Development of Expertise-based Safety Performance Evaluation Model

  • Construction projects have become increasingly complex in recent years, resulting in substantial safety hazards and frequent fall accidents. In an attempt to prevent fall accidents, various safety management systems have been developed. These systems have mainly been evaluated qualitatively and subjectively by practitioners or supervisors, and there are few tools that can be used to quantitatively evaluate the performance of safety management systems. We propose an expertise-based safety performance evaluation model (EXSPEM), which integrates a fuzzy approach-based analytic hierarchy process and a regression approach. The proposed model uses S-shaped curves to represent the degree of contribution by subjective expertise and is verified by a genetic algorithm. To illustrate its practical application, EXSPEM was applied to evaluate the safety performance of a newly developed real-time mobile detector monitoring system. It is expected that this model will be a helpful tool for systematically evaluating the application of a robust safety control and management system in a complex construction environment.

  • This study examines the impact of knowledge processes (KP) on the performance of knowledge management systems (KMS). It posits that task needs and available functionality of technology existing in an organization could influence the usability of KP and the KMS performance. A firm-level structural model was developed based on data collected from corporate KM users. Survey-based research was carried out to test this model. Following questionnaire development, validation, and pretest with a pilot study, data were collected from 886 knowledge management (KM) users including directors, managers, and workers in a South Korea-based company, Korea Asset Management Corporation (KAMCO), to measure the task needs and available functionality of technology to improve the KMS performance. Results show that the matching between the two factors-technology and task-had a significant influence on the usability of KP and the KMS performance, and a better usability of KP has positive impact on the KMS performance. Implications on KM practices and KMS designs are also discussed.

  • Egyptian construction firms (ECF) started recently to adopt quality management system (QMS) as a way to develop and improve their performance as previous studies have shown. However, considering all the firm's aspects in a competitive way is a crucial process for the ECF's culture. This research is trying to indicate the role of the QMS implementation in measuring performance (MP) through developing a model for measuring performance at the organizational level, and to explore its impact on the organizations that adopt QMS. This model is based on specific elements and their related indicators which have been derived from national approaches and models of MP. This model determines the performance level (PL) of the organization that is measured by means of a point system. Weights of the elements in the point system considered both the elements' importance in the international models and its real practice in the ECFs. This model has been validated using another questionnaire and the majority of surveyed experts agreed that the proposed model can be applied effectively.

  • This study analyzes the importance-performance analysis (IPA) of the 10 dimensions of the smart construction safety management system, and analyzes which dimensions are important and which dimensions are performing to determine key improvement tasks, incremental improvement tasks, Maintenance and reinforcement tasks and continuous maintenance tasks were derived. Among the 10 dimensions of the smart construction safety management system, the dimensions that are recognized as important by all field managers and field workers and have high performance are the automatic risk displacement measurement system, smart environmental sensor system, and heavy equipment seizure prevention system. However, areas that were perceived as having high importance but low performance were worker location tracking systems, smart safety helmet chin muscles, and smart safety ring fastening. Among the smart construction safety management systems perceived by field managers, areas for key improvement with high importance and low performance included worker location tracking system and smart safety ring fastening. Among the smart construction safety management systems perceived by field workers, the area for key improvement with high importance and low performance was the automatic risk displacement measurement system.

  • HRD 프로페셔널은 계획, 조직 개발, 조직 디자인 등과 같은 전략적인 경영 협력 활동을 통해 생산성의 향상을 도모한다. 특정한 개입 방안만을 제시하는 것은 조직의 기본적인 시스템을 변화시키거나 향상시킬 수 없으므로 시스템적 관점을 지향하는 것은 전략 개발에 중요하다. 조직을 시스템적으로 운영하기 위해 HRD 프로페셔널은 문제해결에 있어서의 조직 내 저항을 잘 다룰 뿐만 아니라 변화관련당사자와의 협업을 통해 제시된 문제해결의 효과를 양적으로 측정할 수 있는 방법을 밝힐 수 있어야한다. 또한 HRD 프로페셔널은 경영 목표들간의 일치 혹은 통일성, 프로세스 디자인, 프로세스 운영에서 핵심적인 역할을 할 필요가 있다. 성과에 대한 정책과 실행을 지역의 문화적 특성을 고려하여 기획하는 것 역시 중요한 과제 중의 하나이다.

