  • This paper handles main automation facilities and important control issues for hot rolling mill processes. Starting from the general procedures of production cycle, detailed tension control applications are handled based on field experiences and published research papers. Nowadays, quality control and delivery time control for products is becoming more and more important as the client demand is tighter than any other period. In this respect, control technology in steel making process takes very important position. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to share control problems with the people in academic field and by doing so, to get new and striking solution for the problems.

  • Make-to-forecast production is a way to realize high customization and fast responsiveness. This study firstly investigates the effect of introducing a common component in a make-to-forecast production environment. The common component can eliminate a modification step, which is a major cost component in make-to-forecast production. It is illustrated, however, that introducing a versatile component that merely covers several variants is unattractive, and thus adding values to the common component is inevitable in this environment. Secondly, an order-matching rule under the condition that two partially overlapped delivery lead time intervals exist is proposed. The rule considers the effect of matching orders to units that can cover both intervals. An alternative re-matching rule is also developed and examined. Numerical experiments clarify that the proposed rule generally realizes higher contribution ratio and lower percentages of orphans and rejected orders. The proposed re-matching rule increases the average contribution ratio at the expense of increased orphans and order rejections.

  • Electrohydrodynamics is a good approach to produce uniform-sized colloids and fibers in a continuous process. The dimension can be controlled from tens of nanometers to a few micrometers. The structure of the colloids and nanofibers from electrohydrodynamics has been diversified according to the uses. Especially, core-shell structure and hybridization with functional nanomaterials are fascinating due to their possible uses in drug-delivery systems, multifunctional scaffolds, organic/inorganic hybrids with new functions, and highly sensitive gas- or bio-sensors. This talk will present the structural variations in the colloids and fibers by simply employing phase separation during electrohydrodynamic process and demonstrate their possible applications.

  • this paper describes optimization efforts throughout the process from design, delivery and construction to operations in two CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) building projects. CLT gives us an opportunity to change our mindset and examine issues concurrently instead of working separately by phase or by profession. The author, as project manager, led the interdisciplinary discussions.

  • Domestic apparel products labeled as 'Made in Korea' in the Chinese market are recognized as a high quality products due to the influence of the Korean Wave (Intergen Consulting Group, 2007). This study analyzes the patterns and order arrangement types of a fashion brand company commissioned to produce apparel in Seoul, Korea in order to rebuild a network of small sewing factories scattered in Korea, reorganize operations, and to find the possibility of regenerating the Korean sewing industry by establishing contact points with domestic sewing factories. We surveyed 100 apparel brand companies in Seoul listed in the 2014/2015 Korea Fashion Brand Annual (Apparel News, 2014) and conducted a questionnaire survey on the company's general management status, type of fabric materials dealt with, and major contact points and methods of production handling. The frequency analysis indicated that the main production material with cloth type was woven fabric with ladies' clothes. The Planning MD team has the highest rate of ordering production with delivery method to the production factory after purchasing fabric and trims. Most respondents answered that they would select a production factory based on recommendations from acquaintances. This was due to a lack of no objective indicator provided by the sewing factory at present and the absence of objectively proceeded communication with brand companies. In this study, we analyze various conditions and measurements for production arrangements from a fashion brand company to revitalize sewing factories in Korea.

  • In Factory Automation environments such as FMS, the formation of machine-part based on GT should be considered. The purpose of this study is to develop a economic heuristic algorithm which considers various elements such as unit processing time, subcontract cost, and functional operation cost, machine processing capacity etc. When this proposed approach is applied to the real situation expected benefits are as follows: the reduction of production lead time work in process, labor force, tooling, rework and scrap, setup time, order time delivery, and paper work, etc.

  • Many of the industrialized countries since the 1970s have been experiencing the change in the industrial structure due to technological development, that is, from Fordism to post-Fordism, or to "flexible production system". Regional development has been undergoing some changes according to the different industrial production systems. During the Fordist mass production period, the manufacturing belt was the core region of the production system. As the system shifts to flexible production system of which characteristics are veritcal disintegration, emphasis for JIT(just-in-time) delivery system, part-time and short-time labor contracts, design-intensive industries, etc, the new system requires the new production core and has produced the new industrial spaces, such as Sunbelt cities, suburbs, small-or medium-sized cities, and non-metropolitan areas. In the perspective of global system, the Fordist production system made th NICs developed, because the mass production required many unskilled and low-wage workers. As the NICs exports of manufactured goods have incredibly expanded during the 1970s, the industrialized countries have become threatened. The industriablized countries have restructured their economies and international policies. Such restructures resulted in the economic depression of the NICs. The investment pattern of the industrialized countries has changed and particularly those industries adopting the Post-Fordism have invested from the NICs to the peripheral areas of their own countries or toward the underdeveloped countries which have much lower wage workers. The investment pattern of the NICs is also undergoing some changes like from metropolitian areas to small or non-metropolitan regions. The regional development since the post-Fordist production is still going on, thus it is not possible to generalize the tendency. That could be a particular phenomenon or a stage in the long-term cycle. But the regional development in the world system since 1980s definitely shows the different pattern.t pattern.

  • Resource-constrained project scheduling is to allocate limited resources to activities to optimize certain objective functions and to determine a start time for each activity in the project such that precedence constraints and resource requirements are satisfied. This study suggests a multi-project scheduling model which can level work loads, make the most of production capacity and restrain the delay of delivery by developing a heuristic algorithm which minimizes the project completion time and maximizes the load rate under resource constraints.

  • One of many factors that influences the profit of an enterprise is the amount of the stock in an enterprise. When the stock amounts are optimal the economic burden of the enterprise decreases which in turn results in the optimum number of employment and spatial utilization of storages. The purpose of this study is the simulation modeling of a material stock control system using DEVS models in order to get the most suitable stock amounts. The stock within an enterprise is built by the orders from outside world. The effect on the stock by the factors such as order, delivery, and production components has been analyzed based on simulation results.
