The study investigated the impact of substrate pretreatment on depositing high-quality B-doped diamond (BDD) thin films using the HFCVD method. Films were deposited on Si and Nb substrates after sanding and seeding. Despite identical sanding conditions, BDD films formed faster on Nb due to even diamond seed distribution. Post-deposition, film average roughness (Ra) remained similar to substrate Ra, but higher substrate Ra led to decreased crystallinity. Nb substrate with 0.83 ㎛ Ra exhibited faster crystal growth due to dense, evenly distributed diamond seeds. BDD film on Nb with 0.83 ㎛ Ra showed a wide, stable potential window (2.8 eV) in CV results and a prominent 1332 cm-1 diamond peak in Raman spectroscopy, indicating high quality. The findings underscore the critical role of substrate pretreatment in achieving high-quality BDD film fabrication, crucial for applications demanding robust p-type semiconductors with superior electrical properties.
On March 11, 2011, an earthquake followed by a tsunami caused an extended station blackout (SBO) at the Fukushima Dai-ichi NPP Units. The accident was initiated by a total loss of both onsite and offsite electrical power resulting in the loss of the ultimate heat sink for several days, and a consequent core melt in some units where proper mitigation strategies could not be implemented in a timely fashion. To enhance the plant's coping capability, the Diverse and Flexible Strategies (FLEX) were proposed to append the Emergency Operation Procedures (EOPs) by relying on portable equipment as an additional line of defense. To assess the success window of FLEX strategies, all sources of uncertainties need to be considered, using a physics-based model or system code. This necessitates conducting a large number of simulations to reflect all potential variations in initial, boundary, and design conditions as well as thermophysical properties, empirical models, and scenario uncertainties. Alternatively, data-driven models may provide a fast tool to predict the success window of FLEX strategies given the underlying uncertainties. This paper explores the applicability of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify the success window of FLEX strategy for extended SBO. The developed model can be trained and validated using data produced by the lumped parameter thermal-hydraulic code, MARS-KS, as best estimate system code loosely coupled with Dakota for uncertainty quantification. A Systems Engineering (SE) approach is used to plan and manage the process of using AI to predict the success window of FLEX strategies under extended SBO conditions.
A clinically oriented 32-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) and evoked potential (EP) mapping system has been developed EEG and EP signals acquired from 32-channel electrodes attached on the heroid surface are amplified by a pre-amplifier which is separated from main amplifier and is located near the patient to reduce signal attenuation and noise contamination between electrodes and the amplifier. The amplified signals are further amplified by a main amplifier where various filtering and gain contr61 are achieved An automatic artifact rejection scheme is employed using neural network-based EEG and artifact classifier, by which examination time is substantially reduce4 The continuously measured EEG sigrlals are used for spectral mapping, and auditory and visual evoked potentials measured in synchronous to the auditory and visual stimuli are used for temporal evoked potential mapping. A user-friendly graphical interface based on the Microsoft Window 3.1 is developed for the operation of the system. Statistical databases for comparisons of group and individual are included to support a statistically-based diagnosis.
A large cross-section pulsed electron beam generator of cold cathode type has been developed for industrial applications, for example, waste water cleaning, flue gas cleaning, and pasteurization etc. The operational principle is based on the emission of secondary electrons from cold cathode when ions in the plasma hit the cathode, which are accelerated toward exit window by the gradient of an electric potential. The conventional electron beam generators need an electron scanning beam because the small cross section thermal electron emitter is used. The electron beam of large cross-section pulsed electron beam generator do not need to be scanned over target material because the beam cross section is large by 300$cm^2$. We have fabricated the large cross-sectional pulsed electron beam generator with the peak energy of 200keV and beam diameter of 200mm and obtained the large area electron beam in the air. The electron beam current has been investigated as a function of accelerating voltage, glow discharge current, helium pressure, distance from the exit window and radial distribution in front of the exit window.
