  • The effects of rate of phase separation to ester interchange reactions and the repulsive pair interaction energy on the phase behavior in a phase-separated immiscible polyester blend are investigated using a Monte Carlo simulation method. The time evolution of structure factor and the degree of randomness are monitored as a function of homogenization time. When the phase separation is dominant over ester interchange reactions, the domain size slowly increases with homogenization time. However, when the pair interaction becomes less repulsive, the domain size does not significantly change with homogenization time. On the other hand, when ester interchange reactions are dominant over the phase separation, the homogenization proceeds without a change in the domain size. The higher the extent of phase separation, the lower the increasing rate of the DR. However, when the phase separation is sufficiently dominant, the effect of the extent of phase separation on the increasing rate of the degree of randomness become less significant.

  • This paper proposes balanced model reduction of non-minimum phase plant. The algorithm presented in this paper is to convert high-order non-minimum phase plant into low-oder minimum phase plant using balanced model reduction. Balanced model reduction requires the error bound that Hankel singular value produces. This algorithm shows the tolerance that admits the method of this paper.

  • This paper proposes a design method of fuzzy phase-lead compensator and its self-learning by neural network. The main feature of the fuzzy phase-lead compensator is to have parameters for effectively compensating phase characteristics of control systems. An important theorem which is related to phase-lead compensation is derived by introducing concept of frequency characteristics. We propose a design procedure of fuzzy phase-lead compensators for linear controlled objects. Furthermore, we realize a neuro-fuzzy compensator for unknown or nonlinear controlled objects by using Widrow-Hoff learning rule.

  • This paper presents the automatic vision algorithm to generate and calibrate reference phase plane to improve the accuracy of 3D measuring machine of using phase shifting projection moire method, which is not traditional N-bucket method, but is based on direct image processing method to the pattern projection image. Generally, to acquire accurate reference phase plane, the calibration specimen with well treated surface is needed, and detailed calibration method should be performed. For the cost reduction of specimen manufacturing and the calibration time reduction, on the specimen, not specially designed, with general accuracy level, an efficient calibration procedure for the reference phase generation is proposed. The proposed vision algorithm is developed to extract the line center points of the projected line pattern from acquired images, derive the line feature information consisting of its slope and intercept by using sampled feature points, and finally generate the related reference phase between line pairs. Experimental results show that the proposed method make reference phase plane with a good accuracy under noisy environment and the proposed algorithm can reduce the total cost to make high accurate calibration specimen, also increase the accuracy of reference phase plane, and reduce the complex calibration procedure to move grid via N-bucket algorithm precisely.

  • Background: Four-dimensional computed tomographic (4DCT) images are increasingly used in clinic with the growing need to account for the respiratory motion of the patient during radiation treatment. One of the reason s that makes the dose evaluation using 4DCT inaccurate is a change of the patient respiration during the treatment session, i.e., intrafractional uncertainty. Especially, when the amplitude of the patient respiration is greater than the respiration range during the 4DCT acquisition, such an organ motion from the larger respiration is difficult to be represented with the 4DCT. In this paper, the method to generate images expecting the organ motion from a respiration with extended amplitude was proposed and examined. Materials and Methods: We propose a method to generate extra-phase images from a given set of the 4DCT images using deformable image registration (DIR) and linear extrapolation. Deformation vector fields (DVF) are calculated from the given set of images, then extrapolated according to respiratory surrogate. The extra-phase images are generated by applying the extrapolated DVFs to the existing 4DCT images. The proposed method was tested with the 4DCT of a physical 4D phantom. Results and Discussion: The tumor position in the generated extra-phase image was in a good agreement with that in the gold-standard image which is separately acquired, using the same 4DCT machine, with a larger range of respiration. It was also found that we can generate the best quality extra-phase image by using the maximum inhalation phase (T0) and maximum exhalation phase (T50) images for extrapolation. Conclusion: In the present study, a method to construct extra-phase images that represent expanded respiratory motion of the patient has been proposed and tested. The movement of organs from a larger respiration amplitude can be predicted by the proposed method. We believe the method may be utilized for realistic simulation of radiation therapy.

