This study was performed in order to to suggest the library service direction and program provision method for single-person households in the Seoul Public Library. by analyzing the current status of the operation of public services and library services for domestic and foreign single-person households and the results of the survey on perception of library users and experts. As a result, the suggested library service direction for single-person households was proposed to secure and provide information resources closely related to the lives of single-person households, and establish a support center in charge of services to utilize human resources efficiently with local libraries, and create a user-centered facility infrastructure including single-person households away from the material-oriented library, provide regional specifications and customised services based on the characteristics and distribution of single-person households. In addition, the reading culture program for single-person households believes that social activities support for vulnerable single-person households, social ties, care, volunteer work, leisure and cultural activities are more necessary than anything else, and proposed specialized library services and programs for young, middle-aged, and female single-person households.
Purpose : This study aimed to identify the factors influencing physical restraint-related practice among nurses working in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods : The participants consisted of 169 ICU nurses in three general hospitals in B and U cities. Data were collected from December 2021 to January 2022 through a structured self-administered questionnaire. Demographic characteristics, physical restraint-related practice, Person-centered Critical Care Nursing (PCCN), work environment, and attitudes toward physical restraint use were measured. For data analyses, hierarchical multiple regressions were conducted using SPSS/WIN 25.0. Results : Clinical careers in the ICU, better work environments, higher PCCN levels, and more positive attitudes toward physical restraint use were associated with a better practice of physical restraints, which together explained 35.5% of the total variance of the outcome. Conclusion : Our findings suggest that to promote a safe physical restraint-related practice among ICU nurses, it is important to improve the nursing environment, prepare guidelines for applying PCCN, and provide education for endorsing positive attitudes toward the use of physical restraints.

Purpose: This study aims to analyze design guidelines for hospice facilities in the US, UK, and Canada focused on design considerations and space requirements, and utilizes them as baseline data for establishing standards for Korean hospice facilities. Methods: Comparative review was carried out to investigate hospice care models, design consideration, and room sizes and requirements for design guideline of hospice facilities in United States, UK and Canada identified on electronic database and review articles, and to examine major characteristics and tendencies of hospice facilities. Results: The hospice care models characteristics in design guidelines is generally largely divided into hospital-based hospice facility, Nursing home-based hospice facility, and daycare hospice. The design considerations in hospice facilities focused on medical efficiency, flexibility, barrier-free environment, person-centered care, and stability. There is also a need for single resident room, rooms for the patient's family, and isolation room for infection control. Implications: it is recommended to establish standards for the installation and operation of required and recommended rooms and considerations when establishing the standards of hospice facilities in Korea. This Study is limited to a simple comparative analysis of the framework of guideline.
Purpose: This study examined: 1) what it meant for patients to have multimorbidity 2) how they manage their illness using health care facilities, and 3) what contextual backgrounds exist regarding the health care system. Methods: This qualitative research obtained individual in-depth interviews from 22 patients. Participants were selected by purposive sampling among those who saw physicians more often than the national average from the 2013 medical-claim data. The transcribed data were analyzed using Ground theory. Results: Multimorbidity patients suffered from "chain-like serial symptoms" and "pain without a breakthrough". They expressed themselves as "indeed patients among patients", "my body is a general hospital", and "an incompletely normal person". There was a demand to resolve the anxiety arising from the situation in which the body keeps getting sicker without showing any signs of recovery. In a state of reduced social support and a lack of trust in the doctor, their desire to be healed led them to receive a temporary relief through dependence on medical institutions. Conclusion: This research recognized the desire of multimorbidity patients to seek temporary relief through dependence on medical institutions. A more patient-centered directed care plan, specific to the needs of the patients with multimorbidity is required.
Objectives: Despite the recent emphasis on a patient-centered chronic care model, few studies have investigated its use in older adults in South Korea. We explored how older Korean adults perceive and cope with their chronic illness. Methods: We conducted focus group interviews in Seoul, Korea in January 2010. Focus groups were formed by disease type (hypertension and type 2 diabetes) and gender using purposive sampling. Inclusion criteria were patients aged 60 and over who had been diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension and received care at a community health center for at least six months prior to participation. Interview data were analyzed through descriptive content analysis. Results: Among personal factors, most participants felt overwhelmed when they received their diagnosis. However, with time and control of their acute symptoms using medication, their worry diminished and participants tended to denying being identified as a patient or sick person. Among socio-familial factors, participants reported experiencing stigma with their chronic illness and feeling it was a symbol of weakness. Instead of modifying their lifestyles, which might interfere with their social relationships, they resorted to only following their medicine regime prescribed by their doctor. Participants also reported feeling that their doctor only prescribed medications and acted in an authoritative and threatening manner to induce and reinforce participants' compliance with treatment. Conclusions: For successful patient-centered management of chronic illnesses, supportive environments that include family, friends, and healthcare providers should be established.
In order to help the theory development for "women health", and to apply to the women client care, the concept analysis of "women health" was done. According to the concept analysis method by Walker & Avant, the characters of concept "women health" were analyzed from literature. The results were as followings : first, it emphasizes reproductive focused health care(childbirth-oriented) and normal development process regarded as abnormal. Second, it is affected by cultual environment. Third, it is related with sex. Forth, it considers the human, feminine and maternal aspects. Fifth, it need woman-centered nursing approach to promote woman's quality of life. Sixth, it stresses not only wholistic human health promotion but also the harmony between human and environment. Seventh, it is needed to be considered woman's various experiences as important and it approaches phenomenogically and interdisciplinary. Eighth, it needed to understands person-situation interactional aspect. Ninth, it can promote the adaptation power to surrounding environment. Above results can elucidate the concept of "women health", and will be a basis of theory development of "women health" In practical nursing, these results will be a basis for the promotion of women health and for the increase of life quality.
