  • It is known that about 15 to 40 percent of total design time is spent on retrieving information such as standard parts handbook data, engineering equations, previous designs. This paper describes a knowledge management system for machine tool design. Product structuring, change management, and complex design knowledge management are possible through the developed system. The system can speed up the design process by making necessary data instantly available as it is needed and keeping track of all the relevant design information and knowledge including individual decisions, design intentions, documents, and drawings.

  • Recently, according to the various taste of consumers, the design of a product is changed variously and complicatedly. The complicated product is not usually constructed with one patch but multi-patch. By the way, in machining, higher precision and the reduction of leading and machining time is required. But for the multi-patch sculptured surface, the amount of machining data becomes large. This means the increase of leading and machining time. In this study, the tool path generation method with reparameterization is proposed for multi-patch sculptured surface and variable step size using NURBS is used to satisfy the precision and to reduce leading and machining time.

  • The use of snap-fit features is highly recommended to reduce overall product cost and manufacturing time by reducing the number of parts and eliminating assembly with conventional fasteners. Application to particular product for integral attachment using snap-fit features is needed. Alternative attachment concept for specific application has been introduced. In this study, the optimal attachment design based on the given design objectives is identified using newly developed alternative attachment concept for the specific application to LCD monitor case assembly. Integral attachment using snap-fit features applies the systematic procedure and the intensity analysis.

  • In this study to cope with the decreasing product's life-cycle a virtual simulator to realize the simulation environment similar to a real manufacturing line is developed. The developed simulator plays a role in reducing the product conversion time by alternating manufacturing components and work plans on the simulation as manufacturing lines change and actuating a virtual manufacturing lines change and actuating a virtual manufacturing line before a real production. The developed simulator realized a virtual manufacturing line on the simulation using various manipulators and work cells as manufacturing components. Also It can be shown that the simulator can cope with rapid change of a manufacturing line by developing a interface that a separate process is managed for each manufacturing module and a manipulator component and a work cell are changed for a user to become convenient to teach tasks of each work module. using Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 and OpenGL of Silicon Graphics for libraries to realize 3-dimensional graphic and constructing a database system, a hybrid type of hierachical and relational model to develop a progra that has efficiency and standardization.

  • Vehicle industry is developing research for producing high quality injection molded product. The main objective of this study is providing information about hydraulic system for researchers who are involved in the other fields, not hydraulic field. Another objective is developing hydraulic circuit simulation model which analyzes the cause of several destabilizing elements related to quality of injection molded products. Injection molded product consists of a lot of hydraulic parts, and there are many nonlinear facts for dynamic behavior. So, we used 'SimulationX' which is specialized in hydraulic system for developing simulation model.

  • Derivation of modern products from the by gone age has contributed much for the new modern living. It has been generally recognized that the various ethnicities in Borneo with different backgrounds had made Borneo a place of cultural diversity. However as time passed, most indigenous products are no longer in used or are stored in poor condition. Most products nearly aged over a century are still in a good condition with invaluable sentiments. Indigenous product is an artifact that had been designed and used by certain community of people such as tools, clothing, crafts and goods. Each design may have its own identity to the community. Some of the indigenous products which are no longer in use at present are kept by the community as their collections. The research reveals similarities in the interests of indigenous products, concerns and realities of indigenous communities from the different regions. The study suggests that learning about indigenous materials, such as hand-made products and machine-made products is necessary for the local industry to develop a product identity that is distinctly local. Most indigenous products show evidence of connections to old traditions, yet are new to the design market.

  • In roll forming process, a sheet metal is continuously progressively formed into a product with required cross-section and longitudinal shape, such as a circular tube with required diameter, wall-thickness and straightness, by passing through a series of forming rolls in arranged in tandem. Tn this process, each pair of forming rolls installed in a forming machine play a particular role in making up the required cross-section and longitudinal shape of the product. In recent years, that process is often applied to the bumper rail in the automotive industries. In this study, a optimal Front Bumper Beam manufacturing technology, model deign and proper roll-pass sequences can be suggested by forming number of roll-pass and bending angle. And also effects of the process parameters on the final shape formed by roll forming defects were evaluated.

  • 현대의 경쟁 산업 환경에서 고객 만족은 중요한 주제이다. 따라서 품질과 생산성 향상은 아주 중요한 요소이다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 타입의 제품을 병렬기계에 투입할 때 품질을 높이면서 동시에 평균 납기지연 시간을 최소화하는 효율적인 작업투입방법에 대하여 기술하였다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안하는 방법의 효율성을 비교대안과 비교하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 방법을 통해 기업은 고객 만족도를 향상시킬 수 있을 것이다.

3D 프린팅시스템과 CAM시스템을 활용한 금형가공에 관한 연구 (Research on Die Machining using 3D Printing and CAM System)

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate optimum machining conditions to improve the quality of die using the CAD/CAM system(Power Shape/Power Mill) and 3D printing. Surface roughness is widely used as an index for processing degree of accuracy. The Power Shape was used to model the shape of product. And the model shape is confirmed by 3D printing system(BFB-3000). Also, tool path and NC-codes were generated using Power Mill. Finally, the product was cut using CNC machine(NBS-2025). The cutting time and surface roughness were measured by measuring instrument. And then this process was repeated by changing the conditions to find optimal machining conditions. The surface roughness behavior with regard to specific factors were analyzed. Through this study, the optimal machining condition can be obtained.
