A WIG(Wing-In-Ground effect) craft flies close to the water surface by utilizing a cushion of relatively high pressurized air between its wing and water surface. This implies that when one designs such craft it is important to have lightweight structures with adequate strength to resist external loads with some margins. To investigate this requirement, this paper deals with the structural analysis of the bottom plate of small WIG craft having a design landing weight of 1.2-ton. As building materials for the WIG craft, pre-preg carbon/epoxy composites are considered. The strength information of the bottom plate is obtained using the first-ply-failure analysis in conjunction with a mid-plane symmetric laminated plate theory. As a result, the first-ply-failure location, load and deflection of the bottom plate are obtained. The calculated strength information is compared with the water reaction load for the bottom plate of seaplanes considered when they land on the water surface -the same fluid-structure interaction mechanism as that of WIG craft. In the calculation of seaplane water reaction load information, the rules shown in FAR(Federal Aviation Regulations) Part 25 are used. Through the comparison, the structural integrity of the bottom plate for the WIG craft is checked.
When NaOCl was generated and put into sea-water cooling machine in order to overcome the biological hindrances against sea-water cooling machine, it was converted into metallic ion, particularly Ca and Mg, as a hydrate in sea-water and is to stick to electrolyte as a side reaction. This phenomena make the distance between the electrolytes narrow to decrease the flow rate, which induces the local vortex flow which erodes the pole plate. Moreover, this increases the resistance of the electrolyte as well as voltage to decrease the electrolytic efficiency, which has curtailed a chlorine yield and caused a pole plate cut. We are able to overcome these problems by chemical cleaning and intend to extend the life-time of electrolyte and to increase output of the sea-water electrolysis facilities by studying optimal policy regarding chemical cleaning of electrolytic cell. Cleaning time of electrolytic facilities is determined when both increase in electrolytic efficiency and decrease in pole-plate voltage are 10%. At this time as operating current of electrolytic facilities is high, operating time is diminished. Whereas, parameter of end point determination according to cleaning is Mg ionic concentration in solution. When we use Cleaner as a 7wt% HCl, cleaning time is about 80min proper. We are able to maintain pole plate performance by protecting against pole plate cut by means of electrolytic by-product, improve operating rate of facilities, and cut down on maintenance expenditure after acidic cleaning.
The purpose of this paper, was to compare its result with both the settler of inclination plate and the settler of stick fin through the pilot test to know optimized interval of fin. According to intervals of fin, We get most optimized interval of fin in laboratory is inclination plate with $60^{\circ}$ and wide of fin with 50 mm, interval of fin with 150 mm. The result of laboratory showed 67.6~70.6%, 70.4~74.2% for the settler of inclination plate, the settler of inclination plate stick fin. The sedimentation efficiency of the settler of inclination plate stick fin showed 2.8% higher than the sedimentation efficiency of the settler of inclination plate. From now on, Inclination plate settler stick fin requirement in study.
In this study, numerical studies using a Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) method were carried out to estimate the green water load acting on the breakwater plate of bow deck of container carrier, KCS. For the green load water load analysis, a full load condition was considered. The relative motions at bow deck were calculated from the seakeepig analysis. Statistical analysis were carried out to estimate the long term response of the relative motions with the North Atlantic wave scatter diagram. The equivalent design wave was determined from the RAO of the relative motions at bow and the long term responses. CFD geometry modeling with three different locations and simulations for the green water loads were carried out in the equivalent design waves. A commercial CFD program, STAR-CCM+ Ver. 8.04, was used and the green water pressures on the breakwater plate were calculated successfully. The CFD analysis for green water loads can be used as a useful design tool for the evaluation of the breakwater plate of the container vessel.
A potential to effective ozone generation for 4 kinds of gap, a hole-to-plate gap, a hole-to-hole gap, a hole-to-rod gap and a plate-to-plate gap in tap water has been investigated. It is found that the hole gaps indicated higher ozone generation compared to that of the plate-to-plate gap. As a result, the hole gaps could be an effective means to generate ozone in water by utilizing both of one generation mechanisms of the discharge and the electrolysis.
The purpose of this investigation is to study heat transfer characteristics at a stagnation point on a flat plate caused by upward impinging water jet. At the stagnation point, heat transfer results by impinging water jet are being compared with the ones with supplementary water. Optimum supplementary water quantity are supplied in order to improve the effect of heat transfer for each nozzle-to-plate distance. As the nozzle outlet velocity increases, the heat transfer coefficient at stagnation point consequently increases. Changing the nozzle-to-plate distance, growth rate of heat transfer also varies accordingly. This optimum range of Reynolds number is obtained to improve heat transfer effect.
Nowadays Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE) is widely used in different industries such as chemical, food and pharmaceutical process and refrigeration due to the efficient heat transfer performance, extreme compact design and efficient use of the construction material. In present work, PHE is applied in the fresh water generator system. Fresh water generators or desalinators are installed in ship to convert seawater to fresh water using heat from engines. PHE is an important part of a condensing or evaporating system. Among many of factors which should be concentrated on, the heat transfer and pressure drop is most important parts during sizing and rating the performance of PHE. Flow maldistribution is common but it will significantly reduce the heat exchanger performance. In this paper provide a overview of PHE cover basic of theory and conduct a numerical approach for flow distribution in plate channel. An experimental study on the performance of fresh water generator system which developed by plate heat exchanger will presented in future research. Thus, extensive experiment and analysis is required to study the thermal and fluid flow characteristics of PHE.

This paper presents 2D numerical modeling to calculate ship-ice interactions that occur when an icebreaker advances into ice-covered water. The numerical model calculates repeated icebreaking of an ice plate and removal of small ice floes. The icebreaking of the ice plate is calculated using a ship-ice contact detection technique and fluid-structural interaction of ice plate bending behavior. The ship-ice interactions in small ice floes are calculated using a physically based modeling with 3DOF rigid body equations. The ice plate is broken in crushing, bending, and splitting mode. The ice floes drift by wind or current and by the force induced by the ship-ice interaction. The time history of ice force and ice floe distribution when an icebreaker advances into the ice-covered water are obtained numerically. Numerical results demonstrate that the time history of ice force and distribution of ice floes (ice channel width) depend on the ice floe size, ship motion and ice drifting by wind or current. It is shown that the numerical model of ship maneuvering in realistic ice conditions is necessary to obtain precise information about the ship in ice-covered water. The proposed numerical model can be useful to provide data of a ship operating in ice-covered water.
Sedimentation is one of the most common and important units in conventional water treatment plant. Structure such as various baffle walls and inclined plate settler may be obstacles to the horizontal flow when it is poorly designed. Therefore, the effects of these structures on characteristics of hydraulic flow must be evaluated to improve the settling efficiency of the floc. The hydraulic characteristic of the two sedimentations at Y water treatment plant (YWTP), which have different deflector baffles inside the settling basin, were investigated by tracer (fluoride) test. The inclined plate settler installed inside settling basin caused an undesirable impact on horizontal flow and produced dead zone. Solid baffle wall under the plate settler could help to minimize the formation of density currents and flow short circuiting. NaF used as a tracer was recovered more than 90% at investigated all basins. Morill index ($t_{90}/t_{10}$), Modal index ($t_p/T-HRT$) and short-circuiting index ($[M-HRT-t_p]/M-HRT$) were determined from tracer test results performed at YWTP. Those indices ranged 2.95~3.02, 0.40~0.53 and 0.32~0.46, respectively.
