Simple Tuning Methods of PID Controller for Integrating Processes with Time Delay (시간지연을 갖는 적분 시스템의 간단한 PID 제어기 동조법)

  • Simple tuning methods of PI, PD and PID controller are proposed for an integrating process with time delay. This is based on matching the coefficients of corresponding powers of s in the numerator and that in the denominator of the closed-loop transfer function. For set-point tracking problem, the derived controller is found to be a PD controller which is shown by Lee's tuning rule based on minimizing the performance indexes (ISE, IAE, ITAE) using a real-coded genetic algorithm. A method can be also proposed PI, PID controllers according to tuning parameter lambda $({\lambda})$ similar to IMC method. Simulation example is given to illustrate the set-point tracking and disturbance rejection performance of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a new design method for IMC-PID that adds a phase scaling factor of system identifications to the standard IMC-PID controller as a control parameter is proposed. Based on analytically derived frequency properties such as gain, phase margin and maximum magnitude of sensitivity function, this tuning rule is an optimal control method determining the optimum values of controlling factors to minimize the cost function, integral error criterion of the step response in time domain, in the constraints of design parameters to guarantee qualified frequency design specifications. The proposed controller improves existing single-parameter design methods of IMC-PID in the inflexibility problem to be able to consider various design specifications. Its effectiveness is examined by a simulation example, where a comparison of the performances obtained with the proposed tuning rule and with other common tuning rules is shown.

  • Sliding mode control guarantees robustness in the presence of modeling uncertainties and external disturbances. However, this can be obtained at the cost of high control activity that may lead to chattering As one way to alleviate this problem a boundary layer around sliding surface is typically used. In this case the selection of controller gain, control ban width and boundary layer thickness is a crucial problem for the trade-off between tracking error and chattering. The parameter tuning is usually done by trail-and-error in practice causing significant effort and time. An auto tuning method based on fuzzy rules is proposed in the paper in this method tracking error and chattering are monitored by performance indices and the controller tunes the design parameters intelligently in order to compromise both indices. To demonstrate the efficiency of the propose method a mass-spring translation system and a roboic control system are simulated and tested It is shown that the proposed algorithm is effective to facilitae the parameter tuning for sliding mode controllers.

  • This paper presents a parameter tuning method of a LLC resonant converter for a wireless charging circuit. A switched-capacitor is used to change the resonant frequency of the resonant circuit. The simulation results verify that the efficiency of the power transfer can be improved by a duty control of the switched-capacitor for various values of the coupling coefficient.

  • This paper describes new PID control methods based on the fuzzy logic. PID gains are retuned after evaluating control performances of transient responses in terms of performance features. The retuning procedure is based on fuzzy rules and reasoning accumulated from the knowledge of experts on PID gain scheduling. For the case that the retuned PID gains result in worse CLDR (characteristics of load disturbance rejection) than the initial gains, an on-line tuning scheme of the set-point weighting parameter is, proposed. This is based on the fact that the set-point weighting method efficiently reduce either overshoot or undershoot without any degradation of CLDR. The set-point weighting parameter is adjusted at each sampling instant by the fuzzy rules and reasoning. As a result, better control performances were achived in comparison with die controllers tuned by the Z-N (Ziegler-Nichols) parameter tuning formula or by the fixed set-point weighting parameter.

  • Tuning the architecture of SVM (support vector machine) is to build an SVM model of better performance. Two different tuning methods of the grid search and the GA (genetic algorithm) have been addressed in the literature, each of which has its own methodological pros and cons. This paper suggests a combined method for tuning the architecture of SVM models, which employs the GAM (generalized additive models), the grid search, and the GA in sequence. The GAM is used for selecting input variables, and the grid search and the GA are employed for finding optimal parameter values of the SVM models. Applying the method to a bankruptcy prediction problem, we show that SVM model tuned by the proposed method outperforms other SVM models.

  • In this study, a systematic and effective tuning method of the actuator control parameters of the control loading system for aircraft based on control theory is presented. Firstly, to raise the time response of the system, the proportional gain and the integral gain of the velocity control loop is maximized within the range where vibration and noise does not occur. And then the position control loop is composed by getting the transfer function of the control loading system including the velocity control loop. With the root locus of the composed position control loop, the proportional gain of the position control loop that keeps stable transient state and leads good time response of the system is predicted, and the simulations are performed by using the predicted gain. Lastly, the actuator control parameters of actual control loading system are set to the previously obtained gain values. And the experiments to actuate the control loading system are executed. It shows that the tuning method of the actuator control parameter proposed in this study is applied to actual control loading system very well by comparing the results of the experiments with those of the simulations.

  • This paper presents the design method of controller which is combined Genetic Algorithms with the Generalized minimum variance self tuning controller. It is shown that the controllers adapts to changes in the system parameters with time delays and noises. The self tuning effect is achieved through the recursive least square algorithm at the parameter estimation stage and also through the Robbins-Monro algorithm at the stage of optimizing a polynomial parameters. The computer simulation results are presented to illustrate the procedure and to show the performance of the control system.

  • In this paper self tuning control of interconnected systems are dealt in view point of large scale system control. The plant model is given in multiple ARMA process. This process is simplified as independent SISO ARMA process having offset terms. This offset was considered as effects of interconnections. In each decentralized system, self tuning controller with instrumental variable method is adopted. As a result, this algorithm enables the parameter estimation to be unbiased and non-drift. This controller contains a new implicit offset rejection technique. Simulation results considers well with the analysis in case of linear interconnection.
