The experiment was carried out to examine the effect of pinching time on growth and marketable yield of okra in rain shielding vinyl houses. Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L., 'Green sod') seedling was transplanted in May, 2013. Pinching times of okra were in each 30th, 45th, 60th day after transplanting of okra. Shoot branch and top fresh weight were significantly different between each pinching times. Top fresh weight were highest at 60th day pinching time after transplanting investigated, and were lowest at 30th day pinching time after transplanting. There was no significant difference in plant height and stem length among pinching times. According to pinching times, marketable yield and number of okra fruits were varied. Marketable yields were highest at 60th day after transplanting, whereas were lowest at 30th day after transplanting. Mineral concentrations of okra fruits were not significantly different among pinching times. Therefore pinching times 60th day after transplanting was effective to increase yield of okra fruit in rain shielding vinyl houses.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of apex removal at different leaf ages on the growth and yield of broccoli in pinching cultivation. Apex was pinched when 2, 3 or 4 true leaves were spread during nursery bed, and non-pinching was conventional method. The plant height was not different among treatments but the fresh weight was decreased as the pinching days were delayed. The numbers of leaves and lateral shoots were increased compared to those of non-pinching by pinching. Days to central budding were shortended by 3 days when pinched at 2 true leaves spreading stage than those of non-pinching. Central (1st) head weight was heaviest when pinched at the time of 2 true leaves spreading (157g). Total head weight was heaviest when pinched at the time of 2 true leaves spreading (378g), and lowest at 4 true leaves spreading stage (196g). Marketable yields were increased by 48% when pinched at the time of 2 true leaves spreading (1,754kg) as compared with those of non-pinching (1,184kg) and lowest when pinched at the time of 4 true leaves spreading (820kg). Also, first harvest was shortended by 6 days by pinching at 2 true leaves spreading stage.

In order to demonstrate the possibility of applying an ionic polymer metal composite (IPMC) to a finger exoskeleton, pinching motion analysis was performed for a thumb-index finger dummy actuated by IPMC actuators. The IPMC actuators of 5mm in width and 40mm in length with 2.4mm thickness generated 1.52N of blocking force for the applying voltage of 4.0V. Three actuators were installed on the three rotary joint of an index finger, and one actuator was installed on one proximal joint. Positions of each joint and finger tip were recorded on the video camera, and motion was analyzed. Power supply to the index finger actuators preceded power supply to the thumb actuator, and key pinching motion was accomplished in 180s. Tip pinching was accomplished in 135s as power supply to the thumb preceded power supply to the index finger.
To produce edible Codonopsis shoots in spring, the effect of shoot pinching times on root yield and quality of Codonopsis was evaluated during 3 years from 1992 to 1994. Shoot growth decreased by increasing picking times and one time pinching of Codonopsis shoot was optimal for seed production. In case of 3 times shoots harvest per year. yield of edible Codonopsis shoots amounted to 29.5MT/ha for 3 years. Increase of shoot picking times exerted harmful effect on root growth and decreased marketable value of harvested shoots. It was recommended from the results. One-time pinching of shoot a year for the production of marketable shoots and roots after 3-year cultivation.
Girdling and girdling+pinching treatments on 'Sekaiichi' apple remarkably reduced June drop and accelerated fruit growth in early stage of fruit development. Girdling+pinching and pinching reduced bourse shoot growth compared with non-treated control. There were no significant differences in flower bud formation in the following year among treatments. It was assumed that the optimum period for girdling is between 5 days before full bloom and full bloom period.
Crop productivity would be determined by relative capacity of source and sink. The study was carried out to measure the effects of shading and flower bud pinching on growth and yield of Atractylodes japonica Koidz. Shading treatment after transplanting was done at 100%, 65, 45 or 25% level of natural light intensity but the pinching treatment was to remove all the inflorescences formed after June 10, July 10, August 10 or none. Growth and yield at early and late stages were periodically measured. At the early stage, shading mainly influenced fresh weight rather than morphological characters. At the late stage, however, severer shading decreased numbers of stems, leaves, roots, fraction and total fresh weight. 65% shading from July 1 to September 30 after skipped the emerging and early growth stages showed nearly same growth and morphological characters but more rhizome yield per unit area than non-shading. In flower bud pinching treatment, earlier pinching increased number of roots, fraction fresh weights per plant and rhizome yield per unit area.

This study was conducted to identify the effect of shading and pinching on growth and acanthoside-D content of Acanthopanax divaricatus var. albeofructus and A. koreanum Nakai. Different pinching heights showed no significant differences in terms of plant growth and acanthoside-D content but higher values showed that pinching A. divaricatus at 60 cm and A. koreanum at 30 cm favored good growth and higher fresh weight in the shoots. The content of acanthoside-D was not significantly affected by pinching heights. Also, no significant difference in acanthoside-D content was found between the lower and upper part of plant in the first year. However it was much higher in the lower part than the upper part in the second year, which indicated that the content of acanthoside-D was comparatively high in the lower part where lignification is much advanced. Shading showed benefits in terms of growth of A. divaricatus while only 50%-shading was favorable for A. koreanum to achieve superior growth. Overall, results indicated that shading had favorably affected the growth of the 2 Acanthopanax species while no-shading is better if we opt to achieve higher acathoside D content.
This study was aimed to obtain the available information for the clothing constru- ction according to the traits of the cerebral palsied. For this purpose, their abilities of eleven methods seven of fastening performance and seven finger functions were tested and their correlationships were clarified. The results are as follows : 1. The length of time needed to perform each fastening method in descending order is as follows : small button > small snap > culumn button > large button > middle button > large snap > separating zipper > velcro. As the spastic has better function than the athetoid in the performance of all fastening methods, there was a significant difference between the types of handicap and between the handi- capped and the normal, except for velcro fastening style in which there was no significant differ- ence between the types of handicap. 2. In finger functions of the cerebral palsied, according to the types of handicap there was no significant difference among grip, palm fixation and hands coordination, howefer there were significant differences among pulp pinching, lateral pinching, finger rolling and lifting control. As to the correlation between the ability of fastening performance and finger function, there was a high significant correlation between the length of time needed to perform each fastenting and finger function of hands co ordination, and that of finger rolling; and there was a significant correlation between the length of time and pulp pinching, and laternal pinching.
When the shear force governs the response of an RC element, as in the case of a low-rise shear wall, the effect of shear on the element's response is thought to be responsible for the 'pinching effect' in the hysteretic loops. However, it was recently shown that this undesirable pinching effect can be eliminated in the hysteretic load-deformation curves of a shear-dominant element if the steel grid orientation is properly aligned in the direction of the applied principal stresses. In this paper, the presence and absence of the pinching mechanism in the hysteretic loops of the shear stress-strain curves of RC elements was explained rationally using a compatibility aided truss model. The analytical results indicate that the pinching effect of the RC elements is strongly related to the direction of the steel arrangement. The area of the energy dissertation does not increase proportionally to the difference between the direction of the principal compressive stress and the direction of the steel arrangement.

This study was carried out to find the effect of the pinching and planting density on yield of petal and grain in safflower (Caythamus tinctorius L.). The planting density was high effective branch number per $m^2$ compared with pinching, and effective flower bud was most in $270ea/m^2$ in three line planting density, but in case of pinching was few at $186{\sim}223ea/m^2$ Grain yield was increased with 231 kg/10a at double line planting density compared with in 220 kg/10a of control. Petal yield of double line and three line planting density was 25.4 kg/10a and 26.9 kg/10a, it was increased 15, 22% compared with 22.0 kg/10a of control, respectively.