Though they have advantages in terms of aesthetic in modern architecture, however, rectangular-shaped towers causes being short of natural light due to deep interior space. There are compromised attempts to take advantages of each building shape selectively. As a result, we now witness the advent of Y-shaped, T-shaped, V-shaped and ㅈ-shaped buildings on the market. The mutative type of apartment houses usually faces southwest or southeast, which has lot of daylighting availability but anyhow, the proportion of the apartment houses which have a full south aspect. The need to verify the potential of daylighting in new building-block shapes exists. At the same time, the expansion of balcony area was legalized and thus, a visual buffer area does not exist any more. All-glass window wall on apartment houses without a balcony produces pretty harmful area with direct sunbeam. Recently, the refurbished version of conventional windows has been developed for the purposed of minimizing energy loss occurred around windows. This research initialized a series of research to deal with almost all on window wall for apartment houses. First of all, huge amount of already-designed examples of apartment houses have been analyzed in terms of floor plan, elevation, orientation and glazing materials.
The number of apartment houses has accounted for more than 50% of all domestic residential types in Korea since 1980s. However, the apartment house has environmentally disadvantageous conditions such as highly residential-density and potential falls by children aged seven years and under through windows. In this study, we aim to suggest some ideas to improve domestic performance assessment methods and criteria of window Insect screens for protection on security and fall prevention by analyzing domestic standard with several overseas codes related to the screens for windows.
Computer generated holography (CGH) is technology for generating holograms of synthetic, three dimensional (3D) objects which may not exist in the physical world. The process, however, requires heavy amount of computation as the resolution of a hologram is significantly higher than that of a typical optical image. This paper reviews four modern techniques for fast generation of digital Fresnel holograms which are important in the development of holographic video systems. The methods that will be described include the virtual window, sub-line, wavefront recording plane (WRP), and the interpolative WRP schemes. These works share the common objective to generate digital Fresnel hologram at a speed that is close to the video frame rate, and with complexity which is realizable with affordable computing and reconfigurable hardware devices. The author will present the principles and realization of these works, as well as some potential area of research in digital holography.
CpG is the pair of nucleotides C and G, appearing successively, in this order, along one DNA strand. It is known that due to biochemical considerations CpG is relatively rare in most DNA sequences. However, in particular subsequences, which are a few hundred to a few thousand nucleotides long, the couple CpG is more frequent. These subsequences, called CpG islands, are known to appear in biologically more significant parts of the genome. The ability to identify CpG islands along a chromosome will therefore help us spot its more significant regions of interest, such as the promoters or 'start' regions of many genes. In this respect, I developed the CpG islands search tool, CpG Islands Detector, which was implemented in JAVA to be run on any platform. The window-based graphical user interface of CpG Islands Detector may facilitate the end user to employ this tool to pinpoint CpG islands in a genomic DNA sequence. In addition, this tool can be used to highlight potential genes in genomic sequences since CpG islands are very often found in the 5' regions of vertebrate genes.
This study presents test results of a residential window system air-conditioner using R22 and two potential alternative refrigerants, R407C and R410B. A series of performance tests was performed for the basic and liquid-suction heat exchange cycle in a psychrometric calorimeter test facility. For R407C, the same rotary compressor was used as in the R22 system. However, compressor for the R410B system was modified to provide the similar cooling capacity. The evaporator circuit was changed to get a counter-cross flow heat exchanger to take advantage of zeotropic mixture's temperature glide, and liquid-line suction-line heat exchange cycle was also considered to improve the performance of the system. Test results were compared to those for the basic R22 system.
This study proposed how to identify window defects by using photos uploaded by occupants during the pre-handover inspection of mulch-family housing. A total of 1168 door images were acquired to generate training data and validation data. Subsequently, through the proposed algorithms, every pixel in images labeled a door was binarized using the OTSU threshold, and then dark pixels were identified as defects. Experimental results demonstrated that our computer vision-based defects identification method detects the door with a recall of 57.9%, and door defects with 63.6%. Although it is still a challenge to automatically identify building defects because of the distortion and brightness of photos, this study has the potential to support better defects management. Ultimately, the improved pre-handover inspection may lead to increased customer satisfaction.
