The purpose of this study was to investigate the concentration and distribution characteristics of $PM_{10}$ at high schools classrooms in Ulsan and its surroundings. This study evaluated $PM_{10}$ levels in classrooms at 79 high schools in Ulsan from May 2008 to May 2009. The average $PM_{10}$ level was 63.8 ${\mu}g/m^3$, and the rate of exceeding the statutory maintenance limit was 16.0%. The average $PM_{10}$ level was higher in general schools (64.9 ${\mu}g/m^3$) compared to professional schools (59.2 ${\mu}g/m^3$), and private schools (66.6 ${\mu}g/m^3$) was higher than that of public schools (62.5 ${\mu}g/m^3$). The average $PM_{10}$ level (68.4 ${\mu}g/m^3$) in general classrooms was significantly (p < 0.01) higher than that in multi-purpose ones (54.6 ${\mu}g/m^3$), and first-year student classrooms (73.3 ${\mu}g/m^3$) was significantly (p < 0.05) higher than that in second or third grade ones (67.6 ${\mu}g/m^3$, 51.5 ${\mu}g/m^3$, respectively). The $PM_{10}$ level in schools in Dong-Gu in the vicinity of assorted industrial complexes was higher than that of schools located in other districts around the Ulsan Metropolitan Area. The regression model showed that $PM_{10}$ level was positively associated with number of students and relative humidity.
We present a study of citizen science performed at Korean Minjok Leadership Academy (KMLA). The importance of citizen involvements in scientific studies has been increasing, with remarkable results and performances. For instance, the discovery of an impact scar near Jupiter's south polar region (A. Wesley, 2009) led to an international campaign of professional observations to understand the asteroidal collision responsible for the scar. Citizen science at KMLA has been and will be mainly conducted by members of the astronomical observation club 'Apple-Pie' through amateur telescopes. Members of 'Apple-Pie' are specialized in various fields related to astronomy, from planetary science to cosmology. The spectrum not only includes fields that are directly related to astronomy but also fields such as computer science and astrophotography. The scheduled construction of a new observatory will further enable students to participate in higher level projects such as planetary monitoring over long timescales and the observation and detection of solar system bodies and exoplanets. In addition, a new supervisor with expertise and research experience in galactic astronomy, planetary science, and meteorology has joined the school faculty. He will supplement students with fundamental theoretical backgrounds and essential research techniques to enhance astronomical research at KMLA. KMLA's ultimate goal is to deploy a remote-controlled observatory available to aspiring scientists around the world to create a network of citizen science system. The prime observational conditions of KMLA and the willingness of the students and faculty members will provide a competitive edge for KMLA over other similar institutes in Korea.

There has been a lot of interest in flipped learning, but lacked practical research to support the faculty developing flipped learning courses in higher education institutions. The purpose of this study is to develop a consulting model for developing a flipped learning course that can be practically used by institutions such as center for teaching and learning that support faculty teaching to improve the quality of instruction. A 'Coaching based on flip learning course development consulting model' was derived through literature review and expert feedback. The 8-step model is as follows: 1) survey of class development, 2) course orientation, 3) flipped learning, 4) expert class analysis, 5) flipped learning coaching, 6) flipped learning operation, 7) instructor reflection, and 8) feedback and revision. Based on the results of this study, it is possible to provide professional and practical guide systematically, and also help to improve quality of lesson.

1. Library practice education in Korea is in the form of field experience, that is, Practicum, which is one type of field experience. 2. The practicum is a short-term work experience guided by the academic institutions. (2 to 6 weeks of full time employment in a library, or one to two semesters of approximately 10 to 12 hours weekly) 3. Field work is largely accepted as a required subject. 4. Field work is usually carried out during the first semester of senior year. (or of sophomore year in junior college) 5. Libraries in other universities (or in other institutions) can beused for a student's field work. But the current tendency is to use his or her own university's library. 6. Most universities give one credit for 2 weeks' field work. 7. The method of evaluation is strict: A or 'excellent' (above 90), B or 'good' (above 80), C or 'fair' (above 70), D or 'bad' (above 60). 8. The expense of field work is usually included in the tuition fees. However, some think that an additional fees should be collected in the case of special practice. 9. Respondents to my survey say that the field experience is necessary so that professional librarians can connect theory and practice. 10. They also indicate that there are some problems in library practice education: administrative difficulties in the department chairman's office, the burden on professors in the library being used, and the limited number of libraries in which the field work is practicable. 11. The Department of Library Science is responsible primarily for providing faculty supervision over the students, and secondarily for the preparation of evaluation cards and field work reports. 12. Most of the faculty respondents use evaluation cards for the field work, some of which serve as grade sheets, some as field work diaries, and some as field work reports.
