  • The interface design of mobile products has become a hot issue recently as a variety of products are being developed for extended usages. There have been two different views on interface design of mobile products like PDAs(personal digital assistants) or cellular phone. One 치aims that the current interface design of PC cannot be directly applied because mobile products have their own specific functions and requirements. On the meantime, the other argues that an extended application of PC metaphors to mobile products can have advantages because users'PC experiences can reduce the learning efforts and thus contribute to intuitive understanding mobile products. In this research, two types of PDAs, developed according to the aforementioned conflicting philosophies were compared and evaluated, based on laboratory-based usability testing conducted by novice users. The experiment consists of asking subjects to perform identical tasks for the two different types of products. The interaction data collected during usability testing were analyzed in terms of time taken, rate of success of tasks and errors. The experiment shows that there were some meaningful effects of users'experience of PC on the usability of PDAs.

  • This research aims at the contribution to globalize and modernize the traditional Korean image by comprehending the taste of design that domestic college students have for traditional feminine head ornaments and subsequently elaborate the development of cultural products that are related to these decorative objects. In regards to this research method, the examination on the traditional feminine ornaments was followed through a review of literature and precedent studies and a survey was conducted on the preference about them. After the adoption of final valid responses, an analytical method, PASW 18.0, was used for frequency analysis, technical analysis, reliability, and regression analysis. The results were as follows. First, in the category of tendency analysis for the application of traditional feminine headpiece in fashion cultural products, it was revealed that a taste for the design that meet the satisfaction for both trend and practicability was prominently prevalent. Also, the design that express the individual characteristic was taken as a preferred option. Second, in the preference for the design of traditional feminine headpieces in fashion cultural products, the result indicated that the modern type was preferred in the form of re-creation as long as those products deform the tradition. As for the selective taste for patterns, their preference came in the order of plant, animal, and geometry-abstract types. Especially, for the case of plant and animal patterns, the reinterpreted design of modernized shapes were opted rather than a simply recopied format of the conventional type of the feminist head ornament. Third, for the category of item selection to apply the feminine head ornament in order to design the fashion cultural products, it turned out that people preferred the application to accessory rather than clothing. Lastly, it was found that rarity, harmony with other fashion goods, pattern, and design should be considered when the traditional motif was used for cultural products.

  • This project addresses the product identification and design application of corrugated products for kinetic architectural applications. Initially, an architectural approach to product identification was carried out with the end goal of demonstrating application design principles of numerous novel architectural examples from the forest products industry. A design and prototyping stage followed demonstrating such application design principles and functional analysis on various novel architectural examples. The results of coupling product identification with proven application advantages will be of potential value not only to architecture but also to other designers in the arts and sciences. The general motivation for the research arises out of a growing interest corrugated and paper products to be ideally suited for various architectural applications for their unparallel environmental benefits. Applications in architecture that use fewer resources and that adapt efficiently to complex and changing conditions are particularly relevant for an industry (architecture) that is increasingly aware of its environmental responsibilities. Corrugated and paper products are highly under-utilized by the building industry as design choice material for both interior and exterior applications. An increased awareness of the benefits of corrugated and paper products coupled with a process of designing for the total use and reuse will prove to be a valuable means by which issues of energy efficiency and environmental quality of buildings could be enhanced to be more efficient, affordable, and therefore reach a broader audience of users.

The subjects of this study were 556 natural indigo dyed products and 2,730 Japanese natural indigo dyed products selling natural indigo dyed products which were found using search engine keywords of natural indigo dyeing and natural dyeing. Research and analysis was treated regarding the products, items, patterns, and the representation techniques of the patterns. The results of this study are as follows. In the pattern used for natural indigo dyed products, 71.4% of Korean products have no pattern, but 77.1% of Japanese products have patterns. On the representation techniques of the patterns, Korean products used tie-dyeing and a dip patterned fabric. While in the Japanese products, the most frequent patterning techniques were paraffin dye, followed by tie-dyeing, yarn-dyed and weaving, screen printing, and yarn-dyed and knitting. Regarding the kinds of patterns for natural indigo dyed products, only 8 kinds of patterns were used in Korean products; however, over 50 kinds of various patterns were used in Japanese products. Most patterns in the Korean products were ion patterns made by tie-dyeing. While in the Japanese products, the most frequent patterns were stripe patterns, followed by flower, dot, and ion patterns. Based on these research results, the problems of the textile design of Korean natural indigo dyed products were that most of the products have no pattern, and even though there were patterns, they lacked variations between the products. While in the case of Japan, they used the traditional and modem patterns of various textile representation techniques.
