Many international development (ID) projects have continued to fail to deliver their intended socio-economic benefits to the beneficiary (i.e., a group of primary recipients of these benefits). In this research, drawing from project stakeholder and benefit management literature, we investigated how ID project performance is perceived by beneficiary, how beneficiary is engaged, and how such engagement contributes to ID project performance. The results from thirteen semi-structured interviews with those leading beneficiary engagement in ID projects in Indonesia showed that, as compared with other projects, ID projects place a stronger emphasis on benefit realization when it comes to performance evaluation given their focuses on achieving socio-economic objectives. Beneficiary engagement during the entire life cycle was found to be critical to benefit realization in ID projects. Although the specific methods employed can vary, the beneficiary engagement in ID projects usually take a participatory and longer-term perspective, aiming to facilitate not only the benefit realization but also the sustainability of the benefits over time. This research extends prior project stakeholder and benefit management literature to a specific stakeholder group (i.e., beneficiary) in a unique context (i.e., ID projects). It also offers practical insights to assist organizations effectively plan and manage beneficiary engagement in future ID projects.

We studied how to achieve successful implementation of massive research and development projects requiring collaboration among industries, universities and government-supported research institute. We have set up an engineering process innovation model to be deemed most adequately for all practical purposes, relying on the theoretical studies on the merits and analysis of the effect of the information system based on Milestone Management, Work Breakdown Structures and Web, which is known to be effective for research project (schedule) management and the objective management, and implemented a real-world web-based project objective management system. After a review of various R & D Project Schedule Management methods, we found that this information system was very compatible with project objective management. This project objective management information system carries out research and development projects effectively and efficiently, getting together in cyber-space and sharing information, and has been equipped with an Early Warning Subsystem to allow for pre-analysis and timely response to potential problems arising from the course of the project. The system also contains an Executive Information System that in real time, automatically provides the management information required by managers with the rate of project progress (achievement, fulfillment and delay). Lastly, actual progress can be cross-checked through both on-line objective management on the web-based information system and design review meeting held on site, to improve the efficiency and validity of the information system. Moreover, overall effect was analyzed through questionnaires on how well the system and generated information meet requirements and on the ultimate impact of the system upon objective management and communication. The questionnaire on the system effect revealed that the information system was useful to objective management and communication, and that the quality of the system was more than acceptable as well.

The purpose of this study is to embody the integrated working management system for public works, focused on the management of surplus soil at a field of public works. The contents and results of this study can be classified into the design of working management DB for public works and the embodiment of working management DB. First, the design of working management DB for public works consists of three DBs - process management to analyze work plan and performance. for backhoe loader, working management and resources management for equipment and labor management - in connection with work and resources classification system. Secondly, the working management system for public works can describe work plan and performance on a floor plan using graphic. Based on this, the status of process and progress report with visual expression had been developed to facilitate the communications and performance of duties among staff in charge at the field of public works. This study is a specialized system for a company specializing in public works and a system that can be put into practical use if practicality is proved through test-bed with regard to business.

The management of mega construction projects which incorporate a large number of stakeholders, technologies, data, work culture etc., is cumbersome. The experts in the construction arena advocate that interface management serves as a precise tool in resolving these conflict points due to the intricate nature of the construction projects. Interface management is a current trending management practice in the construction industry which is also a beneficiary to mega/fast track projects in enhancing the project performance. The main objective of this study is to validate a model for assessing the relationships among interface management, IT applications, project performance & project benefits. The mediating effect of interface management in relationship between project performance & interfacial factors was also investigated. The research model was validated using PLS-SEM (Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling) approach. Data were collected from clients, contractors, consultants in large scale projects through questionnaire survey and smart-PLS software was used to analyse the conceptual model. The research model comprises eleven hypothesis and the significance of these hypothesis were tested using T- statistics values. The research implies that people/participants factor is greatly influenced by interface management with the path coefficient of 0.608 and also enhancement of project's schedule performance due to the interface management is strongly appealing (Path coefficient = 0.711). The results also reveal IT application is significantly associated with interface management practice (Path coefficient =0.723) and also the effect of IT application on project performance (schedule, cost, quality & safety) is successfully mediated through interface management practice. The practical application of this validated model was done through case study. The case study aims at measuring the impact of interface management on interfacial factors and role of interface management in improving the project performance in the construction organisations.

As electric power systems have been moving from vertically integrated utilities to a deregulated environment, the charging of reactive power management is a new challenging them for market operators. This paper proposes a new methodology to compute the costs of providing reactive power management service in a competitive electrical power market. The proposed formulation, which is basically different from those shown in the literature, consists of two parts. One is to recover investment capital costs of reactive power supporting equipment based on a reactive power flow tracing algorithm. The other is to recover operational costs based on variable spot prices using the optimal power flow algorithm. The charging shapes resulted from the proposed approach exhibit a quite good meaning viewed from a practical sense. It turns out that reactive power charged are mostly due to recovery of capital costs and slightly due to recovery of operational costs. The methods can be useful in providing additional insight into power system operation and can be used to determined tariffs of a reactive power management service.

Dosan Seowon, one of the earliest and most prestigious private Confucian academies in Korea, is an example of a heritage property citizens wish to sustain for the benefit of future generations. It is recognized of its contribution to the Korean society and as an architectural and historical interest. This study conducts architectural and cultural research about Dosan Seowon by scrutinizing its evidential, historical, aesthetic and spatial values. By doing so, it is possible to recognize how appreciated qualities are vulnerable to harm through only understanding their heritage values without practical management solutions. That understanding should then provide the basis for developing and implementing management strategies (including maintenance, cyclical renewal and repair) that will best sustain the heritage values in a physical aspect. The conclusion suggests that communication about Dosan Seowon among those who are concerened is significant.

In many applications for display with LED, the thermal behavior of LED is most important issue in view of thermal management. The optical requirements of the displays for various applications make the designer to drive the LED at or over their on-design condition to achieve performances requested by users. The drawing information takes the most essential part of construction information. The management of construction information through drawing information facilitates input, output and search process, thus helping maximize the usage of construction information by effectively sharing construction experience and drawing information. This paper shows how construction information can effectively used to increase the productivity of the construction process as a whole. Construction information was extracted and classified by the elements of building which are the basic and very end components of building, to accumulate information of each construction phase. Based on the result, the Element Breakdown Structure(EBS) was developed for the practical usage of construction information integration.

Since the emergence of Internet service, the revenue from e-commerce has been exponentially growing. Especially, the consumption by men in online retailers is distinctively different from that in traditional bricks-and-mortar retailers. Facing these interesting phenomena, researchers as well as businesses have begun to pay attention to e-commerce and online consumers. However, research on consumer behaviors in the online channel has not made a careful investigation into gender behavioral differences in the online channel. Therefore, we provide a profound understanding of gender differences in online shopping behavior compared to those in offline shopping behaviors. Through our findings from this research, we draw researchers' attention to consumer behavior in the online channel, gender differences in online shopping. Also, we suggest practical implications to online marketers using data collected from one of the major online retailers.