Background: The pharmacy education system in South Korea has changed from four-year degree program to two-year pre-pharmacy program plus four-year professional degree program (a total of six years) since 2009. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to assess final year student's satisfaction on this new pharmacy education system and to explore factors related to student satisfaction. Methods: A paper-and-pencil survey instrument was administered to all final year pharmacy students at four universities located in South Korea during September of 2014. The self-administered questionnaire contained 39 items. In part 1, the quality of education with regards to school utilities, education system, human resources, and communication domains were measured. In part 2, overall satisfactions with the new education system were asked to students. Responses were recorded on a seven point Likert scale. Results: A total of 207 students were participated in this study. Students showed low satisfaction on school utilities and standardization of education while they displayed high level of satisfaction on the quality of the faculty members and preceptors at clerkship sites. Factor analysis showed that education service was the most significant factor that affects students' satisfaction followed by facilities, standardized education, communication, administration, pharmacy practice (p<0.05). Conclusion: The qualification of faculty and preceptors ranked number one in students' satisfaction and it was the most significant factor. School facilities were found to be the second most significant factor in students' satisfaction while students displayed poor satisfaction. The study results might need to be reflected in future education planning to improve students' satisfaction.
Purpose: Proper nutrition is essential for brain development during infancy, contributing to the continued development of cognitive, motor, and socio-emotional skills throughout life. Considering the insufficient published data in the Middle East and North Africa, experts drafted a questionnaire to assess the opinions and knowledge of physicians on the impact of nutrition on brain development and cognition in early life. Methods: The questionnaire consisted of two parts: The first focused on the responders' demographic and professional characteristics and the second questioned the role of nutrition in brain development and cognition. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize respondents' characteristics and their responses to questions. Results: A total of 1,500 questionnaires were distributed; 994 physicians responded. The majority of the surveyed physicians (64.4%) felt that nutrition impacts brain development in early childhood (0-4 years), with almost 90% of physicians agreeing/strongly agreeing that preventing iron, zinc, and iodine deficiency would improve global intelligence quotient. The majority of physicians (83%) agreed that head circumference was the most important measure of brain development. The majority of physicians (68.9%) responded that the period from the last trimester until 18 months postdelivery was crucial for brain growth and neurodevelopment, with 76.8% believing that infants breast-fed by vegan mothers have an increased risk of impaired brain development. Conclusion: The results of this study show that practicing physicians significantly agree that nutrition plays an important role in brain and cognitive development and function in early childhood, particularly during the last trimester until 18 months postdelivery.
Learning communities in medical education have demonstrated favorable outcomes in terms of students' learning, professional development, and wellness. Despite these strengths and the widespread adoption of learning communities in US medical schools, there has been little interest in medical learning communities in Korea. In this context, the present study examined the development and implementation of the Yonsei Medical Learning Community (YMLC) and analyzed its outcomes and areas of improvement. The Yonsei University College of Medicine has operated a learning community as part of the undergraduate medical education curriculum since 2014. The YMLC is the first program of its type in Korea. The overall structure of the YMLC consists of four distinct communities (pillars), which are named after four distinguished alumni, and each pillar is organized into five learning community classes. Each class is vertically integrated across students in different medical school years, and one faculty advisor is matched to about 30 students. As the YMLC focuses on fostering reflective practice in students and providing them with opportunities to build teamwork and experience social relatedness, two educational approaches have been adopted: reflective writing and mentoring and community activities. In this study, we obtained and analyzed second-year students' feedback on the YMLC curriculum and identified its achievements, merits, and areas that need improvement. The results have shown that over 75% and 60% of respondents reported satisfaction with reflective writing and mentoring and community activities, respectively. The educational activities of the learning community helped students regularly reflect on their learning and progress and establish close relationships with faculty advisors. However, several areas of improvement regarding content, format, and logistical issues were also identified. The present findings may provide valuable information for other institutions to develop learning communities relevant to their own context.