  • In this paper, we studied the effect of asymmetrical 3rd order IMD of power amplifier due to changes in modulation frequency on IMD cancellation performance. The phase extraction method for determining asymmetric rate for phase distortion of IMD is proposed and the phase difference between lower and upper 3rd order IMD is measured by this method. The phase compensation circuit to decrease the phase difference is also designed and fabricated. From the measurement results using the phase compensation circuit applied to 5 W RF power amplifier fur PCS applications, the 3rd order IMD cancellation performance can be achieved up to 2-tone spacing 1.5 MHz (phase difference within 10$^{\circ}$).

  • The Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) is widely used in grid-tie inverter applications to achieve the synchronization between the inverter and the grid. However, its performance is deteriorated when the grid voltage is not pure sinusoidal due to the harmonics and the frequency deviation. Therefore it is important to design a high performance phase-locked loop (PLL) for the single phase inverter applications to guarantee the quality of the inverter output. In this paper a simple method to improve the performance of the PLL for the single phase inverter is proposed. The proposed PLL is able to accurately estimate the fundamental frequency component of the grid voltage even in the presence of harmonic components. In additional its transient response is fast enough to track a change in grid voltage within two cycles of the fundamental frequency. The effectiveness of the proposed PLL is confirmed through the PSIM simulation and experiments.

  • In this paper, we develop design procedures for carrier tracking loop for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems or other systems of blocked data. In such communication systems, phase error measurements are made infrequent enough to invalidate the traditional loop design methodology which is based on analog loop design. We analyze the degradation in the OFDM schemes caused by the tracking loop and show how the performance is dependent on the rms phase error, where we distinguished between the effect of the variance in the average phase over the symbol and the effect of the phase change over the symbol. We derive the optimal tracking loop including optional delay in the loop caused by processing time. Our solution is general and includes arbitrary phase noise apd additive noise spectrums. In order to guarantee a well behaved solution, we have to check the design against margin constraints subject to uncertainties. In case the optimal loop does not meet the required margin constraints subjected to uncertainties, it is shown how to apply a method taken from control theory to find a controller. Alternatively, if we restrict the solution to first or second order loops, we give a simple loop design procedure which may be sufficient in many cases. Extensions of the method are shown for using both pilot symbols and data symbols in the OFDM receiver for phase tracking. We compare our results to other methods commonly used in OFDM receivers and we show that a large improvement can be gained.

  • Laser interferometry is widely used as a measuring system in many fields because of its high resolution and ability to measure a broad area in real-time all at once. In conventional LASER interferometry, for example Out-of-plane ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry), In plane ESPI, Shearography and Holography, it uses PZT or other components as a phase shift instrumentation to extract 3D deformation data, vibration mode and others. However, in most cases PZT has some disadvantages, which include nonlinear errors and limited time of use. In the present study, a new type of LASER interferometry using a laser diode is proposed. Using LASER Diode Sinusoidal Phase Modulating (LD-SPM) interferometry, the phase modulation can be directly modulated by controlling the LASER Diode injection current thereby eliminating the need for PZT and its components. This makes the interferometry more compact. This paper reports on a new approach to the LD Modulating interferometry that involves four-buckets phase shift method. This study proposes a four-bucket phase mapping algorithm, which was developed to have a guaranteed application, to stabilize the system in the field and to be a user-friendly GUI. In this paper, the theory for LD wavelength modulation and sinusoidal phase modulation of LD modulating interferometry is shown. Four-bucket phase mapping algorithm is then introduced.

  • Nanoindentater tests were conducted to conducted nanoindentation microhardness of the individual phase of ferrite and martensite of 680MPa dual-phase (DP) steel charged with hydrogen. Hydrogen was charged by electrochemical method with current densities of 150, $200mA/cm^2$ for charging times of 5, 10, 25, 50 hours, respectively. Nanoindenter test results showed that the nanoindentation microhardnesses of ferrite phase of DP steel were varied from min. 1.58 GPa to max. 2.82 GPa, and the nanoindentation microhardnesses of martensite phase varied from min. 3.19 GPa to max. 5.16 GPa with the variation of hydrogen charging conditions. It was observed that the variations of the nanoindention microhardnesses of martenstie phase were higher than those of ferrite phases. It was thought that martensite phase in the 680MPa DP steel was more sensitive than ferrite phase to hydrogen embrittlement.
