  • This was investigated on the major issues and research trends regarding the heat-treatment of woods through literature reviews. The principal heat-treatment technologies utilized for industrial purposes include the Plato-process (Netherlands), the Retification process (France), the OHT-process (Germany), and the Thermowood Process (Finland). Factors that mainly influence the heat-treatment process are the wood species, process temperature, processing time, and the heating medium (air, steam, vacuum, N2, oil, etc.). Researches on investigating the optimal conditions with these process conditions being the variables stand as the mainstream. Heat-treated woods present dimensional stability improvement, but mass loss and strength reduction, a wide variations for decaying inhibition, and insufficient resistance against mold, wood borer, and termites. For further improvement in respects of durability or resistance to biological degradation, necessity to search for more suitable heat treatment process and processing conditions fit for each wood species has been suggested. Exploiting new ways to utilize heat-treated wood and extending its range of use have been considered to be important matters that need more effort put into for the sustainable and sound environment as well as saving the wood resources.

  • An educational system using computers was first conceptualized by Dr. Donald Bitzer in the University of Illinois in the late 1950s. Since the PLATO system was developed in 1961, multilateral research were made for the last 30 years. Especially, the development of Internet and Information Technology has contributed to the advancement of the distance education system. This system has greatly changed the existing educational paradigm, As the result, new education system is being realized, This study suggests a distance education system based on ‘push’ technique, which is a means of active information transmission, In this system, the ‘push’ technique is combined with the existing distance education system. Through the combination, learning contents can be provided for learners without connecting the DB on the Internet. In addition, the process of getting new information is real-timed operation. Also, the treatment of item; and the algorithm of level-based item evaluation are devised in consideration of various levels of learners, so that evaluation of items appropriate to the levels of learners can be accomplished.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to explain the difference between Heidegger's hermeneutical philosophy and Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics. The difference is to say that Heidegger's philosophy begins with Aristotle's theory of category and transcendental philosophy. On the other hand, the beginning of Gadamer's philosophical research is Plato's dialog, philosophy and Hegels dialectic. 2. Heidegger regards humanism as a variant of the modern ideal of human beings. On the contrary, Gadamer understands humanism as a place where romantism leads to the ideals of human education. 3. Heidegger says that the hermeneutical circle is still a logical and existential structure of the circle. On the contrary, Gadamer understands the circle as a circle between the whole and the part. This circle is the law of traditional hermeneutics derived from the tradition of rhetoric. 4. Heidegger says Plato's philosophy is the first beginning of the substance metaphysic, Hegel's philosophy the end of the subject metaphysic. On the contrary, Gadamer says the hermeneutical understanding and the hermeneutical interpretation is endless. 5. Heidegger's ontology is as Sein zum Tode a future oriented and eschatological. On the contrary, Gadamer's hermeneutic is as Sein zum Text always the way to a past, the infinite openness.

  • Cavitating fluid sea ice model of Plato and Hibler (1992) is applied to the Southern Ocean with an idealized, circular Antarctica. Using climatological atmospheric forcing fields averaged in the zonal direction, we show that oceanic heat flux and ice velocity have major effects on the seasonal change of ice edge, as other studies showed. In our model results, there appears a zone of free drift that contains a polynya zone. Thermodynamic forcing functions make dominant contributions to daily increments of ice thickness and compactness, except the zones of ice edge and polynya. The dominant contributions are also shown in distributions of the temperature on ice surface and several to terms in surface heat balance equation, and are also confirmed by those obtained from the thermodynamic-only model with the different locations of ice edge.

  • We examine how the formulas of the area and the circumference of a circle related to pi in the ancient Egyptian and the Old Babylonian fields of mathematics have been controversial. In particular, the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Ahmes Papyrus Problem 48 and Moscow Mathematical Papyrus Problem 10 have raised extensive controversy over π. We propose the pi-theory of the Great Pyramid of Khufu as a dynamic symmetry based on Euclid's rectangle. In addition, we argue that the ancient Egyptian or Old Babylonian mathematics influenced Solomon's Molten Sea, Plato and Archimedes' pi.

  • The starting point of education is the ancient Greek philosophy. In this paper, we research the Hellenism culture: two famous poleis such as Sparta and Athens. Moreover, we investigate prominent philosopher Plato and Aristotle. In particular, we notice early childhood and female education through Hellenism culture. Finally, we study culture, politics and educations of the ancient Roman in order to compare those of our society.

  • Mathematical communication is an important goal of recent educational reform. The NCTM's Principle and Standards for School Mathematics, consulting an emphasis on mathematical discourse from 1991 Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics, has a Communication Standard at each grade level. This paper examines Socrates's educational philosophy and the mathematical dialogue in Plato's. Further it examines mathematical dialogues between teachers and students from antiquity through the nineteenth century.

  • The current paper discusses the two most widespread and contradictory educational philosophies of classic German Idealism and modern American pragmatism. Their perspectives of what is truth and what is the best way to distinguish the reasoning idealists from the experienced pragmatists. The implementations of Idealism and pragmatism have affected the education process for several ages and reflect various social changes. The role of schools, educators, environment, teachers, and learners are not the same in both philosophies. However, on reviewing the chronological transmission from Plato's Idealism to Dewey's pragmatism, the resemblances and differences are elaborated here with examples. Furthermore, how these philosophies helped founding advocators for perennialism, essentialism, progressivism, and reconstructionism.
