The PMOLED data driver circuit improving the output current deviation problem (출력 전류 불균일 현상을 개선한 PMOLED 데이터 구동 회로)

  • This paper proposes a newly structured circuit that can compensate current deviation of a data driver circuit for OLED. A conventional data drivel circuit for OLED cannot compensate the current deviation at the data drivel circuit output terminal generated by MOS process change, but the proposed data drivel circuit can authorize uniform value of current to an OLED panel by calibrating the current deviation at the output terminal. The proposed circuit can minimize current deviation of the output current via process change by connecting the circuit for data output current with a common interconnect line through addition of a switching transistor to the existing data output circuit. The circuit proposed in this paper has been designed based on an OLED panel supporting $128{\times}128$ resolution, and the process used for driver circuit development is 0.35um. As a result of the experiment in this study, the output current of the data driver circuit proposed here has 1% range of error, while 9% range of severe changes was demonstrated in the case of the previous data driver circuit. When using the data driver circuit for OLED proposed in this paper, high definition OLED display can be actualized and the circuit can be applied to mobile display devices requiring high quality display features.

  • This paper presents a design of the PMOLED(Passive Matrix Organic light emitting diodes) driver IC improving the terminal current offset. The proposed methods are improving the design of the usual data output circuit. This methods can be avoidance brightness non-uniformity problem.

  • We have developed a self-aligned single isolation structure (SIS) and an asymmetric single isolation structure with an image reversal photoresist to increase the aperture ratio in a passive matrix organic light emitting display (PMOLED). Compared to the conventional structure, the fabrication process is reduced by about 17% and the aperture ratio is enlarged over 4%.

  • In the research, we have proposed a novel encapsulation with simple process and steady film for external environment in comparison with conventional encapsulation method. This was designed to cover the emitting organic material from air. Silicon 야oxide was used for thin film of encapsulation and the deposition thickness of the organic film was 220 nm. Operating voltage of green OLED with encapsulation was 5.5 V and luminance was 7.370 cd/$m^2$ at the applied voltage of 14.5 V. Luminance was measured in 10 hour intervals at the air-exposed condition. After 110 hours and 300 hours, luminances of green OLED were 7,368 and 7,367 cd/$m^2$, respectively. Luminance of green JLED doesn't decrease until 300 hours. As a results, proposed encapsulation can increase the life time of green OLED.

  • Organic light emitting diode(OLED) has been developed fast from 1963 when electric light emitting phenomenon was discovered. PMOLED(passive matrix OLED) is producted earlier than AMOLED(active matrix OLED). PMOLED is mainly mounted at sub display, but AMOLED is mounted at main display. Nowadays AMOLED is expanded to PMP(portable multimedia players), navigation and TV market. Even thought OLED's market is opening to many applications, OLED's life is worried until now. If we know about OLED's real life, we need time to test so much time over 20,000hrs. Realistically, there is difficult to test such as long time with products from the information-technology sector having a short life cycle. In this paper, we study about OLED's accelerated test to reduce life test by current. We can design OLED's accelerated life model by the result of test. The model consists of design variables like ratio of light emitting, organic material structure, condition of aging, etc. In conclusion, this model can be applied to study about organic material, machine and manufacturing process etc, and also it's possible to develop a method of manufacturing process & materials, so we need to study on the subject of this paper continuously.

  • We has been analysed optical properties of OLED(organic light emitting diode) and characteristics of ITO(Indium Tin Oxide) in terms of $O_2$ plasma treatment for manufacturing high efficiency OLED, RF power of $O_2$ plasma was changed 25, 50, 100, 200 W. $O_2$ gas flow, gas pressure and treatment time were fixed. Sheet resistance and surface roughness of ITO were measured by Hall-effect measurement system and AFM, respectively. The ranges of sheet resistance and surface roughness were $5.5{\sim}6,06\;{\Omega}$ and $2.438{\sim}3.506\;nm$ changing of RF power, respectively, PM(Passive Matrix)OLED was fabricated with the structure of ITO(plasm treatment)/TPD($400\;{\AA}$)/$Alq_3(600\;{\AA})$/LiF($5\;{\AA}$)/Al($1200\;{\AA}$). Turn-on voltage of PMOLED was 7 V and luminance was $7,371\;cd/m^2$ at the RF power of 25 W, $O_2$ plasma treatment of ITO surface was result in lowering the operating voltage and improving luminance of PMOLED.

  • We manufactured a novel gas permeation thin film passivation by using inorganic Mg-Zn-F target which has better optical characteristics and high electronegativity. We fabricated targets in various composition ratio and formed about 200nm which is limited thickness of the flexible display. Applied to PLED device, the target which composed of $MgF_2$ and Zn at the ratio of 4:6, WVTR was reached the measurement limit of the equipment, $10^{-3}g/m^2{\cdot}day$ and the life time was increased 25 times better than PLED device which is non-passivation.

  • OLED는 1987년 현대적인 구조가 발표된 이후 10년 이내에 PMOLED가 상용화 되었으며, 20년이 지난 올해에 AMOLED의 본격적인 상용화가 기대되어, LCD나 PDP에 비해 훨씬 짧은 기간에 상용화된 유일한 디스플레이 기술로 인식되고 있다. 이러한 OLED는 향후에도 시장 및 기술이 가장 빨리 성장하는 디스플레이로 자리를 잡을 것으로 기대되고 있다. 2007년에 개수를 기준으로 약 1억 개, 금액을 기준으로 약 8억불의 시장규모를 형성하며, 2010년에는 개수를 기준으로 3억 6천만 개, 금액을 기준으로 40억불의 시장규모를 형성할 것으로 기대된다.
