  • A robust stability condition for linear systems with time delay in all variables and parameter uncertainties in all system matrices is derived. Robust performance condition that accounts for robust model-matching of closed loop system and disturbance rejection is also derived. Using the robust performance condition, robust $H^{\infty}$ controller and .mu.(sgructured singular value) controller with two-degree-of-freedom(2DOF) are designed. The controller structure is considered for $H^{\infty}$ controller, while uncertainity structure is considered for .mu. controller. Using the proposed method, $H^{\infty}$ and .mu. controllers for underwater vehicle with time delay and parameter variations are designed. Simulations of a design example with hydrodynamic parameter variations and disturbance are presented to demonstrate the achievement of good robust performance.ce.

  • The most vehicle active suspension system is activated by a hydraulic source and transmission system which has nonlinear characteristics. Even though we have designed a proper controller for this system, it sometimes cannot show remarkable performance characteristics because of many factors that undercut the performance of the hydraulic system, such as nonlinearity, modelling errors, parameter variations etc. So, the robust controller that prevents a system from lowering its performance is needed. In this study, the sliding mode control which is the representative one of robust controllers is adopted to investigate system parameter sensibility. As a result, the sliding mode controller shows robustness to the system parameters variations relative to the other controllers.

  • The robust control technique is generally the iterative design method to determine a robust control for perturbed system with prescribed range of perturbation based on the robust stability measure. However, robot manipulator has the structured pertubation and the unstructured one. This paper proposes the robust technique for designing controller such that the trajectory of end-effector of robot manipulator tracks asymptotically the desired trajectory for all allowable variations in the manipulator's parameter. For satisfying asymptotical stability though we can not know the bound of perturbations and the parameter variations, the relation between the unknown parameter and the parameter of nominal system can be derived from Krasovskii theorem and we construct the new robust control using that relation. • This paper presents an online voltage disturbance estimator to achieve precise torque control of IPMSMs over a high speed operating region. The proposed design has a type of state-filter based on a Luenburger-style closed loop stator current vector observer. Utilizing the frequency response plot (FRF) approach, the estimation accuracy and the parameter sensitivities are analyzed. Accurate torque control and improved efficiency are provided with the decoupling of the effect of the parameter variations. The feasibility of the presented idea is verified by laboratory experiments.

  • Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is receiving increased attention for servo drive applications in recent years because of its high torque to inertia ratio, superior power density and high efficiency. Vector-controlled PMSM has the same operating characteristics as separately excited dc motor. The drive system of servo motor is requested to have an accurate response for the speed reference and a quick recovery for the disturbance such as load torque. However the dynamics of PMSM drive change greately by parameter variations. Morever, when the unkown and inaccessible disturbances are imposed on PMSM, the drive system is given a significant effect by them. As a result, the drive system with both a fast drive performance and a reduced sensitivity to parameter variations is requested. In this paper, the robust control system of PMSM with torque feedforward using load torque observer is presented. In the proposed system, load torque is estimated by the reduced order observer, and the robust control system against load torque variation is realized using the torque feedforward. Moreover, the design of speed controller with the torque observer is discussed. Simulation results show that the proposed method is effective for suppression of parameter variations and load disturbance.

  • Although the general sliding mode control has the robust property, bounds on the disturbances and parameter variations are known to the designer of the system control. But sometimes these bounds may not be easily obtained. However, fuzzy control provides an effective way to design the controller of the system with the disturbances and parameter variations. Therefore, combination of the best feature of fuzzy control and sliding mode control is considered. When using the conventional VSC, generally the reaching phase problem occurs, which cause the system response to be sensitive to parameter variations and external disturbances. In order to overcome these problems, an adaptive fuzzy VSC with sliding surface eliminating reaching phase is proposed. The validity of the proposed scheme is shown by results of experiments for the BLDC motor.

  • Free vibration of non-uniform embedded nanoplates based on classical (Kirchhoff's) plate theory in conjunction with nonlocal elasticity theory has been studied. The nanoplate is assumed to be rested on two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation. Non-uniform material properties of nanoplates have been considered by taking linear as well as quadratic variations of Young's modulus and density along the space coordinates. Detailed analysis has been reported for all possible casesof such variations. Trial functions denoting transverse deflection of the plate are expressed in simple algebraic polynomial forms. Application of the present method converts the problem into generalised eigen value problem. The study aims to investigate the effects of non-uniform parameter, elastic foundation, nonlocal parameter, boundary condition, aspect ratio and length of nanoplates on the frequency parameters. Three-dimensional mode shapes for some of the boundary conditions have also been illustrated. One may note that present method is easier to handle any sets of boundary conditions at the edges.

  • This paper proposes a new adaptive speed controller to achieve a robust speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). The proposed adaptive regulator does not require any information on the motor parameter and load torque values, so it is very insensitive to model parameter and load torque variations. Also, the stability of the proposed adaptive control system is proven. To validate the robustness of the proposed adaptive speed controller, both simulation and experimental results are provided under motor parameter and load torque variations. It is clearly demonstrated that the proposed adaptive regulator can accurately control the speed of permanent magnet synchronous motors.
