The effects of nanotexturing and post-etching on the reflection and quantum efficiency properties of diamond wire sawn (DWS) multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si) solar cell have been investigated. The chemical solutions, which are acidic etching solution (HF-$HNO_3$), metal assisted chemical etching (MAC etch) solutions ($AgNO_3$-HF-DI, HF-$H_2O_2$-DI) and post-etching solution (diluted KOH at $80^{\circ}C$), were used for micro- and nano-texturing at the surface of diamond wire sawn (DWS) mc-Si wafer. Experiments were performed with various post-etching time conditions in order to determine the optimized etching condition for solar cell. The reflectance of mc-Si wafer texturing with acidic etching solution showed a very high reflectance value of about 30% (w/o anti-reflection coating), which indicates the insufficient light absorption for solar cell. The formation of nano-texture on the surface of mc-Si contributed to the enhancement of light absorption. Also, post-etching time condition of 240 s was found adequate to the nano-texturing of mc-Si due to its high external quantum efficiency of about 30% at short wavelengths and high short circuit current density ($J_{sc}$) of $35.4mA/cm^2$.
Intensity modulated photovoltage spectroscopy (IMVS) analysis of organic solar cells (OSCs) with a bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) film composed of P3HT and $PC_{61}BM$ was performed. The dynamic response of charge recombination by the post-annealing approach in $P3HT/PC_{61}BM$ BHJ solar cells characterized by IMVS demonstrated that post-annealing reduced the recombination of electron carriers in the device. The recombination times of $P3HT/PC_{61}BM$ BHJ solar cells post-annealed at room temperature, 80, 120, and $140^{\circ}C$ were 0.009, 0.020, 0.024, and 0.030 ms, respectively, at a short-circuit current of 0.18 mA. The results indicated that the IMVS analysis can be effectively used as powerful.
Combined nano- and micro-wires (CNMWs) Si arrays were prepared using PR patterning and silver-assisted electroless etching. A $POCl_3$ doping process was applied to the fabrication of CNMWs solar cells. KOH solution was used to remove bundles in CNMWs and the etching time was varied from 30 to 240 s. The lowest reflectance of 3.83% was obtained at KOH etching time of 30 s, but the highest carrier lifetime of $354{\mu}s$ was observed after the doping process at 60 s. At the same etching time, a $V_{oc}$ of 574 mV, $J_{sc}$ of $28.41mA/cm^2$, FF of 74.4%, and Eff. of 12.2% were achieved in the CNMWs solar cell. CNMWs solar cells have potential for higher efficiency by improving the post-process and surface-rear side structure.
High efficiency $Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$ solar cells are generally prepared above $500^{\circ}C$. Lowering the process temperature can allow wider selection of substrate material and process window. In this paper, the three-stage co-evaporation process widely used to grow CIGS thin film at high temperature was modified to reduce the maximum substrate temperature. Below $400^{\circ}C$ the CIGS films show poor crystal growth and lower solar cell performance, in spite of external Na doping by NaF. As a new approach, Cu source instead of Cu with Se in the second stage was applied on the $(In,Ga)_2Se_3$ precursor at $400^{\circ}C$ and achieved a better crystal growth. The distribution of Ga in the films produce by new method were investigated and solar cells were fabricated using these films.
New photovoltaic (PV) materials and manufacturing approaches are needed for meeting the demand for lower-cost solar cells. The prototypal thin-film photovoltaic absorbers (CdTe and $Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$) can achieve solar conversion efficiencies of up to 20% and are now commercially available, but the presence of toxic (Cd,Se) and expensive elemental components (In, Te) is a real issue as the demand for photovoltaics rapidly increases. To overcome these limitations, there has been substantial interest in developing viable alternative materials, such as $Cu_2ZnSnS_4$ (CZTS) is an emerging solar absorber that is structurally similar to CIGS, but contains only earth abundant, non-toxic elements and has a near optimal direct band gap energy of 1.4~1.6 ev and a large absorption coefficient of ${\sim}10^4\;cm^{-1}$. The CZTS absorber layers are grown and investigated by various fabrication methods, such as thermal evaporation, e-beam evaporation with a post sulfurization, sputtering, non-vacuum sol-gel, pulsed laser, spray-pyrolysis method and electrodeposition technique. In the present work, we report an alternative method for large area deposition of CZTS thin films that is potentially high throughput and inexpensive when used to produce monolithically integrated solar panel modules. Specifically, we have developed an aqueous chemical approach based on chemical bath deposition (CBD) with a subsequent sulfurization heat treatment. Samples produced by our method were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, absorbance and photoluminescence. The results show that this inexpensive and relatively benign process produces thin films of CZTS exhibiting uniform composition, kesterite crystal structure, and good optical properties. A preliminary solar cell device was fabricated to demonstrate rectifying and photovoltaic behavior.
