  • QPSK (Quaternary Phase Shift Keying) will be adopted as the modulation of HRIT (High Rate Information Transmission) which is transmitted to COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) through HPA (High Power Amplifier) in ground segment. Due to the nonlinearity of HPA, IMD (Inter-Modulation Distortion) of multi-carrier signals and PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) of modulated HRIT must be considered to estimate the output power of HPA. In this paper, we measured the PAPR to various the roll-off factor of RRC (Root Raised Cosine filter) which is filtering the modulated HRIT signal for reducing ISI (Inter-Symbol Interference) and bandwidth. It was found that the minimum PAPR is 2.78dB at 0.5 of roll-off factor for scrambled data. It's 2.78dB of P APR will be in output power selecting in COMS earth station.

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been adopted as a standard for various high data rate wireless communication systems due to the spectral bandwidth efficiency, robustness to frequency selective fading channels, etc. However, implementation of the OFDM system entails several difficulties. One of the major drawbacks is the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), which results in intercarrier interference, high out-of-band radiation, and bit error rate performance degradation, mainly due to the nonlinearity of the high power amplifier. This paper reviews the conventional PAPR reduction schemes and their modifications for achieving the low computational complexity required for practical implementation in wireless communication systems.

  • In this paper, the application of genetic algorithms (GAs) for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction is investigated. A GA is applied in order to enhance the performance of some known techniques for OFDM PAPR reduction and the potential benefits are analyzed. Using the proposed techniques, the system designer can take advantage of the GA versatility, robustness, and adaptability to specific system requirements, in order to achieve a convenient trade-off between effectiveness and computational burden.

  • We propose in this paper a companding scheme for PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) reduction in OFBM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) systems. By exploiting statical distribution of OFDM transmit signals, the proposed scheme effectively reduces the PAPR by compressing the peak signals, while maintaining the average power unchanged. Simulation results are provided to show good performance of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose a companding scheme to effectively reduce PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) of the OFDM (Orthogonal frequency Division Multiplexing) signals. The proposed scheme is basically based on the companding scheme to consider both complexity and Bit Error Rate (BER) performance, and composed of the clipping followed by the companding scheme. In the first step of the proposed scheme, some of peak signals which do not influence the BER even without them, are clipped. In the second step, the proposed scheme utilizes the ${\mu}-law$ companding to effectively reduce the PAPR. Simulation results show that the proposed clipped companding scheme can provide more PAPR reduction without degradation of the BER performance, as compare to the conventional ${\mu}-law$ companding.

  • SLM (Selected Mapping) is an efficient PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) reduction scheme without transmitted signal distortion in OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) systems. However, enormous IFFTs (Inverse Fast Fourier Transforms) are needed to generate sufficient candidate OFDM signals, which cause the SLM to become quite complex. In this paper, we propose a new SLM scheme that replaces the IFFT operations with a conversion of the first candidate OFDM signal. The proposed scheme significantly reduces computational complexity, while it shows almost the same PAPR performance as the conventional SLM scheme.

  • We introduce a rotated square QAM constellation with low peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) for coordinate interleaved orthogonal design (CIOD). The proposed signal constellation has much lower PAPR than the ordinary square QAM constellations for CIOD while it keeps almost the same coordinate product distance (CPD).

  • We propose an ATI (Adaptive Tone Injection) scheme based on clipping noise for PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) reduction of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) signals. The proposed scheme is composed of three steps: clipping, tone selection, and TI procedures. In the first step, the peak samples in the IFFT (Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) outputs are scaled down by clipping. In the second step, the sub-carrier position where the power of the clipping noise is the maximum, is selected. Finally, the generic TI procedure is performed. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme does not require all the possible combinations of the original TI procedures, while maintaining the PAPR reduction performance.

  • We propose an ATR (Adaptive Tone Reservation) scheme based on clipping noise for PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) reduction of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) signals. The proposed scheme is composed of three steps: clipping, tone selection, and TR procedures. In the first step, the peak samples in the IFFT (Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) outputs are scaled down by clipping. In the second step, the sub-carrier position where the power of the clipping noise is the maximum, is selected. Finally, the generic TR procedure is performed. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme does not require all the possible combinations for the original TR procedures, while maintaining the PAPR reduction performance.
