  • This study investigated the relationship between privacy policy awareness and willingness to provide personal information. Online privacy policies published on the Internet aim to build the trust of consumers and reduce their concerns about the provision of providing personal information. This study uses FIP(FIP; Fair Information Practices) principles to measure awareness of privacy policy. The result of the survey indicates significant relationships among awareness of privacy policy of e-commerce websites, privacy trust, and privacy risk. Privacy policy aims to improve transparency of collection and use of personal information. A high level of privacy trust is related to a high level of willingness to provide personal information on an e-commerce website. A low level of privacy risk is related to a high level of willingness to provide personal information on an e-commerce website. This study found that disposition to trust moderates the relationship between privacy policy awareness and privacy trust. This study contributes to further research on the relationships among privacy policy awareness, privacy trust, and privacy risk. The result of this study can be used by companies that aim to build privacy trust and reduce privacy risk.

  • Purpose This study provided empirical support for the model that explain the formation of privacy concerns in the perspective of Information Boundary Theory. This study investigated an integrated model suggesting that privacy concerns are formed by the individual's disposition to value privacy, privacy awareness, awareness of privacy policy, and government legislation. The Information Boundary Theory suggests that the boundaries of information space dependends on the individual's personal characteristics and environmental factors of e-commerce. When receiving a request for personal information from e-commerce websites, an individual assesses the risk depending on the risk-control assessment, the perception of intrusion give rise to privacy concerns. Design/methodology/approach This study empirically tested the hypotheses with the data collected in a survey that included the items measuring the constructs in the model. The survey was aimed at university students. and a causal modeling statistical technique(PLS) is used for data analysis in this research. Findings The results of the survey indicated significant relationships among environmental factors of e-commerce websites, individual's personal privacy characteristics and privacy concerns. Both individual's awareness of institutional privacy assurance on e-commerce and the privacy characteristics affect the risk-control assessment towards information disclosure, which becomes an essential components of privacy concerns.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors of privacy concern and self presentation that affect the user resistance in the use of social network service. Methods: This study verifies the factors that affecting the user resistance in SNS. The research model suggested in this study is tested via a survey of 260 SNS users. SPSS and Smart PLS had been used to test the suggested hypotheses. Results: This study shows that privacy experience, privacy awareness, self esteem, and social desirability significantly influence perceived risk and that privacy awareness, self esteem, self efficacy, and perceived risk significantly influence perceived trust. It also verifies that perceived risk and perceived trust positively affect user resistance. Conclusion: This paper suggests that high awareness on privacy of SNS user encourages the SNS companies to consider the privacy protection mechanism for eliminating various factors that affecting the risk. This study also shows that the privacy calculus model applies to understanding the mechanism on resistance of SNS user.

  • Smart City is highly anticipated to solve the problems of existing cities and create new added value, but there is also increasing concern about security risks. The negative view of smart city according to security risk awareness is a problem that needs to be improved in order to activate the fourth industrial revolution technology and develop smart city. This study examined risk factors in smart cities based on perceived risk and user resistance theory, and empirically analyzed the relationship with resistance attitudes. According to the empirical analysis with 288 research samples, security, social, and physical risk factors directly affect smart city resistance, while financial, performance, and privacy risk have no significant effect. In addition, it was verified that the security risk can is an antecedent factor for other risk factors, and it was confirmed that it is required to separately discuss the security and privacy risk in the smart city environment. This study shows that it is necessary to prepare policy supports for social interactions as well as security and physical safety issues in order to activate smart city by discussing the risk factors that negatively affect smart city perception from the public's point of view.

  • Wearable devices need a host device to be paired with because of connectivity, functionality and ease personalization. There should be frequent update and backup processes between the paired devices even without user's consciousness. Due to pairing process, user-specific data are copied from smartphone and transferred to paired smartwatch. We focus on what happens in smartwatch because of pairing process. We perform an experiment study by observing and extracting data from smartwatch under real world usage phases. With a survey of user awareness on smartwatch regarding security and privacy, moreover, we suggest risk assessment on smartwatch in five levels, particularly considering pairing process based on security and privacy.

  • In the smart intelligence information society, there is a possibility that the social dysfunction such as the personal information protection issue and the risk to the electronic surveillance society may be highlighted. In this paper, we refer to various categories and classify electronic surveillance into audio surveillance, visual surveillance, location surveillance, biometric information surveillance, and data surveillance. In order to respond to new electronic surveillance in the intelligent information society, it requires a change of perception that is different from that of the past. This starts with the importance of digital privacy and results in the right to self-determination of personal information. Therefore, in order to preemptively respond to the dysfunctions that may arise in the intelligent information society, it is necessary to further raise the awareness of the civil society to protect information human rights.
