  • This study investigates empirically on the business analysis of fixed mobile convergence telecommunication service. As for the stage of empirical analysis, the process was carried out in the order elaboration of a test model, selection of sample, empirical analysis and interpretation of result. We report our Preliminary results on the fixed mobile convergence telecommunication service demand pattern forecasting by Bass model. The results show that the fixed mobile convergence telecommunication service may sustain profitability over the next ten years in the market. In conclusion, the practical implication of the result attained by this study is that in order to create a fixed mobile convergence in the korean business world, practical tools such as WiBro service is no less important than fixed service and Mobile service, and that users may be rightfully encouraged to adopt WiBro service.

  • The aim of this study is to develop a model for the alternative selection in port privatization using Brainstorming, the ISM and AHP methods. For this, 30 detailed attributing factors were identified by both previous studies and port users, Also, 13 attributing evaluation factors were identified by a group of port experts using the brainstorming method. These were made into a model of hierarchical structure with 3 levels, taking 1 goal factor, 5 evaluation factors and 7 alternative factors using the ISM method. The collected date of questionnaires through the AHP method were analyzed with a group of port experts for an empirical analysis. The result of the hierarchical level 2 shows that profitability is the most important factor, followed by public interest, management professionality, service quality and financial soundness. The analysis results of hierarchical level 3 shows that commercialization is the most important factor.

  • Competitive bidding in construction is concerned with contractors making strategic decisions in respect of determination of bid price if contractors opt to bid. This study presents a strategy model for deciding optimum tender price with reflecting appropriate profit in competitive bidding using Bayesian regression analysis (BRA). The purpose of the developed model is to help contractors to secure suitable profitability by predicting the actual profit based on key variables. They may affect construction cost at bidding phase, ultimately which help contractors to secure high quality output. The model was tested empirically by application to a bidding dataset collected from a large South Korea contractor. BRA allows contractors to estimate more accurate actual profit by reflecting not only objective information but also subjective experiences and judgments. Consequently, the model can contribute to improvement of decision-making process for setting an optimum tender price.

  • It has been an issue in the field of hospital management to develope a systematic and comprehensive analysis frame for financial position. This study developed a return on equity(ROE) model that includes the components of financial profitability, activity, stability and growth with reference to that developed in the USA The application of the model was attempted to assess its feasibility using data collected from a general hospital that has long been in the red. The hospital's financial ratio were compared to those of another private hospital in the black and also to the average ratios values of the similar bed-sized hospitals. Factors that cause the financial deficit and the strategies that can help to reorient the management's financial decision-making together with requisite conditions for effective use of the model, were identified. This study concludes that the ROE model can be usefull when effective financial strategies of the private hospitals are to be formulated.

  • This paper explored the development factors influencing the high growth of internet media industry recently in Korea. Both theoretical model and analytic model were formulated and tested by the results of questionnaire analysis. The factors extracted from five fields were as followings: policy, technology, market, firm, and profitability. Factor analysis was used to test the fitness of the given model, and the hypothesized model was found to be useful to explain the development factors of the internet media industry. The results showed that industry's development was explained by 41.3% for firm level, 37.6% for IT technology and policy, and 21.00/0 for market condition and competition.

  • Maximizing the profitability and minimizing the duration of construction projects in extreme weather regions is a challenging objective that is essential for project success. An optimization model is presented herein for the time-profit trade-off analysis of construction projects under extreme weather conditions. The model generates optimal/near optimal schedules that maximize profit and minimize the duration of construction projects in extreme weather regions. The computations in the model are organized into: (1) a scheduling module that develops practical schedules for construction projects, (2) a profit module that computes project costs (direct, indirect, and total) and project profit, and (3) a multi-objective module that determines optimal/near optimal trade-offs between project duration and profit. One example is used to show the impact of extreme weather on construction time and profit. Another example is used to show the model's ability to generate optimal trade-offs between the time and profit of construction projects under extreme weather conditions.

  • From foreign and/or domestic investors' perspectives, it may be interesting to find any financial attributes or profile of the firms headquartered in 'Chungcheong' province concerning profitability, given that this subject so far drew less attention in the previous literature. This study performed three hypothesis tests on the profitability indicator by utilizing the models such as the 'panel data' one and the 'logistic' regression one, applying a modified 'Dupont' system. With respect to the major findings, the results identified that the proxies measuring leverage across the book-value(BVLEV1) and the market-value(MVLEV1) bases, were statistically significant constituents determining profitability. Another explanatory variable, SIZE, with its positive and statistically significant relationship to the indicator, represented that the firms in the province were smaller than their counterparts in the other regional areas in Korea. DRELY applying a modified 'Dupont' system, found to be the only statistically significant discriminating factor between these comparison groups. As one of the primary contributions of this study, the outcomes may be used by the financial institutions operated across the regions including Seoul Metropolitan area, when implementing their lending practices to provide funds for potential borrowers such as the firms belonging to 'Chungcheong' province.

  • Previous U-Commerce researches have dealt with the business support systems for traditional commerce space such as real world shopping malls. This paper investigates U-Commerce business models in service space. The McDonald's Touch-Order case is analyzed from business model perspective and the Media-Embedded Place business model is introduced as a U-Commerce business model for value creation in service space. The media-embedded place business model attaches auto-identification tags to tables or billboards, triggers commercial transaction through the tags, and shares the revenues and the incentives among the place owners and commerce/content providers. This paper analyzes its scenario and applications and illustrates the profitability analysis using so-called 'tag evaluation model'.

  • The provision of information on the profitability and efficiency during the transition from growing rice to substitute crops is an essential task for the proliferation and settlement of the production adjustment system. First, the profitability of the soybean + barley cropping system was analyzed. The average income of the farms with the soybean + barley cropping system surveyed was 868,000 Won, with an income proportion of 55.1%. With earned income that is approximately 1.7 times higher than that of growing only rice, it is determined to be more profitable. Then, the efficiency of the farms was analyzed through DEA analysis. The efficiencies of the farms were found to include the CCR model (0.927815) and the BCC model (0.97544). It was also found that there are 10 CCR and 14 BCC results with an efficiency value of 1. With an efficiency value of more than 0.9 on average, it can be deemed as efficient management in general. In addition, by presenting a proposal for the improvement of inefficient farms, the target value was provided in order for inefficient farms to become efficient farms.

  • While previous studies on service failures mainly focused on general services, this study examines the effects of failed financial services on the psychological process and behavioral responses of consumers. The important factors of financial service (relational benefits, convenience, branch satisfaction, product diversity, company stability, and product profitability) are regarded as antecedents in our model. We study how each factor of failed financial service affects the negative emotions of consumers through the attribution process and how these arising emotions influence their behavioral responses. Through path analysis, this study shows that failure of service factors of relational benefits, branch satisfaction, and convenience induces disappointment, with the mediation effect of external attribution. Meanwhile, failure of service factors of product diversity and product profitability induces regret, with the mediation effect of internal attribution. Disappointment leads to complaint behavior, and regret leads to switching behavior. Unlike previous studies, the present one considers the important factors of financial service and their effects on the affective and behavioral responses of consumers.
