Objective: To evaluate the effects of contamination by either blood or a hemostatic agent on the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic buttons. Methods: We used 45 freshly extracted, non-carious, impacted third molars that were divided into 3 groups of 15. Each tooth was etched with 37% phosphoric acid gel for 30 s. Human blood or the blood stopper agent was applied to the tooth surface in groups I and II, respectively. Group III teeth were untreated (controls). Orthodontic buttons were bonded to the teeth using light-curing composite resin. After bonding, the SBS of the button was determined using a Universal testing machine. Any adhesive remaining after debonding was assessed and scored according to the modified adhesive remnant index (ARI). ANOVA with post-hoc Tukey's test was used to determine significant differences in SBS and Fisher's exact test, to determine significant differences in ARI scores among groups. Results: ANOVA indicated a significant difference between groups (p < 0.001). The highest SBS values were measured in group III ($10.73{\pm}0.96$ MPa). The SBS values for teeth in groups I and II were significantly lower than that of group III (p < 0.001). The lowest SBS values were observed in group I teeth ($4.17{\pm}1.11$ MPa) (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Contamination of tooth surfaces with either blood or hemostatic agent significantly decreased the SBS of orthodontic buttons. When the contamination risk is high, it is recommended to use the blood stopper agent when bonding orthodontic buttons on impacted teeth.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the degree of marginal leakage that is made by wet bonding to dentin and dissolution of dentinal collagen layer in vivo and in vitro. Class V cavities were prepared to 32 cat's canine teeth and they were randomly assigned into the following 4 groups : Group 1 (not acid conditioned) ; Group 2 (acid-conditioned and blot-dried) ; Group 3 (acid-conditioned and air-dried for 30 seconds) ; Group 4 (acid-conditioned and retreated with 10% NaOCl solution). The acetone-based primer and bonding agent of All Bond 2(Bisco Inc., U.S.A.) and composite resin(Z-100, 3M. Dent. Prod., U.S.A.) were then applied. The resin collar and cap attached to each specimen and 50% silver nitrate solution was placed inside the resin cap for 3 hours. After the canine tooth was resected in level of cervical third, specimens were highly polished and observed the degree of the dye penetration on incisal and gingival margins. The results were as follows ; 1. There was no significant difference of marginal leakage in all the groups between in vivo and in vitro. 2. In vivo, the degree of leakage on the gingival margin showed the lowerest in group 4 and followed by group 2, 3 and group 1 with ascending order. However, there was no statistical difference among all the groups(p>0.05). 3. In vitro, the degree of leakage on the gingival margin showed the lowerest in group 2 and followed by group 4, 3 and group 1 with ascending order. However, there was no significant difference among the experimental groups(p>0.05). 4. The marginal leakage of the incisal margin in vitro was significantly higher in group 1 than the remaining groups(p<0.05).
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate shear bond strength (SBS) and failure site location of brackets bonded to enamel with or without desensitizer application. Methods: Sixty-six freshly extracted human premolar teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups of 22. Group 1 served as the control. Desensitizer was applied to the remaining teeth at two time intervals (Group 2, bonded immediately after Pro-$Relief^{TM}$ (Colgate-Palmolive Co., New York, NY, USA) application and Group 3, bonded 30 days after Pro-$Relief^{TM}$ application with the teeth stored in artificial saliva during the 30 days). Orthodontic brackets were bonded with a light cure composite resin and cured with a halogen light. After bonding, the SBS of the brackets was tested using a universal testing device. Adhesive remnant index (ARI) scores were determined after the brackets failed. Data were analyzed with analysis of variance, Tukey's HSD, and G tests. Results: The SBS was significantly lower in Group 2 than in Groups 1 (p = 0.024) and 3 (p = 0.017). Groups 1 and Group 3 did not differ (p = 0.991). ARI scores did not differ significantly among groups. Conclusions: The Pro-$Relief^{TM}$ desensitizer agent applied immediately before bonding significantly reduces bond strength, but the SBS values still exceed the minimum 5.9 - 7.8 MPa required for adequate clinical performance. Immersing the teeth in artificial saliva for 30 days after applying the Pro-$Relief^{TM}$ desensitizer agent and before bonding increased the SBS to control levels.