Parents of Children with Asperger Syndrome: Relationships between Early Attachment Experiences and Parenting Behaviors

  • Research with parents of children with Asperger Syndrome was conducted to assess whether the level of positive parental attachment correlated positively with positive parenting behaviors and negatively with negative parenting behaviors. Participants were recruited from internet. The Parental Bonding Inventory measured parents' perception of their bonding or attachment with three aspects of their own parents: warmth, control, and care. In the Parenting Behavior Inventory, parents reported recent interaction/reaction behaviors with their child, and results focused on two aspects of parenting, supportive/engaged and hostile/coercive behaviors: each identified as problematic to parenting and attributable to a variety of specific parenting behaviors. Analysis of demographic variables for correlations with positive parenting behaviors and negative parenting behaviors were carried out by Pearson correlations. Two separate standard multiple regressions, one for positive parenting behaviors and one for negative parenting behaviors, were conducted. Findings support the hypothesis that positive early attachment experience of parents has a significant impact upon their own positive parenting skills with their child with Asperger Syndrome. However, multiple regression of negative parenting behavior found no significant negative contribution by parental attachment. Demographic variables proved to be important.

성인 선천성 심장질환자들이 지각한 부모 양육태도, 질병인식과 불안간의 관계 (The Relationships among Perceived Parental Bonding, Illness Perception, and Anxiety in Adult Patients with Congenital Heart Diseases)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify the relationships among perceived parental bonding, illness perception, and anxiety and to determine the influences of perceived parental bonding and illness perception on anxiety in adult patients with congenital heart diseases. Methods: In this study a descriptive correlational design with survey method was utilized. The participants were 143 adult patients with congenital heart disease being cared for in the cardiology out-patient clinic of A medical center. Data were collected using the Parental Bonding Instrument, Illness Perception Questionnaire Revised Scale, and Cardiac Anxiety Questionnaire Scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and hierarchial regression analyses. Results: There showed significant positive relationships of anxiety with maternal overprotection, consequences, and personal control respectively. Among predictors, maternal overprotection (${\beta}=.45$), consequence (${\beta}=.26$), and personal control (${\beta}=-.03$) had statistically significant influence on anxiety. Conclusion: Nursing interventions to decrease maternal overprotection and negative consequence, and to enhance personal control are essential to decrease the anxiety of adult patients with congenital heart diseases.

청소년의 아동학대 경험이 학교폭력 가해행동에 이르는 경로 -사회발달모델(Social Development Model)을 중심으로)- (Pathways from Child Abuse to Adolescent School Violence -Focusing on Social Development Model-)

  • 본 연구는 청소년의 아동학대 경험이 학교폭력 가해행동에 미치는 과정을 사회발달모델(Social Development Model)에 근거하여 부모애착, 학교유대감, 비행친구접촉의 매개변인으로 구성된 경로모형을 제시하고 이를 구조방정식모형으로 검증하였다. 이를 위해 2012년 10월 15일~11월 25일까지 서울 및 경기지역 50개 중학교에 재학 중인 남 여 청소년을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였고, 회수된 설문지 1,836부 중 응답이 부실한 59부와 부모가 없거나 한부모라고 응답한 214부를 제외한 총 1,563부의 자료가 최종분석에 사용되었다. 분석결과, 청소년의 학대경험은 학교폭력 가해행동에 직접적인 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라, 부모애착, 학교유대감, 비행친구접촉의 매개변수를 통해 간접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 통해 청소년의 학교폭력을 효과적으로 예방하기 위한 실천 및 정책방안이 논의되었다.

아동이 지각한 부모의 양육행동과 또래 괴롭힘에 관한 단기종단연구 : 아동의 성을 중심으로 (A Short-Term Longitudinal Study on Parental Bonding & Participant Roles in Bullying Situations : Focused on Children's Gender)

  • This study explored the differences in gender, developmental period and parents in terms of parenting, the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships in parenting by gender, and the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships between participant roles in bullying situations and parenting by gender. The subjects were 498 4-5th grade children and the instruments utilized in this study were the Parental Bonding Instrument (Bowers, Smith, & Binney, 1994) and the Participant Roles Scale (Sutton & Smith, 1999). The subjects were contacted again one year after the first contact. Results showed that the relationships between parents were longitudinally quite stable. Girls whose fathers had higher levels of accurate monitoring were more likely to be defenders cross-sectionally. Girls whose parents had more accurate monitoring were less likely to be victims longitudinally. The results underscore the importance of examining both gender and participant roles in bullying situations.

지각된 부모- 자녀관계가 자녀의 자아개념에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Perceived Parental Bonding on Self-Concept)

  • The study was designed to examine the effect of perceived past parent-child bonding on present parent-child attachment, self-concept. The data collection period was October 6-18, 2003. The subject was college students in university located in Nonsan, Taejon city and 197 surveys were used in the analysis. As for the tools used in this study to assess the perceived past parent - child bonding scale by Parent Bonding Instrument - Korean Version, and present parent-child attachment were measured with the The Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment, and self-concept were measured with Jung, Won Sik's self-concept inventory. For the data processing, the analyses of variance, multiple regression, correlation were carried out. The result of this study is summarized as follows. 1. The examination of the effect of perceived past parent-child bonding on present parent-child attachment showed that significant differences are made by communication, trust, alienation in care, overprotection perceived past parent-child bonding. 2. As for the correlation between perceived past parent-child bonding and child self-concept, a significant correlation is revealed between care, overprotection perceived past parent-child bonding and child self-concept.

