reasoning should be emphasized. Before solving proportional problems, students must be enriched by experiences that include dealing with direct and inverse proportion problems as well as nonproportional situational problems. This will result in the ability to accurately recognize a proportional situation.
Round robin based proportional share scheduling(RRPS) defines weight which determines share for each task and allocates CPU resource to each task in proportional to its respective weight. RRPS uses fairness as the measure of performance and aims at high fairness of scheduling. However, researches for scheduling fairness problem due to synchronization among tasks have been rarely investigated. In this paper, we discuss that scheduling delay due to synchronization may result high unfairness in RRPS. We explain such a situation as weight inversion. We then propose weight inheritance protocol(WIP), a synchronization mechanism, that prevents weight inversion. We also show that WIP can reduce unfairness using fairness analysis and simulation.
This research analyzed proportional reasoning abilities of the 5th grade students who learned only the basis of ratio and rate and 6th grade students who also learned proportion and cross product strategy. Data were collected through the proportional reasoning tests and the interviews, and then the achievement of the students and their proportional reasoning strategies were analyzed. In the light of such analytical results, the conclusions are as follows. Firstly, there is not much difference between 5th and 6th grade students in the achievement scores. Secondly, both 5th and 6th graders are less familiar with the geometric, qualitative and comparisons tasks than the other tasks. Thirdly, not only 5th graders but also 6th graders used informal strategies much more than the formal strategy. Fourthly, some students can't come up with other strategies than the cross product strategy. Finally, many students have difficulties in discerning proportional situation and non-proportional situations. This study provided suggestions for improving teaching proportional reasoning in elementary schools in Korea as follows: focusing on letting students use their informal strategies fluently in geometric, qualitative, and comparisons tasks as well as algebraic, quantitative, and missing value tasks focusing on the concept of ratio and proportion instead of enforcing the formal strategy.
