  • This study is designed for improving wearing styles for middle-aged women who are in unsatisfactory body types and also providing the basic information about the suitable clothing designs for them. This study focuses on what kinds of body types they perceive, what the differences are between the perception of their body types and the real ones, and how the actual clothing styles can be affected by those perceived body types. This study is based on the survey of the perception of body types, the clothing styles, and the satisfaction level of body cathexis, while measuring body size of each person responded. The data were analyzed by Mean, ANOVA, Duncan-test of SPSS Win. (ver 10.1)program. The results are as follows: 1. The perception of their body types can be categorized into three clusters, the obesity, the arm & leg obesity, the slender. 2. By and large, Middle-aged women perceive their body types exactly what they we. However, they show a relatively subjective view on the upper arm girth, ankle girth, and arm length 3. The abdomen is at the lowest satisfactory part in body cathexis for the entire groups responded, and there are some differences among the perception of their body types in whole body silhouette and trunk. 4. Middle-aged women who perceive themselves as a bit slender show a tendency of having tight and revealing clothing styles, while the obese who perceived themselves wouldn't take them as appropriate dresses.

  • Background: Since the Republic of Korea became a labor-force-importing country, the number of foreign workers has increased gradually, especially in the construction industry. The main objective of this study was to examine the differences in safety perception between domestic and foreign workers at Korean construction sites. Methods: A total of 891 Korean and foreign workers were surveyed: 140 foreign and 751 Korean workers. The general characteristics and 25 factors influencing safety perception were considered in the questionnaire. Regression and correlation analyses were conducted to examine the variables of workers' safety perception. Results: Differences of nationality (F = 7.379, p < 0.001) and workplace accidents were statistically significant for both domestic (F = 1.503, p < 0.05) and foreign workers (F = 7.868, p < 0.05). In contrast, age, education, and Korean language level were significant variables only for foreign workers. Correlation coefficients of $0.428^{**}$ for Korean and 0.148 for foreign workers between two items - namely, "management's commitment to safety" and "blaming staff when they make mistakes" - support the conclusion that foreign workers do not trust management's commitment to safety, while Korean workers have confidence in these commitments. Conclusion: Foreign workers' level of safety perception should rise to the same level as Korean workers, especially in terms of obeying safety rules, safety education performance, and safety beliefs. Therefore, an improvement plan for the Korean construction industry is suggested in order to have a better safety level at construction sites with foreign workers.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics and differences in the perception of professionalism of workers in public and private social welfare institutions, and to understand the effect of professionalism perception on job commitment and performance. The main results and implications are as follows. First, there was a statistically significant difference in the perception of professionalism of public and private social workers. Specifically, private 3.26 and public 3.15 were higher in the recognition of professionalism of social workers working in the private sector than in the public sector. Second, both public and private social workers' perception of professionalism had an effect on job commitment and job performance. In other words, the higher the recognition of professionalism, the higher the job commitment and performance of both private and public sector workers. Third, workers in the private sector were higher in both job commitment and job performance than those in public institutions. In short, although professionalism perception affects the job commitment and performance of private and public workers, the job commitment and performance of private social welfare organizations with high professionalism awareness is high.

  • This study examines the changes in attractiveness and social perception of mask wearers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before COVID-19, masks were seen as a sign of infection, decreasing the wearer's attractiveness. However, with the widespread normalization of mask-wearing during the pandemic, the perception mechanisms have become more complex. The attractiveness and social perception of mask wearers now vary based on factors such as the wearer's baseline attractiveness, race, and attitudes toward masks. Consequently, research findings on perception changes due to mask-wearing have been inconsistent. This inconsistency is due to the lack of standardized experimental methods and the failure to account for individual differences among participants, as well as insufficient theoretical background in the studies. From a psychiatric perspective, it is essential to formulate and test new hypotheses centered around the psychological mechanisms related to the human behavioral immune system when studying attractiveness perception during a pandemic. Notably, attention should be given to how differences in the activation of individuals' behavioral immune systems influence perceptions of mask wearers. Understanding these dynamics can provide crucial insights into how social perceptions and aversions impact mental health, thereby shedding light on various psychiatric issues that arise during infectious disease outbreaks.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of knowledge of hepatitis A, health perception, and health promoting behavior among young and middle-age adult's. Methods: 207 young and middle-age adult's workers living in Gyeonggi-do participated in this study and completed structured questionnaire. The knowledge of hepatitis A was assessed by the questionnaire which researchers developed. Health perception was measured by Health Perception Scale (Ware, 1979) while health promoting behavior was assessed by Lee's(2006) questionnaire. These data were analyzed with Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test, ANOVA. Results: The knowledge score of hepatitis A was 9.53; the health perception score was 3.71; the health promoting behavior score was 3.38. There were no significant differences in knowledge of hepatitis A, health perception, and health promoting behaviors. However, A significant correlation was found between health perception and health promoting behaviors. Conclusion: The knowledge of hepatitis A found to be low. Therefore further study needs to develop nursing interventions that could improve knowledge and awareness of hepatitis A.

  • Object:This study was to investigate the difference of speech perception ability in schizophrenic patients, and depression patients in order to explore trait-dependent speech perception ability of each disorder. Methods:The speech perception ability was assessed with masked speech tracking test(MST) in schizophrenic patients(N=31), depression patients(N=25), and normal controls(N=21). The continuous performance test(CPT) and sentence repetition test(SRT) were also used for assessment of attention and working memory. Results:The schizophrenic patients showed significant impaired MST performance, compared with depressive patients and normal controls. The performances of CPT and SRT were also more impaired in schizophrenic patients. The difference of MST performances between two patient group was cancelled out after consideration of differences in CPT & SRT performances. Conclusions:These results imply that schizophrenic patients have the impaired speech perception ability compared with depressive patients and normal controls. But speech perception ability was significantly influenced with CPT and SRT. For evaluation of pure speech perception ability, the more elaborate controlled study that excluded factors such as attention, working memory and intelligence is needed.

  • The aims of the present study are two-fold: 1) to explore differences on speech perception between younger and older adults according to noise conditions; and 2) to investigate which cognitive domains are correlated with speech perception. Data were acquired from 15 younger adults and 15 older adults. Sentence recognition test was conducted in four noise conditions(i.e., in-quiet, +5 dB SNR, 0 dB SNR, -5 dB SNR). All participants completed auditory and cognitive assessment. Upon controlling for hearing thresholds, the older group revealed significantly poorer performance compared to the younger adults only under the high noise condition at -5 dB SNR. For older group, performance on Seoul Verbal Learning Test(immediate recall) was significantly correlated with speech perception performance, upon controlling for hearing thresholds. In older adults, working memory and verbal short-term memory are the best predictors of speech-in-noise perception. The current study suggests that consideration of cognitive function for older adults in speech perception assessment is necessary due to its adverse effect on speech perception under background noise.