Purpose: To support implementation of comprehensive, person-centered healthcare, this study aimed to explore immigrant women's public health center (PHC) service experiences and needs while considering Photovoice's feasibility for this purpose. Methods: This qualitative study included 15 marriage-based immigrant women. Participants were recruited from churches and multicultural family support centers using purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through four focus group interviews and were subjected to inductive content analysis. Results: Five categories of experiences were identified: language barriers, hectic environment, affordable and practical primary healthcare, feeling ignored and discriminated against, and feeling frustrated. In addition, five categories of needs were identified: language assistance services, ease of access, healthcare across the lifespan, expansion of affordable healthcare, and being accepted as they are. This study provides preliminary evidence that the Photovoice approach can facilitate the interview process in a qualitative inquiry involving participants with limited ability to express their perspectives in the researchers' language. Conclusion: Study findings highlight the need to implement institutional policy and procedural changes within PHCs and to provide culturally competent, personcentered care for South Korea's marriage-based immigrant women and other ethnic minority populations. The findings also provide evidence-based direction for PHC service planning.
This study was aimed to clarify the concept of professionalism of the nurse. Walker and Avant's concept analysis process was used. The main attributes of professionalism of the nurse were advanced nursing knowledge, excellent nursing skill, person-centered nursing care, ethicality, responsibility, peer cooperation, autonomy, and outstanding situational judgement, and problem solving. The antecedents were a long enough period of nursing education and experience, research activities, personal qualities, and self-directed training. The consequences were improvement of professional identity and low turnover rates of nurses; improvement of nursing satisfaction, health recovery and well-being for patients; improvement of nursing quality, revenue, and reputation for hospital; gaining social recognition and development of nursing profession; obtaining financial benefits in national health care for nation. The findings of the study provide clarification of the concept of professionalism of the nurse and lay the foundation to establish professionalism among nurses to deliver good nursing care.
A considerable change of the Korean nursing system has been made during the last decade not only in its philosophy but also in its function and structure to meet political and scientific need of the modern society. The main purpose of this study is to develope the new concept of comprehensive nursing care, both its Philosophy and ethics, as the basic of modern clinical nursing theory and practice. Comprehensive nursing care is the concept of human centered nursing care, and it helps a man to meet the basic physical, psychological, environmental, socioeconomic and teaching needs. It also helps him to help himself to meet these needs. This concept starts from the individualized nursing care and its ultimate goal is to improve a man to have a better position in his own community so that he may able to have a meaningful life. To accomplish this goal, an individualized nursing care plan as a nursing diagnosis and problem solving method should be set up for different patients with similar diagnosis to meet their needs, because each patient has a different social background. from this viewpoint, nursing is a science as well as abstruse humanity. The performance of comprehensive nursing care is a goal and issue of modern clinical nursing care. If nursing is a science and a profession for man, it should have ethics which recognize the dignity of man and offers infinite service voluntarily, and should be able to show leadership in carrying out the nursing responsibility. This leadership finds a person's potential and encourages him to utilize it. Such concepts should develop into a nursing ideology and this ideology should become a priority in comprehensive nursing care. The following statements are the conclusion of this study. 1) Modern nursing has been developed from disease centered nursing care to comprehensive nursing care based on humanity. The primary principle of nursing was to assist in the treatment of disease, but it has been changed to the professional nursing system independently. 2) The concept of nursing is one of continuous or endless scope of dispersion. It proves that nursing is grasping the professional responsibility to be able to coordinate scientific principles Patient health problems are according to scientific principles rather than adhering to nursing technical discipline as a daily work. 3) In chapter I and Ⅱ, the philosophy and ideology of nursing have been discussed and the flow of concept of clinical nursing and the rate of progress which emerges from naturalizing performance of the concept of comprehensive nursing in clinical nursing studied. The discussion developed the theory that a nurse should be to embody nursing ideas and objectives by establishing definite conviction of professions and study. 4) In chapter lil, nursing planning based on nursing diagnosis as a method to attain ideal nursing care for humanity with a definite idea of establishing philosophy of nursing was presented. 5) From the result of survey on patient needs about treatment and nursing, it was observed that all patient had emotional stress from unknown factors. Therefore it was concluded that nurses should not only educate the patient but also give them the opportunity to communicate freely their needs and anxieties. Furthermore complaints and doubts of the patient should be carefully noted and must be considered to meet these needs. 6) Patient teaching is the most important part of comprehensive nursing care. In chapter, Ⅲ, the important of patient teaching was emphasized by demonstrating the effect of patient teaching for diabetic patient. 7) In Chapter Ⅳ, from the result of the study on nurses attitudes to comprehensive nursing care, it was pointed that the evolution of nursing education and the establishment of a complete concept and value of comprehensive nursing was necessary.
Objectives: This study aimed to review the characteristics of personalized medicine and Korean medicine, and the correlation between personalized medicine and Korean medicine. Methods: We investigated various studies in PubMed, Scopus and domestic Korean medicine journals. In addition, we discussed the topic based on literature. Results: Western medicine developed as evidence-based medicine. However, its limitations are being reached, so a new paradigm of medicine is needed. As a result, personalized medicine has appeared. Recently, through the development of human genomics, personalized medicine has been researched on the basis of individual genetic characteristics. Korean medicine has developed with a unique holistic approach and treats not the disease itself but the patient's body. Its characteristic is well expressed through syndrome differentiation and treatment. Syndrome differentiation represents the nature of person-centered medicine and becomes the root of personalized medicine. Conclusions: Compared with genome-based personalized medicine of Western medicine, Korean medicine could be classified as syndrome-based personalized medicine. It would be great to apply this characteristic to clinical practices.
