For hard rock subsea tunnels the most challenging rock mass conditions are in most cases represented by major faults/weakness zones. Poor stability weakness zones with large water inflow can be particularly problematic. At the pre-construction investigation stage, geological and engineering geological mapping, refraction seismic investigation and core drilling are the most important methods for identifying potentially adverse rock mass conditions. During excavation, continuous engineering geological mapping and probe drilling ahead of the face are carried out, and for the most recent Norwegian subsea tunnel projects, MWD (Measurement While Drilling) has also been used. During excavation, grouting ahead of the tunnel face is carried out whenever required according to the results from probe drilling. Sealing of water inflow by pre-grouting is particularly important before tunnelling into a section of poor rock mass quality. When excavating through weakness zones, a special methodology is normally applied, including spiling bolts, short blast round lengths and installation of reinforced sprayed concrete arches close to the face. The basic aspects of investigation, support and tunnelling for major weakness zones are discussed in this paper and illustrated by cases representing two very challenging projects which were recently completed (Atlantic Ocean tunnel and T-connection), one which is under construction (Ryfast) and one which is planned to be built in the near future (Rogfast).
A BNR comprehensive performance evaluation (BNR CPE) system was established employing system-oriented evaluation methodology for biological nutrient removal (BNR) processes based on the CPE techniques developed by U.S. EPA for evaluation of conventional biological processes. The BNR CPE system applied to five domestic BNR plants adopting $A^2/O$ process confirmed that all target plants except the smallest one had not any serious defective performance and process stability was enhanced with increasing plant size. The system also clearly verified relatively poor performances in anoxic reactors without exception mainly due to influent carbon limit rather than functional defect. Consistent good performances were confirmed even during both winter season and wet weather generally known to be difficult to achieve satisfactory removals. Presentation of evaluation results by modified radar chart system simplified and clarified the evaluation and analysis procedures. The BNR CPE system could not only discover readily the causes of present and prospective poor performances but also facilitate the suggestion of their optimization options. Mutual effect and cause-and-effect among operation parameters and unit processes were also found easily using the evaluation system. The system justified that the adverse effect of defective operating parameters could be compensated by other favorable parameters, especially in anaerobic and anoxic reactors as well as during the winter season.
The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is being deployed by GSM network operators world-wide, and promises to provide users with “always-on” data access at bandwidths comparable to that of conventional fixed-wire telephone modems. However, many users have found the reality to be rather different, experiencing very disappointing performance when, for example, browsing the web over GPRS. In this paper, we examine the causes, and show how unfortunate interactions between the GPRS link characteristics and TCP/IP protocols lead to poor performance. A performance characterization of the GPRS link-layer is presented, determined through extensive measurements taken over production networks. We present measurements of packet loss rates, bandwidth availability, link stability, and round-trip time. The effect these characteristics have on TCP behavior are examined, demonstrating how they can result in poor link utilization, excessive packet queueing, and slow recovery from packet losses. Further, we show that the HTTP protocol can compound these issues, leading to dire WWW performance. We go on to show how the use of a transparent proxy interposed near the wired-wireless border can be used to alleviate many of these performance issues without requiring changes to either client or server end systems.
The high theoretical energy density ($2600Wh\;kg^{-1}$) of Lithium-sulfur batteries and the high theoretical capacity of elemental sulfur ($1672mAh\;g^{-1}$) attract significant research attention. However, the poor electrical conductivity of sulfur and the polysulfide shuttle effect are chronic problems resulting in low sulfur utilization and poor cycling stability. In this study, we address these problems by coating a polyethylene separator with a layer of activated carbon powder. A lithium-sulfur cell containing the activated carbon powder-coated separator exhibits an initial specific discharge capacity of $1400mAh\;g^{-1}$ at 0.1 C, and retains 63% of the initial capacity after 100 cycles at 0.2 C, whereas the equivalent cell with a bare separator exhibits a $1200mAh\;g^{-1}$ initial specific discharge capacity, and 50% capacity retention under the same conditions. The activated carbon powder-coated separator also enhances the rate capability. These results indicate that the microstructure of the activated carbon powder layer provides space for the sulfur redox reaction and facilitates fast electron transport. Concurrently, the activated carbon powder layer traps and reutilizes any polysulfides dissolved in the electrolyte. The approach presented here provides insights for overcoming the problems associated with lithium-sulfur batteries and promoting their practical use.
Nickel-rich lithium nickel-cobalt-manganese oxides (NCM) are viewed as promising cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs); however, their poor cycling performance at high temperature is a critical hurdle preventing expansion of their applications. We propose the use of a functional electrolyte additive, triphenyl phosphate (TPPa), which can form an effective cathode-electrolyte interphase (CEI) layer on the surface of Ni-rich NCM cathode material by electrochemical reactions. Linear sweep voltammetry confirms that the TPPa additive is electrochemically oxidized at around 4.83 V (vs. Li/Li+) and it participates in the formation of a CEI layer on the surface of NCM811 cathode material. During high temperature cycling, TPPa greatly improves the cycling performance of NCM811 cathode material, as a cell cycled with TPPa-containing electrolyte exhibits a retention (133.7 mA h g-1) of 63.5%, while a cell cycled with standard electrolyte shows poor cycling retention (51.3%, 108.3 mA h g-1). Further systematic analyses on recovered NCM811 cathodes demonstrate the effectiveness of the TPPa-based CEI layer in the cell, as electrolyte decomposition is suppressed in the cell cycled with TPPa-containing electrolyte. This confirms that TPPa is effective at increasing the surface stability of NCM811 cathode material because the TPPa-initiated POx-based CEI layer prevents electrolyte decomposition in the cell even at high temperatures.