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was aimed to compare the shear bond strength on dentin of three dentin bonding agents and two resin cements used in conjunction with self-cured composite resin core material. Material and method : Control group and six experimental groups were divided for this study. Control group was designated as specimens bonded with Tenure$ A&B^{(R)}$. Experimental groups were as follows : PB-BL group : specimens bonded with Prime&Bond $NT^{(R)}$, $BondLink^{(R)}$ SB-BL group : specimens bonded with $^{(R)}$, BondLink$SingleBond^{(R)}$ PB group : specimens bonded with Prime&Bond $NT^{(R)}$ SB group : specimens bonded with $SingleBond^{(R)}$ PF group : specimens bonded with $Panavia-F^{(R)}$ BI group specimens bonded with Bistite $II^{(R)}$ All specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours, followed by the shear bond strength was tested by universal testing machine. The data was analysed statistically by Mann-Whitney test. Results : 1. For Prime&Bond $NT^{(R)}$ and $SingleBonde^{(R)}$, the shear bond strength was 0.24 MPa and 7.19 MPa each by each, while Tenure $A&B^{(R)}$ group control was measured at 13.93 MPa (p<0.05). Especially for Prime&Bond $NT^{(R)}$ it did not get conjunction with dentin. 2. For Prime&Bond $NT^{(R)}$ and $SingleBond^{(R)}$ using $BondLink^{(R)}$, there was no significant difference as a result of 11.73 MPa and 14.00 MPa each by each (p<0.05). 3. For $Panavia-F^{(R)}$ and Bistite $II^{(R)}$, they showed the highest shear bond strength as measured by 18.24 MPa and 16.09 MPa each (p<0.05).
PURPOSE. To compare the push-out bond strength of feldspar and zirconia-based ceramic inlays bonded to dentin with different resin cements following simulated aging. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Occlusal cavities in 80 extracted molars were restored in 2 groups (n=40) with CAD/CAM feldspar (Vitablocs Trilux forte) (FP) and zirconia-based (Ceramill Zi) (ZR) ceramic inlays. The fabricated inlays were luted in 2 subgroups (n=20) with either etch-and-bond (RelyX Ultimate Clicker) (EB) or self-adhesive (RelyX Unicem Aplicap) (SA) resin cement. Ten inlays in each subgroup were subjected to 3,500 thermal cycles and 24,000 loading cycles, while the other 10 served as control. Horizontal 3 mm thick specimens were cut out of the restored teeth for push out bond strength testing. Bond strength data were statistically analyzed using 1-way ANOVA and Tukey's comparisons at ${\alpha}=.05$. The mode of ceramic-cement-dentin bond failure for each specimen was also assessed. RESULTS. No statistically significant differences were noticed between FP and ZR bond strength to dentin in all subgroups (ANOVA, P=.05113). No differences were noticed between EB and SA (Tukey's, P>.05) bonded to either type of ceramics. Both adhesive and mixed modes of bond failure were dominant for non-aged inlays. Simulated aging had no significant effect on bond strength values (Tukey's, P>.05) of all ceramic-cement combinations although the adhesive mode of bond failure became more common (60-80%) in aged inlays. CONCLUSION. The suggested cement-ceramic combinations offer comparable bonding performance to dentin substrate either before or after simulated aging that seems to have no adverse effect on the achieved bond.
Objective: To assess the color stability and translucency of full cubic stabilized zirconia (FSZ) following orthodontic bonding with different surface treatments and coffee thermocycling (CTC). Methods: This in vitro study was conducted on 120 disc-shaped specimens of FSZ. Thirty specimens were selected as the control group and remained intact. The remaining specimens were randomly divided into three groups based on the type of surface treatment (n = 30): airborne particle abrasion (APA), silica-coating (CoJet), and carbon dioxide (CO2) laser. After metal bracket bonding in the test groups, debonding and polishing were performed. Subsequently, all specimens underwent CTC (10,000 cycles). Color parameters, color difference (ΔE00), and translucency parameter (TP) were measured three times at baseline (t0), after debonding and polishing (t1), and after CTC (t2). Data were statistically analyzed (α = 0.05). Results: Significant difference existed among the groups regarding ΔE00t0t2 (p < 0.001). The APA group showed minimum (ΔE00 = 1.15 ± 0.53) and the control group showed maximum (ΔE00 = 0.19 ± 0.02) color stability, with no significant difference between the laser and CoJet groups (p = 0.511). The four groups were significantly different regarding ΔTPt0t2 (p < 0.001). Maximal increases in TP were noted in the CoJet (1.00 ± 0.18) and APA (1.04 ± 0.38) groups while minimal increase was recorded in the control group (0.1 ± 0.02). Conclusions: Orthodontic treatment makes zirconia restorations susceptible to discoloration and increased translucency. Nonetheless, the recorded ΔE00 and ΔTP did not exceed the acceptability threshold.
