Implementation and Test of 3-level NPC VSC-HVDC System using Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation (Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation을 이용한 3-레벨 NPC 전압형 HVDC 시스템 구현 및 테스트)

  • Recently, applications of VSC-HVDC systems to power systems are growing because of their control ability of reactive power. Meanwhile, the hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) based on the real-time digital simulator has been applying to develop and test imbedded controllers and systems in the power industry to decrease costs and to save time. In this paper, a 3-level neutral point clamped (NPC) VSC-HVDC system is modeled and the embedded controllers of the NPC VSC-HVDC system are designed. The designed controllers are implemented by TMS320F28335. The TMS320F28335-based controllers of the NPC VSC-HVDC system are tested using the HILS.

A Study on Proposing Practicable Configurations against Propeller Racing for SOFC/GT Hybrid System in Ships (프로펠러 레이싱에 대비한 SOFC/GT 하이브리드시스템의 대책 방안에 관한 기초적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose practicable configurations against Rapid Load Down like propeller racing of ships which have been using SOFC/GT hybrid system on board. This paper suggests four kinds of countermeasures against propeller racing. The types A and B keep a fixed load of SOFC and save a surplus electric power to a storage system. In types of C and D, the load of SOFC is changed with the propeller racing. The best desirable countermeasure for Rapid Load Down depends upon the size of the ship, the propulsion power, and the characteristics of the engine system.

  • This paper presents the design guide of a LED red-light for naval vessels. Power consumption, luminous flux and optical characteristics of a conventional FL red-light were analyzed. Spectrum of the red-light is in ranges of 600~780 [nm]. Power consumption and luminous efficacy are 26.9 [W] and 1.1 [lm/W], respectively. From the experimental results, we proposed a 5 [W] LED red-light which save power consumption by 80 [%] and increase luminous flux over 500 [%].

  • This paper presents a DTMB deinterleaver structure to reduce SDRAM power consumption. DTMB, the Chinese digital TV standard, has a deinterleaver that consists of many long delay buffers. SDRAM is used for this deinterleaver. The proposed structure pairs data and transfer a pair with an SDRAM transfer. With the reduction of the SDRAM operation number, the proposed structure can save the SDRAM power consumption by around 35%.

  • Ridger and vinyl mulcher for 8-10 PS power tiller which were distributed at the rate of one out of 2.3 farm households in Korea, was developed to ease the labor shortage of tobacco production. Devices wheel shaft extension by 30cm at both sides improved the stability of straight drive and enabled to save required labor hours by 50% for ridging at sloping field. Screw type blades were attached on center drive rotavator shaft, gear set was deviled to reverse the rotavator, and it was good at need to adjust the width and height for ridge. As the results, required labor hours for ridging and vinyl mulching could be saved by 90% as compared to conventional manual method after cattle plowing, and by 50% as compared to conventional power tiller method.

  • This paper describes on the development of power monitoring system using microprocessor. The detecting power system is composed of main controller system and analyzing software. The system detected voltage, current temperature, leakage current and its saved in ROM. This system applies the 'AT89C52' to CPU and 'AM29F040B' used a memory to save the data.

  • It is practical nowadays to automate data recording in order to prevent loss and tampering of records. There are existing technologies that satisfy this needs and one of them is wireless sensor networks (WSN). Wireless body sensor networks (WBSN) are wireless networks and information-processing systems which are deployed to monitor medical condition of patients. In terms of performance, WBSNs are restricted by energy, and communication between nodes. In this paper, we focused in improving the performance of communication to achieve less energy consumption and to save power. The main idea of this paper is to prioritize nodes that exhibit a sudden change of vital signs that could put the patient at risk. Cluster head is the main focus of this study in order to be effective; its main role is to check the sent data of the patient that exceeds threshold then transfer to the sink node. The proposed scheme implemented added a time-based protocol to sleep/wakeup mechanism for the sensor nodes. We seek to achieve a low energy consumption and significant throughput in this study.

  • This paper proposes a GAs-applied method for power system planning using series capacitors in order to control the flow of power as desired and utilize the existing transmission facilities to its transfer capacity limits. The control strategy problem is formulated as optimization problem. Also, in employing genetic algorithms to solve the optimization problems, real variable-based genetic algorithm is presented to save the coding processing time and obtain more accurate value of the variable. An application to IEEE 57-bus test system proves that the proposed method is effective for improvement of power system transfer capacity.

  • Nonlinear loads change the sinusoidal nature of the ac power current, thereby resulting in the flow of harmonic currents in the ac power system that can cause interference with communication circuits and other type of equipment. To minimize the damage, it is needed to limit harmonics current and voltage. Harmonic measurement system was developed to measure individual voltage and current harmonic continuously and save harmonic data on computer. We measured all 154kV feeders in a steel making company substation. Voltage and current distortion limits for general transmission systems was suggested We found some feeders exceeded current distortion limits. As result voltage harmonic exceeded standard limits.

  • We propose new routing scheme, Cooperative Diversity-based Routing (CDR)which utilize the cooperative space diversity for power saving and for performance enhancement of wireless ad-hoc networks. The end-to-end performance of the proposed routing, CDR, is analyzed based on the Haenggi's link model. The improved performance is compared with Multi-hop Relay Routing (MRR) by analytical methods. When the required outage probability is $1{\times}10^{-3}$ at the destination node in ad-hoc networks with 7 nodes, we noticed that each node can save power consumption by 21.5 dB in average, by using our proposed CDR compared to MRR.