알코올 중독자 부모를 둔 청소년의 자녀역할과 학교 적응과의 관계에서 부모애착과 교사관심의 조절효과 (Moderating Effects of Parental Attachment and Teacher's Concerns in the Relationships between Children's Roles and School Adjustment among Children's of Alcoholics)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between children's roles, parental attachment, teacher's concerns and school adjustment among Children's Alcoholics(COAs). Participants were 2,803 middle and high school students in Seoul. The regression analysis results showed that hero role was positively associated with school bonding and academic performance but increased the level of anxiety/depression. Meanwhile, scapegoat and lost children's roles were negatively associated with school bonding and also increased the level of anxiety/depression. Mascot role were positively associated with school bonding and academic performance but had no relation with anxiety/depression. Regarding moderating effects, maternal attachment moderated the relationship between scapegoat role and school bonding while teacher's concerns moderated the relationship between hero role and anxiety/depression, and the relationship between scapegoat role and anxiety/depression. These findings suggested that practitioners need to consider the contributions of children's roles on school adjustment and moderating effects of maternal attachment or teacher's concerns when intervention programs are developed to improve school adjustment among COAs.

학령기 아동이 인지한 부모의 양육태도, 문제행동과 적응유연성과의 관계 (Relationship among Perception of Parenting Attitude, Behavior Problems and Resilience of School Age Children)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to describe the relationship of perception of parenting attitude, behavior problems and resilience of school age children. Methods: Participants were 131 children enrolled in the 4th to 6th grades. Data were collected from November 29 to December 6, 2010 using a self-report questionnaire. The questionnaire included the Parental Bonding Instrument, Korean version of Youth Self-Report, and Resilience. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 18.0 program. Results: There were significant differences in resilience according to gender, relationship with peers, academic achievement and school satisfaction. Resilience showed a positive correlation with parental bonding attitude and negative correlation with problem behavior in the children. Conclusion: This result suggests that interventions focusing on parenting attitude to enhance resilience should be developed to help school age children.

  • 연구 목적 : 부모의 양육태도와 소아 ${\cdot}$ 청소년의 우울 성향과의 상호 관련 양상을 연구한다. 연구 방법 : 남녀 중학생 287명을 대상으로 소아·우울척도와 부모 양육 태도 검사를 이용한 자가보고형 설문형식을 작성하도록 하였다. 연구 결과 : 부모의 양육태도와 우울성향과의 상관관계를 알아본 결과 아버지와의 관계보다 어머니와의 관계가 자녀들의 우울성향에 밀접한 영향을 미친다는 사실을 확인하였다. 부모와의 결합의 형태에 따라 군을 분류하여 보았을 때 부모 모두 돌봄이 적고 과보호가 많은 군(애정없는 통제군)에서 우울성향이 가장 높게 보고되었고. 돌봄이 많고 과보호가 적은 군(적합한 결합군)에서 우울성향이 가장 낮게 보고되었다. 결 론 : 부모의 양육태도는 청소년기의 우울 증상에 주요 원인으로 작용하며. 과보호가 적고 돌봄이 많은 형태가 가장 이상적인 것으로서 과보호가 많고 돌봄이 적을수록 우울성향이 증가됨을 알 수 있었다.

후기 청소년의 부모-자녀 관계, 사회적 지지 및 대처 (Perceived Social Support and Parent-child Relationship ,Coping in Late Adolescents)

  • The Purpose of this study was to identify of parent-child relationship, Perceived social support and coping of female in late adolescents and its relationships. The underlying assumption is that Parent-child relationship based on internal working cognition affects on perceived social support and coping. The sample was consisted of 277 female students of college. The instruments used in this study were Parental bonding instrument (PBI)(Parker, Tupling & Brown. 1979), Personal resources questionnaire : PRQ-part II (Weinert ' Brant, 1987), and Way of coping (Folkman & Lazarus, 1985). The data was analyzed using frequencies, correlation coefficient, ANOVA. and t-test. As a result. perceived social support correlated positively with Parental care and negatively with parental overprotection. Perceived social support showed positive relationship with coping. Perceived social support differed according to parent-child relationship type. The group of 'affectionate constraint' high care and high overprotection. reported high perceived social support, but 'affectionless control'(low care and high overprotection) reported low perceived social support. The group of high perceived social support showed higher parental care and higher coping than low one. The group of high coping showed higher parental care, lower parental overprotection and higher perceived social support than low one. Findings from this study linking retrospective accounts of early parental relationships to current working models concerning the nature of supportive relationships are consistent with attachment theory that individual who, as children, experienced relationships with their parents that were independent-encourage. affectionate, and not overprotective developed working models of others as available to provide social support. This study confirmed that perceived social support significantly related to coping in dealing with stress.

성인 애착유형과 미혼남녀의 사랑유형 및 이성교제의 관계 (The relationship among adult attachment types, love styles and dating of single people)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation among parental bonding, attachment styles, love styles and satisfaction in dating and their effects on other variables. The main findings of the study were as follows 1)The stronger the relationship with one's parents in infancy, the higher the possibility to forge secure attachment. 2)There was a significant correlation between attachment styles and love styles. 3)There was a significant correlation between attachment styles and dating satisfaction. 4)There were meaningful differences on dating satisfaction and duration among different love types. This study showed the importance of forging secure attachment between parents and children, and found related variables that can affect dating satisfaction and duration. However, the study results were based on a limited group of people, which limits the generalizability of the results to the general public. Follow-up studies that cover a wide range of age groups and related variables are necessary.