To support early intervention, it is necessary to develop programming system tools that enable accurate, valid, and reliable assessments and can help achieve reasonable, generalizable, and measurable goals. This study examined the Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System (AEPS) used by associations of children with disabilities in Saudi Arabia to assess its suitability for children with intellectual disabilities. A group of 16 specialists with different professional backgrounds (including special education, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and psychology) from 11 associations of children with disabilities took part in semi-structured personal interviews. The study concluded that AEPS is generally suited for use with children with intellectual disabilities. However, its suitability depends on the type and severity of the child's disability. The more severe the disability, the less effective the AEPS is likely to be. On the basis of this finding the researchers formed interdisciplinary teams to organise and integrate the children's learning and assess the benefits of AEPS, including its accuracy and ability to achieve adaptive, cognitive, and social targets, enhance family engagement and learning and develop basic development skills. This study also identified obstacles associated with the use of AEPS. These include the lack of comprehensiveness and accuracy of the goal, lack of precision and non-applicability to large movements and the fact that it cannot be used with all children with intellectual disabilities. In addition, the research showed that non-cooperation within the family is a major obstacle to the implementation of the AEPS. The results of this study have several implications.
Objectives: This study tried to use information from the university information disclosure system as basic data to understand dental hygiene departments and search for development directions by analyzing major indicators through information disclosure data collection. Methods: Based on the information released from 2019 to 2021, 53 three-year universities with dental hygiene departments nationwide were analyzed based on data from the last three years of university alerts. Results: The indicators that the colleges with dental hygiene departments had higher averages than the overall junior colleges were: rate of levy with enrolled students within the quota, rate of faculty in full service, rate of lectures conducted by faculty in full service, employment rate, and annual scholarships per person. In the dental hygiene departments, acceptance rates of new students were 1.46-30.53 (average 10.24), admission quota was 27-160 (average 70), the number of continuing students was 39-515 (average 209), number of scholarships was 1,368,348.50 won-4,581,073.13 won (average 3,515,647.32 won) and the employment rate ranged from 57.6% to 98.9% (average 82.8%). Conclusions: In order for the departments of dental hygiene to be competitive, it is necessary for colleges to find ways to increase pride in, and satisfaction with their departments. After graduation, if the professional dental hygienist system is established and the legal role as a dental hygienist is expanded, it will be possible to move forward as a competitive department.

Accurate liver segment segmentation based on radiological images is indispensable for the preoperative analysis of liver tumor resection surgery. However, most of the existing segmentation methods are not feasible to be used directly for this task due to the challenge of exact edge prediction with some tiny and slender vessels as its clinical segmentation criterion. To address this problem, we propose a novel deep learning based segmentation model, called Boundary-Aware Dual Attention Liver Segment Segmentation Model (BADA). This model can improve the segmentation accuracy of liver segments with enhancing the edges including the vessels serving as segment boundaries. In our model, the dual gated attention is proposed, which composes of a spatial attention module and a semantic attention module. The spatial attention module enhances the weights of key edge regions by concerning about the salient intensity changes, while the semantic attention amplifies the contribution of filters that can extract more discriminative feature information by weighting the significant convolution channels. Simultaneously, we build a dataset of liver segments including 59 clinic cases with dynamically contrast enhanced MRI(Magnetic Resonance Imaging) of portal vein stage, which annotated by several professional radiologists. Comparing with several state-of-the-art methods and baseline segmentation methods, we achieve the best results on this clinic liver segment segmentation dataset, where Mean Dice, Mean Sensitivity and Mean Positive Predicted Value reach 89.01%, 87.71% and 90.67%, respectively.
