Robust frame synchronization algorithm in time-varying underwater acoustic communication channel (수중 음향통신에서 채널 시변동성에 강인한 프레임 동기 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose a frame synchronization algorithm for robust to the combined effects of large Doppler fluctuations and extended, time-varying multipath in the underwater acoustic communication. From the algorithm, we can recover a high timing error which is occurred from an acoustic propagation delay and uncertainty of oscillator between transmitter and receiver. In order to verify the performance of the synchronization algorithm, the lake trial results are used. The lake experiments are performed in a Gyeongcheonho located in Mungyeong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. We can see that the start position of frame is adjusted after the frame synchronization while the receiver moving.

  • In OFDMA system, multiple users transmit signal through the subcarriers assigned to the user. Capabilities of high data-rate transmission in OFDMA system come from the ability to compensate the ICI (Inter Carrier Interference) using a single-tap equalizer and to implement transmitter and receiver by employing high speed FFT circuitry. Issues of time and frequency synchronization in OFDM system is quite essential to preserve the orthogonality among subcarriers not to produce ICI. In this paper, we Int analyze the preamble used in 802.16 d/e and WiBro system. Then we propose an effective timing synchronization algorithm, which is more accurate than the conventional one in the sense of timing position, and integral frequency offset estimation scheme for the simultaneouse estimation of the fractional and integral frequency offset. Through the simulation utilizing the proposed synchronization algorithm and structure, we show that the performance degradation due to the adjacent channel interference can be mitigated for the than conventional ones.

  • In this study, a methodology of synchronous control which can be applied to position synchronization of a multi-axes driving system has been developed. The synchronous error is caused by model uncertainties and disturbance at each axis. To overcome these problems, the synchronous control system of each axis has been composed of reference model, speed and synchronous controllers. The speed control system has been designed to follow speed reference. And the synchronous controller has been designed to keep minimizing the position synchronous error by reference model and H$\sub$ / approach. By the proposed method, position synchronous control system can be easily extended to two or more axes driving system. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been demonstrated by experiment.

  • Recently, with the development of service robots and the concept of ubiquitous, the position estimation of mobile objects has received great interest. Some of the localization schemes are introduced, which provide the relative location of the moving objects subjected to accumulated errors. To implement a real time localization system, a new absolute position estimation method for a mobile robot in indoor environment is proposed. Design and implementation of the localization system comes from the usage of active beacon systems (based upon RFID technology). The active beacon system is composed of an RFID receiver and an ultra-sonic transmitter. The RFID receiver gets the synchronization signal from the mobile robot and the ultra-sonic transmitter sends out the traveling signal to be used for measuring the distance. Position of a mobile robot in a three dimensional space can be calculated basically from the distance information from three beacons and the absolute position information of the beacons themselves. In some case, the mobile robot can acquire the ultrasonic signals from only one or two beacons, due to the obstacles located along the moving path. In this paper, a position estimation scheme using fewer than three sensors is developed. Also, the extended Kalman filter algorithm is applied for the improvement of position estimation accuracy of the mobile robot.

  • Mobile Mapping System is an effective wav to obtain position and image using vehicle equipped with GPS(Global Positioning System), IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit), and CCD camera. It have been used various fields of load facility management, map upgrade and etc. It is difficult to upgrade Mobile Mopping System which is developed from abroad and add other sensors because we don't know the way to integrate and synchronize multi-sensors. In this paper, we present the effective way of the integration and synchronization method for multi sensors we designed and manufactured Synchronization equipment by considering sensors of laser, odometer and etc.

Signal synchronization method for depth information transmission of high-speed underwater vehicle (고속 수중 이동체의 심도 정보 전송을 위한 신호 동기화 기법)

  • This paper deals with a method of transmitting depth information of a high-speed underwater vehicle. The depth information signal transmitted from the high-speed mobile object is received with high frequency variability. In the proposed method, we apply not only frequency synchronization but also additional synchronization on the time axis like the existing method. In the case of a Doppler frequency bank with less resolution than the conventional method through simulations performed in the environment moving up to 50 kn, and the depth information is recovered using the proposed method, the error rate of 6 % ~ 9 % is reduced to 0.2 % ~ 1 %.

  • This paper presents the design of an SSIC chip for synchronization between main and sub pictures in the multi channel TV system (MUCTS). This chip can resolve problems in MUCTS, such as passing through and vertical jolt phenomena. In addition, this chip rpvivides compatibility for normal/doulble scan, interlace/progressive and normal (4:3)/wide (16:9) systems and has high hjorizontal and vertical resolutions (340) dots and 150 lines). In each mode there are 1 channel, 3 channel, and 4 position display functions. This MUCTS chip including three A/D coverters, a D/A converter and seven line memories was fabricated with one chip by using the $0.8\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology. The application areas of this MUCTS ASIC chip include the wide TV, projection TV and te next generation TV for the DBS (direct broadcast system).

AoA-Based Local Positioning System Using a Time-Modulated Array

  • In this paper, we propose an angle-of-arrival (AoA)-based local positioning system using a time-modulated array (TMA). The proposed system can determine a two-dimensional position using only two TMAs without any synchronization between the two receivers. The hardware for the proposed system consists of two commercial monopole antennas, a self-designed switch, and a well-known software-defined radio receiver. Furthermore, the location can be simply estimated in real time without the need for complicated positioning algorithms such as the MUSIC and ESPRIT algorithms. In order to evaluate the performance of our system, we estimated the position of the wireless node in an office environment. The position was estimated with a mean error of less than 0.1 m. We therefore believe that our system is appropriate for various wireless local positioning applications.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of pulse position modulation-time hopping ultra wide band (PPM-TH UWB) systems with antenna diversity technique in indoor wireless channel. A modified Saleh and Valenzuela (SV) model is adopted as a UWB indoor channel model. Perfect synchronization between a transmitter and a receiver is assumed. Therefore, coherent equal gain combining (EGC) scheme to collect the energy available in the multipath components is investigated. It is shown that the performance is improved by increasing the number of antennas at the receiver. The results of this paper can be applied to the applications of UWB.

  • Synchronization including timing recovery, frequency offset compensation, and frame synchronization is most important signal processing block in all wireless/wired communication systems. In most communication systems, synchronization schemes based on training sequences or preambles are used. WLAN standards of 802.11a/g/n released by IEEE are based on OFDM systems. OFDM systems are known to be much more sensitive to frequency and timing synchronization errors than single carrier systems. A loss of orthogonality between the multiplexed subcarriers can result in severe performance degradations. The starting position of the frame and the beginning of the symbol and training symbol can be estimated using correlation methods. Correlation processing functionality is usually complex because of large number of multipliers in implementation especially when the reference signal is non-binary. In this paper, a simple correlation based synchronization scheme is proposed for IEEE 802.11a/g/n systems. Existing property of a periodicity in the training symbols are exploited. Simulation and implementation results show that the proposed method has much smaller complexity without any performance degradation than the existing schemes.
