  • In order to estimate the wettability of the borosilicate glasses with different composition on the noble metals of gold and silver, the measurements of the contact angle between the solid and the liquid were made at various temperatures and holding times using the sessil-drop method. The wetting behavior and the adhesion of the phases were strongly influenced by the thermal or the physical characteristics of the materials. The dependence of wetting angle ($\theta$) on the holding time (t) could be represented by the relation of $\theta$=a.tb, whereby the wettability of the systems was quantitatively compared. Also with increasing content of borosilicate glass in the glass-gold matrix composite, the tensile strength was decreased whereas the elastic modulus was increased.

  • Epilepsy has now become the most serious brain disorder. A number of synthetic antiepileptic drugs are available in practice, however their effectiveness does not grip true with the entire population suffering from epilepsy. Traditional systems of medicine are popular in developing countries and most of the population relies on traditional medicines for their primary health care need. Medicinal plants to be an important source of traditional medicines. Various plants are used for the treatment of epilepsy in traditional system of medicines and various plants are yet to be scientifically investigated. Phyto-constituents have been the basis of treatment of human diseases including epilepsy. Herbal products are extensively used for the treatment of many diseases worldwide and where allopathic fails or has severe side effects. Psycho neural drugs are also have very serious side effects like physical dependence, tolerance, deterioration of cognitive function and effect on respiratory, digestive and immune system. So the treatments through herbal medicines are widely used across the world due to their wide applicability and therapeutic efficacy with least side effects, which in turn has accelerated the research regarding natural therapy. In this review we have summarized some herbal anti-epileptics.

  • Bereavement is the state of loss resulting from death. Grief is the emotional response associated with loss, intense and acute sorrow resulting from loss. Complicated grief represent a pathological outcome involving social, physical, emotional, cognitive, spiritual morbidity. The common psychiatric disorders associated complicated grief or abnormal grief responses include clinical depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol abuse or other substance abuse, and dependence, psychotic disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Grief tasks involve a series of stage or phases following an important loss that gradually permit adjustment and recovery. Three phases of grief involve phase 1 (walking the edges), phase 2 (entering the depths), and phase 3 (reconnecting the world). For intervention to be effective they need to be individually tailored to abnormal grief reaction or unresolved grief reaction. Clear understandings of complicated grief, abnormal responses, factors increasing risk after bereavement will often enable us to prevent psychiatric disorders in bereaved patients.

  • This paper describes an improved analytic model for a gallium-arsenide MESFET computer simmulation and deals with application to microwave performance. The current-voltage characteristics, the dependence of the capacitances, transconductances and drainconductances on bias conditions and the dependences of s-parameters on various frequencies are calculated. The model is base on a physical picture revealed through two-dimensional numerical analysis, and takes into account transition region and diffusion process under gate but it require a very small computer time. Simulation results agree well with the experimental data found earlier by other author The proposed model can be used for a computer-aided design of GaAs MESFET devices and for a study of application to microwave performance.

  • Lower thermospheric winds are forced primarily by non-uniform solar heating, atmospheric tides and other waves coming from below, and energy and momentum forcing associated with high-latitude magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, particularly ion drag and Joule heating. To understand the physical processes that control the thermospheric dynamics, we quantify the momentum forces that are mainly responsible for maintaining the high-latitude lower thermospheric wind system and examine the resulting momentum balance with the aid of the Thermosphere-Ionosphere Electrodynamics General Circulation Model (NCAR-TIEGCM) developed by the National Center for Atmospheric Research. • The relationship between riding comfort and the properties of flexible polyurethane foam used in car seats was quantitatively illustrated through vibration experiments with humans sitting in car seats, which were vertically shaken by vibrator. Riding comfort was estimated according to SD (Semantic Differential)-method using questionnaire, and was analyzed with a factor analysis which demonstrated the principal factors of riding comfort. At the same time, riding comfort was related to the properties of the flexible polyurethane foam with coefficients of correlation. It was also related to the behaviour of its vibration of humans sitting in the seats. As a result, it was demonstrated that the relationship between riding comfort and the flexible polyurethane foam properties varies according to the frequency of the vibration shaking the human sitting in the seat. and it was demonstrated that the frequency dependence of the relationship is strongly affected by the physical changes of the vibration modes of the human-seat vibration system.

  • A growing number of people are concerned about their sleep. There are many people with chronic sleep disorders. As there are various causes in a disease, proper treatment according to each cause is necessary for a more effective treatment. In general, insomnia is classified into five categories of physical, physiological, psychological, psychiatric and pharmacological aspects. Sedative-hypnotics including benzodiazepine and non-benzodiazepine have widely been used in chronic insomniacs. However, most hypnotics including non-benzodiazepine cause some of dependence, tolerance, impaired daytime function and rebound insomnia. Therefore, we are looking forward to proposing an effective oriental treatment for insomnia. A 71-year-old male who had suffered from cerebral infarction was admitted to our department for oriental treatment of stroke and insomnia. Initial treatment modalities with administration of paroxetine were not effective. However administration of oriental medicine' Gochimmuwoo-san(Gaozhenwuyou-san)' achieved a desirable effect.

  • The two-dimensional deformation of a homogeneous, isotropic thermoelastic half-space with voids with variable modulus of elasticity and thermal conductivity subjected to thermomechanical boundary conditions has been investigated. The formulation is applied to the coupled theory(CT) as well as generalized theories: Lord and Shulman theory with one relaxation time(LS), Green and Lindsay theory with two relaxation times(GL) Chandrasekharaiah and Tzou theory with dual phase lag(C-T) of thermoelasticity. The Laplace and Fourier transforms techniques are used to solve the problem. As an application, concentrated/uniformly distributed mechanical or thermal sources have been considered to illustrate the utility of the approach. The integral transforms have been inverted by using a numerical inversion technique to obtain the components of displacement, stress, changes in volume fraction field and temperature distribution in the physical domain. The effect of dependence of modulus of elasticity on the components of stress, changes in volume fraction field and temperature distribution are illustrated graphically for a specific model. Different special cases are also deduced.

  • This paper presents an analytical solution for steady state flow into a close-ended cylindrical permeameter. The soil medium is considered to be uniform, isotropic, and of infinite thickness. Laplace equation is solved by considering rotational symmetry and by using curvilinear coordinates obtained from conformal mapping. The deduced shape factors, which are compared to approximate relationships obtained from both numerical and physical modelling, and idealizations involving ellipsoidal cavities, are proposed for use in field measurements. It is shown that some of the shape factors obtained are significantly different from published values and show a much higher dependence of the rate of flow on the aspect ratio, than deduced from approximate solutions.