The Housing Lease Protection Act was enacted from March 5, 1981 as Law No. 3379 to guarantee the stability of residential life and legal status. After then, there were many problems, but through several times revision, it had improved insufficient part. However, in order to give guarantees actually the position strengthen for homeless poor people many issues still need to be solved and it has been raised. Along the way, with the introduction of the tenant renewal claims, in February 14, 2015, the National Assembly planned to discuss current issues by operating the Special Committee for housing welfare of ordinary people in the extra session. In the current, however, the conflict of the pros and cons is shown clearly. Meanwhile, because the contract renewal claim of tenant was not guaranteed, if the minimum duration of the lease will be lapsed, contract renewal is dependent on the intention of landlord. Thus, the residential stability of homeless poor could become unstable. Therefore, in this paper, to stabilize the residential living for tenants who are in poor status, analyze our term of existence regulation and through the compared to the national legislation about the term of existence, it will try to propose the specific legislative approach to the problem.

Objective : This prospective study sought to verify the stability of three types of short implants measuring 7mm or less. Materials and methods : Implants measuring 7mm or less were placed in patients at multicenter dental clinics in Korea, China, Taiwan, and Singapore. Initial stability, intraoperative and postoperative complications, crestal bone loss, and survival rate of the implant were prospectively evaluated. Results : The primary stability of a 6-mm implant was lower than that of a 7-mm implant. The marginal bone loss of short implants measuring less than 7mm was minimal. Complications such as wound dehiscence, implant mobility, and peri-implant mucositis developed, and these were associated with initial implant failure. The short-term survival rate of 6-mm implant was 93.7%, and that of 7-mm implant, 96.6%. Conclusion : Short implant for the mandible with insufficient height for the residual ridge can be selectively used. Poor primary stability and wound dehiscence can cause osseointegration failure and alveolar bone loss.
Fuel cell (FC) is a promising power supply in electric vehicles (EV); however, it has poor dynamic performance and short service life. To address these shortcomings, a super capacitor (SC) is adopted as an auxiliary power supply. In this study, the frequency decoupling control method is used in electric vehicle energy system. High-frequency and low-frequency demand power is provided by SC and FC, respectively, which makes full use of two power supplies. Simultaneously, the energy system still has rapidity and reliability. The distributed power system (DPS) of EV requires DC-DC converters to achieve the desired voltage. The stability of cascaded converters must be assessed. Impedance-based methods are effective in the stability analysis of DPS. In this study, closed-loop impedances of interleaved half-bridge DC-DC converter and phase-shifted full-bridge DC-DC converter based on the frequency decoupling control method are derived. The closed-loop impedance of an inverter for permanent magnet synchronous motor based on space vector modulation control method is also derived. An improved Middlebrook criterion is used to assess and adjust the stability of the energy system. A theoretical analysis and simulation test are provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the energy management system and the control method.

The Green Wall system is one of segmental concrete crib type earth retaining wall. Green wall is constructed as procedures that lay the front stretchers, rear stretchers and headers then making a rigid body through harden filled soil of interior cell. Recently, Green Wall method is applied in variable cutting ground construction because of advantage which minimize to cut base ground. In case of Green Wall method is constructed with soil nail method, expect that total system stability will increase more than flexible facing because of facing stiffness is big. However, in this case of design, facing stiffness is not considered so that is poor economy. Hence, in this study, stability increasing effect of total system analyze about that soil nail method is constructed with rigidity facing like a Green Wall method. In present study, laboratory model tests was performed for analysis on stability increasing effect of total system about changing stiffness of facing. LEM analysis conducted for evaluation on safety factor of total system sliding that facing condition changed.

The electrical properties and stability of ZPCE varistors consisted of $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Er_2O_3$ ceramics were investigated. $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Er_2O_3$ based ceramics were sintered at $1300^{\circ}C$ and $1350^{\circ}C$, respectively, without and with 0.5 mol% $Er_2O_3$. The varistors sintered at $1300^{\circ}C$ exhibited a better nonlinearity than that $1350^{\circ}C$. The varistors with $Er_2O_3$ of 0.5 mol% exhibited a high nonlinear exponent of 52.8. However, they easily degraded due to the low density below 85% of TD. On the other hand, the varistors sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ without $Er_2O_3$ exhibited an extremely poor nonlinearity, but the varistors with $Er_2O_3$ of 0.5 mol% exhibited a relatively good nonlinearity, which the nonlinear exponent is 34.8 and the leakage current is $7.4\;{\mu}A$ Morever, they exhibited a very high stability, which the variation rate of varistor voltage, nonlinear exponent, and leakage current are -0.9%, -2.9%, and +2.7%, respectively, under the third stress $(0.80 V_{1mA}/90^{\circ}C/12h)$ + $(0.85 V_{1mA}/115^{\circ}C/12h)$ + $(0.90 V_{1mA}/120^{\circ}C/12h)$. Consequently, it was estimated that $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Er_2O_3$ ceramics will be usefully applied to develop the advanced $Pr_6O_{11}$-based ZnO varistors.