첨단 생산기술 도입에 따른 관리회계정보시스템의 변화 : 국가 문화적 차이의 영향 (The Effects of Cultural Differences on the Design of Management Accounting Information Systems)

  • This study empirically examined the impact of national culture on the amount of information provided by management accounting information systems (MAIS). Two very different cultures, the Korean and Australian cultures, were considered in our study The results showed that the much more flexibility performance information is provided in Korean firms, while the amount of quality performance information and traditional cost control information (TCCI) produced in Australian firms is much more than in Korean firms. However, it was found that in the amount of financial performance information and advanced cost control information (ACCI), there exist no significant differences between Korean firms and Australian firms. We also investigated the effect of the three-way interactions among national culture, level of advanced manufacturing technology (AMT), and information on production performance. The results of this study revealed a significant impact of three-way interactions on the improvement of production performance. In conclusion, we suggest that under high levels of AMT, Korean firms need a large amount of information-based MAIS, while Australian firms require the ACCI and nonfinancial performance information-oriented MAIS.

  • IT관리의 효율성과 효과성을 높이기 위한 방안으로 IT서비스관리(IT service management)의 중요성이 점증되고 있으며 아웃소싱 서비스 성과를 높이기 위하여 IT서비스 방법론 도입이 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 IT 아웃소싱 서비스 성과향상을 목표로 도입된 ITIL기반 IT서비스관리 시스템의 효과를 사례를 통하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 IT서비스 관리 시스템 구축이 정보시스템의 시스템 품질, 정보 품질, 서비스 품질에 직접적인 영향을 미치고 있으나 최종사용자의 시스템 사용(use) 및 사용자 만족도에는 직접적인 영향을 미치지는 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 ITIL기반 IT서비스 관리 시스템 구축 성과와 그 영향 범위를 탐색함으로써 IT서비스프로세스 연구를 위한 발견들(findings)을 정리하고 향후 이를 도입하고자 하는 기업의 효과적인 IT서비스관리 체계 구축을 위한 지침을 제공한다.

  • In A institute, project managers present quarterly project performance report according to institute's law. In quarterly project performance report, progress of project performance and budget expended should be written. Progress of project performance and progress of budget expended are key management factors in A institute. Because financial database system Is already constructed, progress of budget expended is got from information system. But the progress of project performance that project manager estimate subjectively can not be judged of its correctness because there is not project management information system that is able to calculate the progress of project performance systematically. In this study, we present the project management system assign all activities to every project participator according to their work share rate using WBS(Work Breakdown Structure) and calculate the progress of project performance systematically Also we construct project management information system for above project management system implementing.

  • This study is designed to examine the current status of the performance warranty systems for asphalt pavements implemented in Europe, USA, and Japan, and to review the feasibility and possibility of introducing this system into the Korean environment. For such objectives, the concept and necessity of performance warranty and the status of Korean contracting systems and overseas performance warranty systems were evaluated. In particular, the bidding systems, performance guarantee systems, and maintenance work inclusion status in the projects and warranty specifications of Europe, USA and Japan were comparatively evaluated. And methods of introducing the performance warranty system by utilizing defects liability system and design-build contracts of Korea were suggested.

  • Information systems introduction and application are increasing suddenly from the enterprises while approaching the information age. It requires to manage the IS performance and understand quality of information systems for obtaining the competitive power of the enterprise through IS. Six Sigma is widely recognized today as a process improvement methodology that can cut costs and eliminate defects in information industry as well as manufacturing processes. This study provides a framework for managing performance of information systems which are used to obtain competitive advantage.
