  • Research and case study on implementing Knowledge Management (KM) in various fields have been published. However, KM could be misunderstood as developed Information Technology (IT) rather than a managerial tool to support knowledge creation in an organization unless the theoretical background on the evolution of KM is rigorously considered. This paper aims to review philosophy of science and managerial trends that can explain the reasons for introducing KM into the industry. Based on this theoretical background, Soft Systems Method (SSM), one of method to facilitate knowledge flows, are explained. SSM has been developed to cope with the characteristics of knowledge distinguished from data and information. Further research topics relevant to SSM in construction management as a practical application and educational tool are presented.

  • We still do not know against what histocial/philosophical background and motivation was Tarski's definition of logical consequence introduced, even if it has had such a strong influence. In view of the centrality of the notion of logical consequence in logic and philosophy of logic, it is rather shocking. There must be various intertwined reasons to blame for this uncomfortable situation. There has been remarkable progress achieved recently on the history of analytic philosophy and modern logic. In view of the recent developments of the controversies involved, however, we will have to wait years to resolve all this uneasiness. In this gloomy situation, Douglas Patterson's recent study of Tarski's philosophy of language and logic seems to have the potential to turn out to be a ground breaking achievement. [Patterson (2012)] This article aims at reporting the state-of-the-art in this problem area, and fathoming the future directions of research by examining critically some unclear components of Patterson's study.

  • Augustus De Morgan became to be deeply interested in the education of pure mathematics since he came to teach in UCL because of the specific nature of natural philosophy lectures, the academical knowledge and reasoning powers of the students, and the negative attitudes of London society on mathematics. During his long tenure, he really tried his best to make his students understand the important concepts and the principles of pure mathematics, and logically explain the processes of inducing and proving the laws of pure mathematics. When he could not stay as a mere researcher, he had to concern himself with and pay attention to the problems of educating students. And then his teaching style was constructed in a specific way by the various attitudes about mathematics, the boundary relationship between the adjacent academical branches, and the social and systematic nature of UCL.

  • This essay seeks new possibilities in experimental thinking and to find ways in which philosophy can aid humanistic imagination. In emphasizing logical precision, philosophy has so far ignored the role of imagination in philosophical logic and limited itself to deductive logic. Despite the obvious fact that no degree of logical precision can fully account for, nor provide complete expression for, the vast range of human thought, other modes of thinking have suffered in the shadow of deductive logic. But these non-deductive models of thinking can in many cases better explain the emotive, aesthetic logic of the humanities. The kinds of models (deductive and non-deductive) in humanistic thinking include dialectic, abductive, analogic, pragmatic, inductive, and deductive logic. Each mode of logical thinking may be assigned a color that represents its emotive characteristics: red for dialectics (opposition): blue for abduction (transcendence); yellow for analogy (flexibility); green for pragmatics (peace); violet/purple for induction (fantasy); and finally orange for deduction (trust). And each mode can also be keyed to major areas in humanistic thought, making up the following connections: dialectic-red-history; abduction-blue-literature; analogy-yellow-philosophy ; pragmatics-green-religion ; induction-violet/purple-arts; and deduction-orange-science. These connections serve to illustrate the interrelationship between emotion and intelligence, leading us toward considerations of emotional intelligence and intelligent emotion. The former is increasingly gaining attention, as the effect of 'mood space' on intelligence is being scrutinized. That the rate of suicide among mathematicians is very high points to the need for careful study of the reverse relationship between emotion and intelligence, intelligent emotion. The need for the latter is all the more pressing, as the emergence of new technology is allowing, even forcing, us more and more to experience the world intellectually (i.e., sans emotive experience) through a new virtual space called cyberspace.

  • TOC(Theory of Constraints) - the emphasis of this philosophy was on identifying and eliminating constraints(bottle-necks) in the system. TOC solves this and optimizes whole system by improving manufacturing constraints that limit system result. In this paper, it is shown that the concept of the "delayed differentiation" can be applied for enhancing the efficiency of the time buffer and thus reducing the of the time buffer.

  • Six Sigma is a proven management philosophy that can be employed to improve productivity dramatically in various fields of industries. However some companies where Six Sigma is adopted confront stagnancy due to many kinds of causes of impediment. In this paper, the causes of stagnancy in the diverse stages of Six Sigma implementation are studied. Moreover in this paper results of such causes are also discussed.

  • Nowadays, the wide spectrum of changes have been occurred in library world. It is essential for librarians to improve their professionalization standards to convert these changes into the o n.0, pportunity of growth. The device of improvement of professionalization standards is following: 1. Librarians have to receive formal and informal education and learn to advance in knowledge and skill concerning library affairs continually. 2. Self learning has to be transform into learning organization. 3. Education of Librarianship concentrate mainly in practical and technical study by this time but it is indispensable to develop the theory and philosophy of librarianship.

  • QS-9000 was established by Chrysler, Ford, General Motors and some Truck Manufactures to solve problems of efforts to prepare original standards for each company. When we compare the requirements in QS-9000 with those in ISO 9000, we may observe that those of QS-9000 are more specific, since the user of the standard is limited to the automobile industry. In particular, the requirements on statistical techniques are described in more detail. In this paper, we present the requirements on statistical techniques in QS-9000. Specifically, we review the contents of QS-9000 and explore the philosophy and the minimum requirement on statistical techniques behind the description.

  • This paper focuses on what the philosophy and methodology of the Theory of Constraints contribute to B2B e-commerce. Typical characteristics of TOC methods applicable to B2B are explored in comparison with traditional MRP, JIT, TQM and cost accounting. Addressed are expected changes in various backend business areas supporting e-commerce. TOC provides B2B management with the capability of logistics transparency, speedy decision making, and better cashflow.