Die-to-wafer (D2W) hybrid bonding in the multilayer semiconductor manufacturing process is one of wafer direct bonding, and various studies are being conducted around the world. A noteworthy point in the current die-to-wafer process is that a lot of voids occur on the bonding surface of the die during bonding. In this study, as a suggested method for removing voids generated during the D2W hybrid bonding process, a flexible mechanism for implementing convex for die bonding to be applied to the bond head is proposed. In addition, modeling of flexible mechanisms, analysis/design/control/evaluation of static/dynamics properties are performed. The proposed system was controlled by capacitive sensor (lion precision, CPL 290), piezo actuator (P-888,91), and dSpace. This flexure mechanism implemented a working range of 200 ㎛, resolution(3σ) of 7.276nm, Inposition(3σ) of 3.503nm, settling time(2%) of 500.133ms by applying a reverse bridge type mechanism and leaf spring guide, and at the same time realized a maximum step difference of 6 ㎛ between die edge and center. The results of this study are applied to the D2W hybrid bonding process and are expected to bring about an effect of increasing semiconductor yield through void removal. In addition, it is expected that it can be utilized as a system that meets the convex variable amount required for each device by adjusting the elongation amount of the piezo actuator coupled to the flexible mechanism in a precise unit.

A small size cartrideg for FET type electrolyte sensor is designed and faricated with much simplified process by using micromachining tenchiques such as silicon etching andglass bonding. Size of the whole cartideg is 2.4cm*2.5cm, and the dead volume of a micro flow-channel in the cartrideg is only 8.5.mu.l. The photosensitive polymer(THB 30) is used to define a micropool and to encapsulate the sensor surface for standardizationof electrolyte sensors. To miniaturize micro flow-channel conventional reference electrode(Ag/AgCl) a differential amplification is introduced using REFET and quasi reference electrode. Refet was fabricated using photosensitive polymer(OMR 83). The fabricated cartridge with built-in pH-ISFET showed good operational characteristics such as linearity and high sensitivity (55.4mV/pH) in a wide pH range(pH2-pH12).
A novel bumping process using solder bump maker is developed for the maskless low-volume solder on pad (SoP) technology of fine-pitch flip chip bonding. The process includes two main steps: one is the aggregation of powdered solder on the metal pads on a substrate via an increase in temperature, and the other is the reflow of the deposited powder to form a low-volume SoP. Since the surface tension that exists when the solder is below its melting point is the major driving force of the solder deposit, only a small quantity of powdered solder adjacent to the pads can join the aggregation process to obtain a uniform, low-volume SoP array on the substrate, regardless of the pad configurations. Through this process, an SoP array on an organic substrate with a pitch of $130{\mu}m$ is successfully formed.
L-alanine (LA, as an amino acid residue) pentamer model was used to investigate changes in the dihedral angle, intramolecular hydrogen bonding and formation energies during structural optimization. LA pentamers having four conformation types [𝛽: 𝜑/𝜓=t-/t+, 𝛼: 𝜑/𝜓=g-/g-, PPII: 𝜑/𝜓=g-/t+ and P-like: 𝜑/𝜓= g-/g+] were carried out by quantum chemical calculations (QCC) [B3LYP/6-31G(d,p)]. In LA, 𝛽, 𝛼, and P-like types did not change by optimization, having an intra-molecular hydrogen bond: NH⋯OC (H-bond), and PPII types in the absence of H-bond were transformed into P-like at the designated 𝜓 of 140°, and to 𝛽 at that of 160° or 175°. P-like and 𝛼 were about 0.5 kcal/mol/mu more stable than 𝛽. In order to understand the processes of the transformations, the changes of 𝜑/𝜓, distances of NH-OC (dNH/CO) and formation energies (𝜟E, kcal/mol/mu) were examined.