In this study, an efficient dye-sensitive solar cells (DSSC) was developed after post-treatment of ZnO on $TiO_2$ photoelectrode. The $TiO_2$ electrode with ZnO post treatment was prepared with Titanium isoporopoxide in Zinc Nitrate Hexahydrate aqueous solution by incineration for 30 min at $450^{\circ}C$. The ZnO-post treated $TiO_2$ electrode showed strong dispersion force between particles in relation to the control $TiO_2$, referring high specific surface area and dye-adsorption rate. Proper addition of ZnO enhanced electron mobility and reduced internal resistance and electron recombination. Light conversion efficiency of DSSCs containing the ZnO-posttreated $TiO_2$ electrode increased 35.4% when compared to the DSSCs using $TiO_2$ electrode. It is similar to the DSSCs with $TiCl_4$ post treatment $TiO_2$ electrode. Increasing of light conversion efficiency was due to high specific surface area and dispersion force, and low dye-adsorption rate and electron recombination. Taken together, ZnO may be used as posttreatment of photoelectrode and replaced $TiCl_4$ that has high toxicity and causticity.
We demonstrated that the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of bilayer solar cell was significantly enhanced by inserting interfacial layer between the organic bilayer film and the Al electrode. Moreover, the water contact angle shows that the bilayer solar cells suffer from the undesirable surface component which limits the charge transport to the Al electrode. The AFM measurement has revealed that the pre- and post-thermal annealing treatments results in different morphologies of the interfacial layer which is critical for the higher PCE of the bilayer solar cells. Furthermore we have investigated the electrical properties of the bilayer solar cells and obtained insights into the detailed device mechanisms. The transient photovoltage measurements suggests that the significantly enhanced Voc is caused by reducing the recombination at the interface between the organic films and the Al electrode. By inserting the TiO2 layer between the bilayer film and Al electrode, the open circuit voltage (Voc) was increased from 0.37 to 0.66V. Consequently, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of bilayer solar cells was significantly enhanced from 1.23% to 3.71%. As the results, the TiO2 interfacial layer can be used to form an ohmic contact layer, serveing as a blocking layer to prevent the penetration of the Al, and to reduce the recombination at the interface.
The most important parameter of organic molecules for energy harvesting application focuses mainly on their band gap (HOMO-LUMO). In this report, we synthesized differently substituted 1,3,5-triazine based organic molecule which on future processing can be used in organic electronics like solar cells and OLED's. The energy gap of the synthesized novel analogue was calculated using cyclic voltammetry, UV-Visible spectroscopy and compared with density functional theory (DFT) studies.

Different kinds of post-deposition annealing (PDA) by a rapid thermal process (RTP) are used to enhance the field-effect passivation of $Al_2O_3$ film in crystal Si solar cells. To characterize the effects of PDA on $Al_2O_3$ and the interface, metal-insulator semiconductor (MIS) devices were fabricated. The effects of PDA were characterized as functions of RTP temperature from $400{\sim}700^{\circ}C$ and RTP time from 30~120 s. A high temperature PDA can retard the passivation of thin $Al_2O_3$ film in c-Si solar cells. PDA by RTP at $400^{\circ}C$ results in better passivation than a PDA at $400^{\circ}C$ in forming gas ($H_2$ 4% in $N_2$) for 30 minutes. A high thermal budget causes blistering on $Al_2O_3$ film, which degrades its thermal stability and effective lifetime. It is related to the film structure, deposition temperature, thickness of the film, and annealing temperature. RTP shows the possibility of being applied to the PDA of $Al_2O_3$ film. Optimal PDA conditions should be studied for specific $Al_2O_3$ films, considering blistering.
