  • Reliable discrimination of a single nucleotide mismatch was demonstrated using arrays with peptide nucleic acid (PNA) probes. The newly developed PNA probes immobilization method and hybridization conditions for PNA arrays gave excellent specificity and sensitivity. In addition we compared the specificity, sensitivity, and stability obtained with the PNA and DNA arrays in discriminating single nucleotide mismatches. The PNA arrays had superior perfect match-to-mismatch signal ratios and sensitivities. The relative signal intensities of mismatch PNA probes ranged from 1.6% to 12.1% of the perfect-match PNA probes. These results demonstrated that the PNA arrays were 2.0 to 37.3 times more specific and about 10 times more sensitive than DNA arrays. The PNA array showed the same specificity and sensitivity after 12-month storage at room temperature.

  • This study examines the stress-strain and acid-resistance of pine needle ash (PNA) concrete. Materials used for this experiment are PNA , normal portland cement, natural fine and coarse aggregate. Test results show that the highest static modulus of elasticity are achieved by 5 % PNA filled PNA concrete. Acid-resistance of PNA concrete is increased with increase of the content of PNA. It is 1.29 times of the normal cement concrete for 5 % PNA filled PNA concrete and 2.57 times fo r15% PNA filled PNA concrete, based on the elased days for 25% mass loss of original mass immersed in the 5% H2SO4 solution. Accordingly, PNA concrete will greatly improve the properties of concrete.

  • The Home Phoneline Networking Alliance(HomePNA) 2.0 technology can establish a home network using existing in-home phone lines, which provides a channel rate of 4-32 Mbps. HomePNA 2.0 Medium Access Control(MAC) protocol adopts an IEEE 802.3 Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection(CSMA/CD) access method, Quality of Service(QoS) algorithm, and Distributed Fair Priority Queuing(DFPQ) collision resolution algorithm. In this paper, we describe some performance analysis results of HomePNA 2.0 MAC protocol and the requirements of HomePNA 2.0 MAC controller. Then, we propose the architecture of HomePNA 2.0 MAC controller circuit, show the simulation result of each block included in HomePNA 2.0 MAC controller, and present the HomePNA 2.0 transceiver chip that we have implemented.

  • In this Paper, we present the design of 10Mbps HomePNA(Home Phoneline Networking Alliance) PHY which is Home Network Technology using phone-line. It is connected with external interface through MII(Media Independent Interface) and AFE(Analog Front End) Interface. 10Mbps HomePNA PHY is composed with Management Block IEEE 802.3 CSMA/CD MAC(Media Access Control) Block Modulator block and Demodulator block. For their verification, we designed a prototype FPGA PCB board using XPC860T made in Motorola. We verified HomePNA frame data transmission using a driver program based Linux kernel. we verified rate negotiation by HomepNA 2.0 Link Layer Protocol.

  • Collision Management Protocol (CMP) efficiently resolves collisions when data frames are transmitted in networks consisting of HomPNA 3.0 asynchronous MAC mode device with random access. Unlike Distributed Fair Priority Queueing (DFPQ) algorithm in HomePNA 2.0 or Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm in IEEE 802.11, order of retransmission is decided according to Collision Signaling Sequence (CSS) values allocated to each device. Thus, CMP can minimize the number of mean collisions because order of retransmission is decided in a deterministic way. In this paper. we evaluate the saturation performance of CMP in HomePNA 3.0 using an analytic method.

  • We studied the effects of smoking, which is one of indoor-environmental pollutants and related to various cancers, on glycoconjugates of rat sebaceous glands with the lectin histochemistry. To investigate the effects of smoking on glycoconjugates, male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to tabacco smoke for 10 minutes per day in an inhalation chamber for 1, 2, 3, and 5 days with active and passive exposure. For the structure of sebaceous glands we used PAS reaction, and for the glycoconjugates binding pattern 9 biotinylated lectins (DBA, SBA, PNA, BSL-1, WGA, RCA-1, UEA-1, Con A, and LCA) were used. Some remarkable changes, such as the decrease in the size of sebaceous glandular acini, the destruction of upper portion of sebaceous glands, vacuolation of central portion of sebocytes, and the immature sebaceous glandular acini were seen in the smoke-exposed rats. In the control rats, basal cells were stained with BSL-1, PNA and WGA, but the stronger reaction was founded in BSL-1 binding. Also, sebocytes were stained with PNA, WGA, Con A, BSL-1 and SBA, but stronger reactions were founded in PNA and Con A stainings. Specific changes in the lectin binding patterns were also observed in the smoke-exposed rats. In the basal cells of exposed rats, PNA binding increased, BSL-1 decreased but returned to control level, and WGA disappeared. Plus, immature glandular acini, which were not found in the control rats, were stained PNA, Con A and BSL-1, but the stronger reaction were founded in PNA and Con A binding. In conclusion, it was assumed that the tabacco smoke seriously effected on the structure and glycoconjugates metabolism of sebaceous glands.

  • In this paper, we propose the architecture of modem receiver to fabricate HomePNA 2.0 chip. HomePNA suffers from inferior channel because of bridge tap, the effect of amateur HAM band and so on. To transfer data over such channel, HomePNA 2.0 uses training sequence to equalize channel and uses FD-QAM optionally as modulation method. So modem receiver demodulate QAM based signal and needs optimum architecture that fully uses these transmission feature. As a result of research, we define 2 mode function of modem receiver depending on TX/RX state. In this paper, particularly, we show the algorithm of equalizer, carrier phase recovery and frame synchromzationblock and propose architecture that improve the performance of channel equalization and is stable in operation. In the end, we estimate the performance of proposed HomePNA2.0 modem receiver over HomePNA TEST LOOP using SPW program.
